  • Hello all,

It is a beautiful day here, and washing is out and having a good bloe.

I have sorted 2 drawers in my kitchen units. The cutlery drawer needed a good clean (how do crumbs drop in there?) and the second drawer where I put everything that doesn't have a home. Lots thrown away and drawer given a clean.

I hope Mr TA is feeling a little better today, hopefully the antibs are working and TA I hope you are managing to have a little rest now and again.

SM I hope you are both feeling a little better, and somehow managing to enjoy your break. It isn't as you would have wanted I know, but hopefully relaxing before coming back home.

It seems a lot of the threads are very quiet at the moment, it seems a little sad not to see the usual friendly names posting, but I expect everyone is making the most of the good weather.

    Have a good afternoon xx
  • We've been out looking at wood burners in showrooms this morning, we ran down to Cirencester and had a chat with the firm who installed Nells stove a few years back and we've booked an assessment for the 1st October. He'll tell us what type of stove he thinks will suit the house best and because of weight (we have an upstairs lounge) we may be limited to inset stoves and he's guide us through the right models on the market with the thermal output right for the size of space we have will be very useful. Hopefully we'll have a stove in and working before Christmas.

We had a run up to Ledbury yesterday, lovely little town we've had a couple of holidays in before and it's still the same, quiet and pretty it was lovely I got us a game pie in my favourite butchers there which will be delicious and we'll go for another one for Christmas Day if we're going to be on our own. I know Ruthie's in laws are going down to them but I don't know what arrangements Nell and James have but if we're only the two of us that will be nice too and we'll go for a nice long walk and have lunch quietly here, light the fire and snuggle down with a good book or two, the first time we'll have been just us but I find the idea of that really appealing.

HWK has gone fishing on the local lake, like a 5 year old going to the fair, he's wanted to go ever since we arrived and got his fishing permit from the council yesterday and announced after lunch that he was going fishing! brilliant stuff because he's worked his little socks off since we arrived and it's lovely he can take time out bless him, he's a good boy!
  • Good afternoon,

Lyn you have been out and about haven't you, I do hope your stove will be fitted by Christmas, how cosy you will be. Do you know, I wouldn't mind spending Christmas with just the 2 of us, but DD1 lives on her own and of course DGD1 lives with us so it is always 4. On Boxing Day the rest of the youngsters plus partners arrive. It is lovely that they want to spend time with us, and they are such good fun, but I am tired by the end of the day, very happy but tired.

DD1 is 50 on Sunday so we are all out for a lovely meal and then back to us for cake. We have to go shopping tomorrow for special balloons to surprise her and then tomorrow evening DGD1 and I will be making cakes. I don't suppose the birthday girl will have any because she is doing Slimming World and she won't want to spoil her weight loss which is now 2 stone 4 1/2 pounds in 11 weeks I think, and she looks so much better for it.

I hope the TAs are having a better day, I know the lovely nurse from the Hospice was going to visit, it is good to know TA has that support. If she needs to go shopping she has lots of assistance because, of course, someone has to sit with Mr TA. DSs GF took her last time whilst he sat with his Dad, and TA is very fond of her, and she managed to stock up on store cupboard essentials, and hopefully the odd bottle of wine!!.

Enjoy the rest of the day all xx
  • We've had a lovely day, I met DD1 in town and we've really just pootled about, done a little shopping, had lunch and enjoyed being together and then we had the Kate Adey talk this afternoon which was really interesting and has made me realise how lucky we are as women in 2018 to have the lives we have today and the degree of equality in a society that isn't as propriety driven as it was in the early 1900s. Kate Adey was a most entertaining speaker and wove her story well and could lift the mood with a few well chosen humorous words when the going got heavy, I'd go to hear her again, a good hour! Tired now but happy and planning an early night to put my sore feet up, we walked quite a long way today xxx.
  • Just popping in to thank you all for your kind words and to say I'm thinking of the TA's and what they are dealing with.

It seems hubby's family is at war , well his siblings at least, so although it's far from ideal I'm glad he is away from it right now. We will be returning home so will need to deal with the fallout then but at least I feel I can shelter him from some of it right now.
    NO FARMS = NO FOOD
  • Hi there,

Lyn you sound to have had a lovely day with Nell, you have only been there a week or more and have been out and about so much. This was obviously a very good move for you both, did HWK enjoy his fishing the other day, taking time out from the unpacking?

SM, I am afraid bereavement can bring the worst out in families. I think DHs Mum knew there might be trouble and that is why she insisted you go on your holiday. It seems such a pity at a time when family should be pulling together, that they are at war. Also what a problem for her Husband, he really doesn't need this, he needs support. I don't suppose you are looking forward to coming home. Hope your Mum is OK.

Have wished DD1 a happy 50th birthday, and we are all going out later for a meal. DGD1 and I have been busy making a selection of cakes for when they come back to the house, and she asked for either money or M&S vouchers because she is losing so much weight she wants to buy new clothes, so that is what we have all done for her, also an enormous balloon with 50 on it.

    Catch you all later xx

Hope you enjoy your family celebrations Candlelight.

So sorry to hear about the arguments following your MIL’s passing SM, grief can do funny things to people and they behave in strange ways. Thankfully you are well out of it and can protect your OH for the moment.

We are having a quiet day at home, it’s wonderfully mild here today with lots of sunshine so time in the garden and am afraid to say that the WM has been chugging away, what would my darling Dad have said, tsk :)

Love and thoughts are with the TA’s.
  • Yes he did enjoy the fishing Candlelight, the lake is in the middle of the town and very conveniently placed as it's right next to the bigger car park. A nice coffee out at the garden centre this morning and I found some long boot socks in their sale reduced to £2.50 a pair so I got a couple, love them in the winter when I wear boots as shorter socks just fall down and end up under my foot which is most uncomfortable. It was lovely spending most of yesterday with Nell, both of us miss the time we used to have just the two of us and when the opportunity to take that time comes we try to make the most of it. We are going to Ruthie one day in the week to walk up and meet the Zebra from school so we know where his classroom is as we're covering for a day in October and mum and dad have been invited to a wedding, I'm going to get that Oreo child to myself for a few hours, lovely!

SM hugs to you both, and then more hugs ad infinitum xxx.
  • Hello lovely people. I have just written an enormous post on the Daily so won't repeat myself on here too.

CANDLELIGHT I hope you had a lovely day with much cake yesterday. SCOTTISHMINNIE I am glad you have been away from all the family squabbles and enjoyed your time away from it all. I hope things have calmed down a bit when you get home. LYN your new life sounds lovely.

My life/time isn't my own these days so posting is a bit hit and miss. Take care all xx

  • TA hang in there love, life is sometimes so difficult but you do what you have to and seem to survive over the odds. My prayers are for you and Mr. TA and I'm thinking of you both, just remember when times are darkest that we are here for you, we can't be there physically to help which would be the best for you BUT in spirit we are beside you 24/7 and wishing you both the best that can be xxx.

Candlelight thank you so much for your beautiful card which arrived this morning, you are such a dear, bless you xxx.
