It's been a beautiful day again here, HWK went fishing and had a good time managing to catch 5 or so respectable weight fish and quite a few tiddlers too. I had a good productive morning in the charity shop and managed to halve the ironing pile there and get it priced up and out into the shop and we were so busy, I feel they may have had decent takings this morning. He is just beginning the replacement of our back garden fence and has one panel in place already and it's so much smarter than the old and rickety fence we inherited when we got here last year, the new panels are sturdy and should last us quite a few years. I've just poached some salmon for supper which we'll have with new potatoes cooked with some mint from the garden, a nice crispy salad and some herb mayonnaise that I'll make with fresh mint, thyme and fennel also from the garden, just the right food for this weather. Then I think an early night is in order, I've picked up a cough from one of the Grandpickles and was awake for much of last night being very tickly indeed. Hope you've all had a lovely day and this gorgeous weather xxx.1

Sounds like you’ve had a busy old day Lyn, hope that tricky old cough stays away and you get a better night’s sleep.
We are having a one roasting tin tray bake with chicken thighs, nice and easy as the oven does all the work and not much in the way of washing up1 -
An busy day today too, early bus to meet little Flora who is a sweetie and so friendly and outgoing, looking forward to next weeks sitting very much. Met DD1 for lunch and sat outside under shade to eat which was very comfortable, met HWK who had to come into the city for himself and we went to Lidl and got most of what's needed for the rest of the week and brought it home in the car and then had a trip to the garden centre where they have a sale and bought an Arbour Seat with storage to go into the back garden, lovely. When it cools down we'll put in another fence panel to replace one old ones and I'm planning an early night as I wake up with the light levels at 4 in the morning and it makes for an extremely long day.1

Another hot day today but not unbearably so and being in the shop this afternoon was cooler than I'd thought so not uncomfortable in any way. We had a good old sort out of clothing stocks and put out loads of things that had been on the rails in the stock room for quite a long time, sold masses of them too so all is now much tidier and orderly so we can see what's there. Hopefully I'll be able to find the bottom of my ironing box tomorrow morning while I'm there and clear that too. We got the Zebra childs first school report today and to say I'm a proud Oma is understating the case, he's flying and loving his school and developing as a person and inspiring the class apparently, what's not to like? I'm going to make us a sausage tray bake for supper tonight so I only have to use the oven, it's too hot to cook on the hob isn't it?1

It’s been very hot here and after a disjointed night’s sleep due to a poorly pooch I really haven’t done much at all. Lu had a groom and a fuss in her field this morning, I did hoover and steam clean the floors downstairs after lunch and then went to lay on the bed whilst they dried, I read a couple of chapters of my book but that was the last I remembered before waking up nearly an hour later, must have needed it.
Tea was oven baked fish & chips and there is a choc ice in the freezer with my name on it x1 -
Much cooler today and with overcast cloud so people are in much better moods because we're all more comfortable. A good productive morning at the charity shop, I houseworked before I went and left all clean and tidy so the rest of the day is mine and I can relax. HWK has brought home a bag of treasures from the allotment so we shall have lots of nice fresh things over the next couple of days, I love it when the produce starts to be ready to harvest, freshness and succulence in every mouthful.1

Today has given lots of small but enjoyable pleasures, we found a new garden centre for coffee, in the sale there I got some lovely fuchsias for £1 each for the garden, our sunflower has opened its flower here in the garden and is attracting the bees, beautiful buzzards soaring on the thermals over the road as we drove home, scrambled eggs with diced avocado on toast for lunch, the smell of roses and honeysuckle in the warmth of the day accompanied by the scent from the masses of blossom on my Kumquat tree who usually lives in the conservatory but is on the steps outside in this warm weather and obviously loving it. HWK is re-felting the shed roof and I am up to date with the house and all things related. This is, I feel, a good state of affairs and I may take myself off for a walk around the lake and see how the teenage moorhens and ducklings are progressing, I shall also admire the massive water lily pad which is covered in yellow flowers and quite exquisitely beautiful xxx.1

We’ve had a lovely at home day with lots of time spent in the garden, a roast pork dinner and then a very, chilled relaxed afternoon when I’ve finished my book ( Lethal White by R Galbraith, very good ) and Capt S watched some of the Tour de France. We have a busy old week coming up with theatre trips and days out at the races so it’s good to make sure the old batteries are topped up enough to enjoy1

A mostly lovely day today with a visit to Westonbirt Arboretum which was gorgeous, wild flower meadows, loads of butterflies, loads of friendly doggies to talk to, nice food for lunch and lovely countryside to drive through there and back. Home for a cup of tea and to watch some tennis on TV and I got bored so decided to water the garden and found all along the outside steps the residue from a huge colony of ants who had 'dug out' to let the flyers out to fly, it was horrible. We checked in the kitchen on the other side of the door and a couple of flying ants were milling on the floor so we ant powdered everything in sight. Lifted patio paving stones and found Antopolis underneath! so we filled all the exit holes we could find with ant powder, the sparrows who live in the hedge came and were eating ants like there was no tomorrow, nothing else in the kitchen and all activity stopped outside now, I just hope it stays that way. I am still itching!!!1

I was reminded of this thread by a post from SM elsewhere on OS. This was always a nice friendly place to be and I'm wondering if in quite uncertain times it's worth starting it up again?Hope you will find your way back one day SM. You were the OP and among many things you taught me to make Clootie Dumpling in a microwave.Thoughts as always with dear Candlelight and family. I see many other regulars on other threads but this was a thread that was easier to keep up with.pollyxIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.
There but for fortune go you and I.3
