Candlelight I'm sorry Himself was too unwell for either of you to enjoy your break, what a rotten shame xx
Scottishminnie Sorry things are so difficult there atm xx
Lainey I hope your knee is better behaved tomorrow! xx
I'm getting a new armchair onWwednesday so OH has decided he'll try using my current chair - I can't get comfy in the chair these days, but he's much taller than me so me reckons he may be better off in the chair than on the sofa. So he's moving stuff around and has actually got rid of some stuff :T0 -
Afternoon, had a trip to the city this morning and good old Wilkinsons made no quibble at all in changing a vacuum bag to store the summer quilts in that didn't seal properly, super service and a new bag, no hassle no argument. Did a trawl of all the £1 shops for paracetamol as HWK is on 4 doses a day and it's a real bind only being able to buy 2 boxes at a time, I understand why but when it's one box for two days of tablets it's just a faffle. Ne'mind I got the 2 or 3 boxes each would allow and came home with 11 boxes which will keep him going for weeks. HWK is boarding the loft and putting in extra insulation, it's gruelling work and he's beavering away, he's a good boy. The wood stove man came yesterday and we can have a stove in the fireplace and it doesn't have to be an in set one, we can have a free stander woohoo. Suggestions as to which model will be with tomorrow and then we go to the showroom to see it in situ and he thinks we'll have it installed, up and running before Christmas, how lovely that's going to be. Visited my lovely greengrocer again on the way back to the bus and got fresh and delicious things for very fair prices, the produce is always fresh due to the rapid turnover, it's a gem of a place. We've ordered the wall paper for the Pickles room, Zebra chose Sanderson Scion Mr.Fox on a blue background which is just lovely and will look super on one wall in their room so hopefully we'll get it up before he comes to stay at the end of the month. Going to have a nice easy afternoon and read a book for some of it xxx.0

Afternoon all,
Holiday washing all done, dried and put away, it's amazing how much we get through.
DGD looked after the house, and more importantly the cat, very well whilst we were away, although said cat seemed very pleased to see us.
I have told Himself that we need a couple of jobs doing in the house. We need a new sink unit top and taps in the kitchen and also some new flooring. I am going to give the plumber a ring tomorrow and ask him to pop in sometime, and then once done we will go and see about the flooring.
I am also going to buy some new curtains for the living room, I have never been happy with the ones we have, and because Himself feels the cold so much I want to be able to close them early in the evening during the winter. We have blinds anyway but I want curtains I am happy with. I am telling you this because he doesn't like change, but I have told him we have to be comfortable, and my life needs to be a little easier.
We are starting to stock up on store cupboard items in case we have bad weather during the winter. I know I can always do an online shop, but I also like to be prepared.
Sending my love to TA and her lovely Bob, such a dreadful time for them all, but it sounds as though the Hospice are really looking after them.
Also love to SM, I hope everything went well with Mum and I hope you will soon have some peace of mind.
Lyn those boys will just love their new room, I can see it will be a regular weekend event. We had our 3 almost every weekend and I loved it, they are now 25, 21 and 19 where does the time go and they are all, without exception, wonderful and thoughtful young people.
AOT, hello, how are you, give us a wave? x
Hello Polly how are you, busy?
Lainey I hope the knee is improving.
Take care all xx0 -
Good morning,
Dry here but slightly cool, definitely autumnal.
TA has posted to say they are all being looked after very well in the Hospice. Bob was a bit concerned that he might be asked to move because he has been there for 2 weeks, but a doctor has promised there is no way he will go unless he wants to go home. He doesn't and obviously TA needs to have the medical support which the Hospice has. (there are only 17 beds).
They are a little concerned about eldest granddaughter who insists on being with her grandad after school every day, she isn't taking the situation very well. The Hospice have arranged for her to have counselling with an experienced young persons counsellor and hopefully this will help her. TAs DD is with her all day (she has a sick note now) and DS is hoping to have a word with his employer (TA says he looks dreadful with the stress). Bob's brother visits every day, although Bob sleeps through most of the visits, but they are very close and his Brother becomes very upset. As you might imagine lots of tears shed by all the family.
TA knows are are holding them close to us on this long journey and sending them our love as always.
I know this is a journey many of us have experienced, and it never becomes easier. I know we have experienced it with Elona and her husband and Lainey with her Mum and many others we feel are virtual friends. I feel we know TA really well now and feel we just want to send her a big hug xx0 -
Definitely a big hug! it's so hard to have to watch someones life ebb slowly and gently away knowing that no one including yourself can do anything to stop it. It's a hard time to weather and little comfort to be found whilst it's happening but in the fullness of the event TA will find a comfort in her family and hopefully in us as we're detached from the emotions that will beset her and she can be cross, sad, anxious, fed up and any other emotion without feeling she has to hold back the way she will with family as they're suffering too. Blessings upon all of them, may angels hold them close and may God hold them dear through this journey to it's ending xxx.0

