  • It's not something that's going to go away Ivyleaf, he relapsed within a month of their wedding 5 years ago and was told after treatment that nothing more could be done so he's fought well for all these years and is currently still stable but there are changes and deterioration so we think he should be their priority for everyones sakes, thankfully so do they bless them xxx.
  • Evening all.

Glad to "see" you back Candlelight and I'm glad the news is better than expected.

I'm sorry about DD2's FIL Lyn. It's absolutely the right thing to do but so many mixed emotions for everyone. hubby has a friend with stage 4 prostate cancer whom I saw today and I was so shocked at his deterioration. His first grandchild is due in March and all I could think was I so hope that he is able to spend some time with the baby as his daughter has gone through so much to get to this stage it would be unthinkable that her dad may not be around to welcome the new arrival.

Mum is due back at the hospital this week so we will see what that brings. Father, in the meantime though, had a bit of a fall from some machinery and now has broken ribs. Not a lot which can be done to heal them faster other than him resting. As you can imagine that isn't really happening although hubby is doing his best to tackle things before dad gets to them. We are due to go away on 27th so I hope he is a good bit better by then as I would feel dreadful being away knowing he was struggling.

I also put the tree up yesterday and the outdoor lights (just round a huge conifer) today. I will have to take them down on Boxing Day and although it still feels early it has been so dismal here that I felt we all needed cheering up.

I'm almost done for Christmas, just waiting on a few deliveries and that will be it. I do need to do a Costco shop next weekend. I've been putting it off as it's the biggie where I need toilet rolls, kitchen rolls etc, etc.

  • SM so sorry to hear about your Dad's accident, hope he's got some decent pain relief, ribs are so sore! Hope also that all is OK with mums hospital appointment this week and the worry for you all can lessen somewhat.

We too have put up the trees early this year and the outside lights went up yesterday. Not only the wet and gloomy weather needs keeping at bay but the unsettledness of life in general, the political and civil unhappiness and the sense of 'not knowing' the future is energy and peace of mind sapping in the extreme, leaving you in 'greyland' and not letting you plan ahead for many things. I for one shall be glad of family around this Christmas and diversion from the uncertainty that seems to have been 2018. I hope you can manage to get away on the 27th, try not to crock yourselves up before you go through doing too much of other things in life as well as your day to day stuff too xxx.
  • We've had a day of freezing rain and ice up here and now a good inch of the white stuff. I can see my 8am gym class being a challenge to get to! Hope everyone is staying safe and warm.

Will be back tomorrow to update more but off to bed early tonight as I'm yawning my head off.

  • So much for coming back on Sunday:o it's been a very busy week, I'm still working and today doesn't look any less manic so far. I have a weekend of family afternoon tea outing and then a serious hair colouring and cut so there won't be much spare time.

Still have the 3 cakes to marzipan and ice and some small gifts to deliver so having a quick cuppa now then will knuckle down to the paid work in the hope that I can finish around 4 and tackle some of the to do list.

I hope everyone is well and busy enjoying festive activities.

  • Hello all, happy Christmas to you all, I hope everything is almost done and you can sit back and enjoy.

SM do you know when your Mum's treatment is starting and how is she? Hopefully healing well.

Lyn, thank you for your lovely card and I hope your weekend with the family is filled with happiness and laughter.

Lainey are you OK, haven't seen many posts from you recently, I hope all is well with you and Lu.

Polly I know you are on the road to recovery after such a long time, take care,no more bugs this winter.

Ivyleaf, my sister is having her first cataract op onChristmas Eve. I assume someone must have cancelled because of Christmas, so I said to her what a lovely Christmas present to take her eye shield off Christmas morning and be able to see. I think you have had both eyes done now, haven't you, my other eye isn't ready yet.

I have all my shopping in now so I won't go near a shop until the new year, thank goodness unless I run out of something vital.

My physio thinks I have an inflamed tendon in my thigh, and the exercises she has gven me to do are certainly working. I have much less pain now thank goodness and I don't need to see her until the middle of January as long as I do the exercises.

