I'm so sorry to read this SM . It's good you had the appt today as at least they're on the case . It looks as though life is going to get even more full on but hopefully to a good outcome . My late husband was closer to my mum than his own too so can understand how your husband feels . It looks as though you're the one at the sharp end so try to take care of your own wellbeing whenever possible .
    Love to you all

Crossposted Candlelight . Are things any better now ? I was thinking earlier what a good idea it was when you bought the soup maker and it does seem to have helped a lot . I'm trying to come up with some advice for a poster on another thread today . I've been doing a lot of online research part of which led me to look at Iceland ( the shop )
I haven't been in there for years but noticed they have pre prepped frozen veg at a good price and with free next day delivery for orders over £35 . She's struggling with the budget and running the house due to MS and mentioned delivery charges on orders so I'm wondering if changing to there may help .
I'm trying to think to back when I found myself trying to bring up 4 children on a very tight budget .
Looking at my previous post the punctuation fairy seems to have left the building and I notice at least one typo . Hey ho .
Take care and I hope you both sleep well .

  • Hi Polly,

I haven't been to Iceland in years either, but I do love my soup maker. Yesterday we had leek and potato again, a favourite of Himself, a large bowl with either a soft roll or a couple of cheese biscuits and that is enough for us. He always has to have a cake or something for dessert. There is no end to the variety you can make and it is certainly cheaper than tinned and far more pleasing

I am not very well at all Polly, to be honest I think I have polymyalgia rheumatica, just like my Mum had. I can't walk, only shuffle and there isn't a part of my body that doesn't hurt. I will phone tomorrow to make another appointment with the GP. The new tabs he gave me for the diabetes are working well, I just have to make sure the blood sugar doesn't go too low, but this pain is getting me down. I have had it off and on for about 4 months now, but hadn't had it in my back and I thought that pain was coming from my kidney. I am not so sure now. If it is I know it will mean steroids, which will then affect the diabetes again. Hey ho.

    Sleep tight xx

Sorry to read that your DM faces another op SM hopefully they will catch all the cells this time and path the way for her to then have the radiotherapy she needs.

Aw hugs Candlelight must be horrible to be in such pain :( I do so hope that a visit to your GP can throw up some help medication wise, sleep well m’dear x
  • Gentle hugs, much love and healing thoughts to each of you and your loved ones, take care of yourselves and sleep well tonight xxx.
  • Candlelight I have no words really . That's a difficult condition and as you probably know can be genetic . I know it's utterly pointless railing at the fates but at times it seems so unfair that the loveliest , kindest souls have not one but more burdens in life than many who waste their life sniping and snarling .

Not helpful I know . Knowing you I imagine you will carry on through whatever comes as you've always done bravely . Hold in your heart that we are with you in spirit and friendship always whatever comes . You were so missed and are very loved but don't feel you have to post if you aren't up to it . Just give us a wave every now and then so we know you're ok .
    Much love to you both

  • Good morning I've just rescued us from page 2 . I woke up far too early this morning and couldn't get back to sleep . I was up before the milkman and he comes very early .It was bright earlier with sun and blue sky but the grey clouds are rolling in and it's another cold day . I was checking something in the diary and realised the clocks go back next week . This year seems to have flown by .
I hope you managed to get an appt with the doctor Candlelight .as you'll know by your mum there are quite a number of tests to check if it's Polymyalgia as lots of things can present in a similar way . Our GP is forever having to mess around with the meds for a while when he needs to temporarily introduce one which can't be taken alongside an existing one . I hope it will turn out to be something simpler as being prescribed Prednisolone will mess with others as you say .

You've got me thinking about soups . Earlier I wrote a note and put it where I can see it to remind me to ask the next person to come here to fetch my very heavy Kenwood chef from the upstairs cupboard . I have a small processor but it is a long process dicing and slicing various veg . The chef handles large amounts in minutes . We've been cheating with Marks fresh soups for ease as they're ready to serve quickly when it's been a long day . I'm now craving Gary Rhodes Vegetarian Scotch Broth which is very filling and probably our favourite soup with a couple of oaty rolls .

Hoping your mum and dad are ok SM .

Have a good day all .

  • Oh Candlelight- that's just absolute rubbish. I hope you get an appointment very quickly and the meds can be found that don't interfere with the other drugs.

I had an afternoon off so I made a trip to the butchers, picked up some stuff for father in law and dropped in to see him, all on my own.
I haven't set foot in the house for more than 20 years as the daughters were constantly there and they couldn't even be civil. He was alone and we spent a good two hours together before the normal daughter arrived. It seems that other than hubby and this one sister the other offspring have only visited once each in the three weeks since MILs funeral. I'm speechless, they all live within 3 miles of him so absolutely no excuse.
Hubby was a bit stunned I'd gone alone but I think secretly he's pleased. Whilst MIL would side with her daughters I'm pretty confident FIL will take no nonsense so I feel I can drop in from time to time on my own.

Mum is a bit more chirpy today - my cousin visited with her new Westie puppy which was a great distraction for a while.

I'm hoping for a bit of gardening tomorrow but the weather is currently wet and windy despite the BBC weather trumpeting dry and sunny so who knows what tomorrow will bring!

Families can be so strange SM good for you for checking on your FIL as you say you will feel comfortable dropping in from time to time . It beggers belief that the others are leaving him to get on with things .

Glad your mum is a bit chirpier now . You sound like the duracell bunny popping here and there . Just get some rest when you can . If we can believe the forecast it should be warmer , brighter and sunnier here tomorrow so I hope you get some decent gardening weather north of the border to get out side and clear your head outdoors .
Wishing all a restful night and some good weather tomorrow .

  • Morning, just back from Pickle sitting overnight and they were so good for us, both in bed and fast asleep by 7.30 and didn't wake until 7 this morning! not a harsh word between them and just a joy to be with. Mum and Dad had been to a wedding and got back in the wee small hours and had a lovely time so well worth the sitting on top of the boys being so good for us!

Very chilly in the house when we got back so the heating is on to take the chill off and I'm going to do some cooking in the kitchen which will warm that 'big' space up too. Cake will be made!!!
