Oh yes Polly I'd forgotten this one, thank you for finding it again and bumping it up to the top page of the listings. It's lovely to hear from SM again but the detail of her post is distressing to say the very least and I hope she's OK now. This has always been a supportive and good natured little place top hang out with friends hasn't it? let's resurrect it and use it eh? xxx.3

The roads round us are finally passable again and we are going to be able to get out of the village for a change of scenery this morning. It's been flooded in all directions for the past week or so and although we've not been affected ourselves we've kept a close eye on the brook across the road some 20 yards from the house. The local council put in flood containment measures further up the valley last year in the form of a dug basin and earth bank with a bigger bore culvert to firstly hold back the water and secondly let it into the brook in a controlled way to drain and it seems to be working well. Although the brook has been running faster and higher than is usual it's not looked like coming out of its course which is a great relief.2

I was saddened to read SMs post last night Lyn and remembered how gentle this thread was. Good times and sad times and we were a supportive little group. I can never understand what makes anyone taunt others. Another much missed member of this thread no longer posts as you know after someone decided to drive her away. She was kind and always supportive and I wonder how she is.I know some people just treat trolling as something to ignore but another member on OS and my thread was online a few days ago raising the subject re PMs as she'd had distressing ones and was badly impacted in the past. There should be a choice to facilitate or turn them off.As I mentioned last night I only respond to those I know. I remember pming when you were worrying on your flight to Germany and you and others have helped me via PM. Everytime I look at my walls I think of the friend hounded from here who didn't post again but pmd me when I'd posted about searching for the right pale grey paint and was spot on.People can change email addresses and user names so bans don't stop them. A clear on of off is something that should be available.I hope SM will come back at some point. She started this thread as a gentler way after some trolling on the tougher threads in the past and it's ironic and sad she has been trolled herself.pollyxIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.

I suppose nothing is 'writ in stone' these days and there are bound to be changes to things that sometimes are good and sometimes not so good. It's sad that so few people who used to be the 'leavening' have either not been able to make the transition to these new format pages or have chosen not to be here because it's not to their taste. I understand about the visual impact, that very bright first trial was most uncomfortable to use and gave me migraines because f the sheer brightness of the colours against the stark white background. These new forum pages don't hurt my eyes in the same way and so far I've (with a little help from my friends) been able to access mse from day 1 and have managed (again with a bit of help from my friends) to navigate them to where I want to be so I really haven't had too many glitches. It's sad though that so many of the old names and personalities are gone, whatever the reasons behind their disappearance.2

Morning, very windy out there today but not raining which has to be good. Windows are rattling in a most interesting way and the trees I can see are bending almost double! I am a bit fed up with wild and stormy and am really looking forward to some gentler and hopefully slightly warmer weather in the not too distant future. We're going for our usual Sunday coffee at one of the garden centres which will be nice and then nothing planned for the rest of the day except some rugby to watch this afternoon. HWK managed to get on to the allotment yesterday afternoon and got me some leeks and carrots and brought the news that the rhubarb is all sprouting nicely and will be ready to pull in a few weeks time, really looking forward to some home growns for the vitamins so I am making carrot and bacon soup for our lunch today and will pop some leeks into it for an extra boost. I did see some new green leaves in the hedgerows as we drove yesterday so a sign of changes to come maybe?2

This has long been one of my favourite threads to read - such a cosy and comforting feel to it. So sad that some posters have had distressing times and have left. It feels like a lot of timeless wisdom has been lost. x3

Some of us are still here lovey, Polly bumped the thread because it's always been friendly and is a little haven from the online sniping that sometimes goes on. Lovely to see you post xxx.3