The weather today is bright and mild although we had constant rain during the night. Some of the days this last week have been so grey and cold I have put the fairy lights on early just to brightrn the place up

I am sitting watching Christmas on Chestnut Street, Himself is asleep on the sofa, the cat is asleep in her chair, DGD has just gone out so it is very quiet here.

AOT if you are reading I hope you are reasonably well and looking after yourself.

I think that is all my news. May I wish everyone who reads this thread a Happy Christmas and a peaceful and healthy new year.

    Much love xx
  • Up to my eyebrows in family and Oreo is having a sleep in his cot downstairs. Boys and dads were given their Stunt Kites before lunch and took them to the playing field but there wasn't enough wind to get them up so hopefully we may get them flying tomorrow if it isn't too wet. They had their Christmas tree presents after lunch and I'd got the older ones foam rockets with a hand propelled launcher, such fun! The 5 year olds are currently at the theatre with Ru and Nell to see The Velveteen Rabbit which is such a lovely story, supper when they come back will be macaroni cheese and garlic bread followed by mini magnum ice creams and we'll eat later when they're asleep. Board and card games to follow we have cranium, Ticket to Ride and will play Newmarket which is a good card game if you're competitive, should be fun. Breakfast tomorrow will be followed by stockings and hopefully a walk Lamb Tagine for lunch and then Christmas presents after that. They will all go their separate ways mid afternoon having, I hope, had a nice family weekend.

Christmas blessings on you all, may you find cheer and peace in your lives and enjoy nice food by your hearths xxx.

Still here and reading along Candlelight, have just lost my posting mojo a bit and trying to limit the time spent online. Lu is a little treasure although managed to lose one of her shoes in the field the other day, luckily I found it and my lovely farrier managed to squeeze her in for a speedy re-shoe yesterday. Her summer coat has grey dapples in it but her winter coat comes through completely white, that’s very unusual for such a young horse.
Glad to read that the exercises are helping with your sore thigh, long may it continue x
  • Hello all,

A beautiful day here, gorgeous blue sky and quite mild.

We popped out first thing, I thought perhaps I didn't have enough potatoes for roasting, so bought those, a newspaper, treats for the cat and then went for coffee in M&S. Everywhere was festive but not manic. Called in at Next for gift cards for the grown up grandchildren. They are all having money and 2 presents, but I thought I would buy them something else as well.

Waiting to hear from my Sister who had a cataract op this morning, hope everything went well.

I have made a cheese, potato and onion pie for this evening, which we will have with grilled bacon and tomatoes, so nice and simple before all the rich foods tomorrow.

Downstairs has been hoovered through, courtesy of Himself, and I just have to give the bathroom a wipe and I think we are ready. Just chilling out now, Himself and the cat are asleep, DGD has just come home from shopping, and I was watching the best Christmas Carol (in my opinion) with George C Scott and the lovely Edward Woodward.

Whatever you are doing this Christmas I hope it is how you want it to be, quiet or busy, and definitely healthy.

Happy Christmas to you all and thank you for being such good friends.

    xx
  • Merry Christmas friends (well nearly Christmas). Having a quick break while dinner cooks then it's back to the preparations for tomorrow as I'm hosting dinner.

Mum has her treatment start date -16th January. It's good there is now a clear plan, date isn't ideal as I am only due to arrive home that day however I suspect my aunt will accompany her and there have been plenty willing volunteers. She keeps telling me it's only one day I'm missing for and I've been with her for everything else so it's no problem but I can't help but feel guilty. She's had a bit of a tiff with my younger sister and things are strained so maybe I'm over compensating:o

I've made a chilled cranberry souffl! for dessert tomorrow - resisting the temptation to open the fridge and see if it is rising. If it doesn't I'll call it cranberry mousse!

The plan for the rest of the evening is to assemble the dinnerware, clean grannie's silver cutlery and make sure I know what serving dishes I will be using. I also need to dig out the electric plate warmer. I bought it on a whim as there never seemed to be enough room in the oven to warm plates and the dishwasher always had other things in so I couldn't run a cycle just to warm them either. My mother scoffed at it however I can honestly say it has been well used!

Perhaps once all is done I can have a mulled wine and a mince pie - I live in hope!