Lyn, beautifully said as usual, thank you xx0

Hello all,
Not a bad day here, weather wise, washing is having a blow outside, and we have done a small shop, I have cleaned out the sink unit in readiness for the plumber to have a look tomorrow, and we have both been decluttering.
Himself is a dreadful hoarder, but even he decided he had too many clothes, some of them many years old. I also am getting rid of a lot of stuff, so some to the charity shop and quite a lot up to the tip early Saturday morning. It is a liberating experience I find to be rid of clutter, I don't know if Himself looks upon it the same !!
No update from TA but sending them all our love and hugs and hopefully Bob is free of pain.
Lyn, I wouldn't mind at all if it was just the two of us at Christmas (is that selfish?), and your Christmas menu sounds delicious. When you think how many Christmas dinners we must have cooked over the years, and not just Christmas Day but Boxing Day as well.
Lainey I read that your knee is still giving you trouble, I suppose it will improve in it's own time, and you have obviously had the problem before so know how long it might take.
SM, how are things, are you back at work after your holiday, work sometimes takes your mind off other things going on in your life? Take care of yourself.
Have a good afternoon all xx0 -
We've just had our first day out up here and what a lovely day too, we went to Batsford Arboretum for a lovely amble under some magnificent and huge trees, a most delicious light lunch and a drive through some of the most spectacular countryside I've ever seen, views to savour! Now home tired but happy and having a much needed cuppa!
I bought myself a proper china pie dish this afternoon, I've always used enamel dishes/plates before but this is lovely, it's a Spode one with a picture of a Christmas Tree on it and it was £9.99p so a bargain and is nice and deep for lots of filling and can take just a one crust pastry top. I shall use it to make my Game Pie for Christmas day and remember this golden day we bought it on even if it's bitterly cold and raining on Christmas Day, can't be bad can it?0 -
Sounds to have been a lovely day Lyn, I expect the trees are turning now as well.
That is quite a popular design from Spode, I don't know whether you read the blog of Sue in Suffolk, her blog is called The cottage at the end of a Lane, and she has managed to find 2 or 3 things in either charity shops or car boot sales because they are rather expensive new. I think you would enjoy her blog Lyn she blogs Monday to Saturday about her life, her garden and her love of books.
Have a nice rest and a cup of tea now xx0 -
Oh yes I do, have read every day for years and through her loss of dear Colin. She's a strong lass and is doing a grand job of putting a new life into place, much to be admired. This one I found is brand new and from Home Sense which is the sister chain to TKMax, they sometimes have really good reductions on already reasonable prices in their RTC areas too.
I'm stealing one of Sue's ideas and looking for Autumn things to go on the mantlepiece and also Winter, Spring and Summer things, I love how it looks and changes with the seasons. Charity shops are the best sources for pretty little jugs and nic-naks so I'll be keeping a good eye out for things to buy. I find her book lists gel often with my tastes too so it's useful to see what she gets from the library and check out the authors in ours.
The trees were so colourful, some of the acers were blazing golden and orange and the climbers are a wonderful maroon festoon through lots of just 'turning' trees, it was so pretty I think we'll have a trip to Westonbirt in the near future as they have a whole acer area which is incredible at this time of year. Tea was nice thank you xxx.0
