Those blackbirds sound like real characters Polly and clearly have you wrapped around their little claws it would seem :) We are the only residential house for a good half a mile around and, with only a mad spaniel to cope with, the birds have a real sanctuary within our garden. Numerous feeders hanging from the apple tree, several different water sources and a large expanse of hedge & shrubs to chose from for nests, not to mention the generations of swifts and sparrows that have made their home in the eaves of the cottage roof. My lovely man moved the millstone water feature closer to the kitchen window so that I can watch all the different birds come down for a bath, the funniest are the big old pigeons who fuss and fluff around on the top stone.

Sounds a perfect spot to sit and enjoy a cuppa Lyn, we are also guilty of staying inside at the moment, curtains closed and fan on. Mind I need to stir my stumps soon to go and see Lu, will time the visit so that I can bring her in from the paddock and give her a nice cool hosing down.

Spoke to my DSIL but she had had a very rough night and still didn’t feel up to visitors, am very worried about her have to say :( think I will give my niece a call later and have a chat.

SM, after saying that my clothes have been severely culled lately I have just ordered a new dress. In my defence your honour I have been stalking it for a good few months, sighing over its prettiness but refusing to pay full price. It’s now been reduced by 50% and still have my size :j would be rude not to.
  • Good morning all,

We have been to the supermarket for the shop, home now all put away before everything becomes an effort.

All blinds and curtains closed at the back of the house. Polly, the sun is on the back all day virtually, moves around about 4.p.m. We have 2 parasols on the patio with the chairs and table, but it still gets too hot to sit for long. The best time is when I wake up about 6 and have my first coffee of the day, and then about 8 in the evening.

Our younger daughter is 46 today and I remember it was very hot that day as well (it was a Wednesday). I was induced at 8.a.m. and she still wasn't born until 6.33pm that evening.

I haven't seen a post from TA this morning, perhaps she is managing to have a rest if she had a disturbed night.

Lainey I hope SIL is feeling a little better today. I know the anaesthetic knocks me about something dreadful and seems to be in my system for several days. The sooner she hears what treatment she needs the better, she must be thinking all kinds of things until she actually knows.

Lyn exciting times ahead of you, and being so close to everyone. Also a new home and garden to put your stamp on. I am so pleased our DGC lived so close during their growing up, and of course we have one living with us. Like you I think we have played a large part in their young lives, and even now the other 2 still want to come and see us, and they always kiss me when they arrive. We must have done something right.

Do you know I haven't cooked a proper meal for weeks. Neither of us feel hungry, so very often it is salad or cheese and biscuits. I make sure we have plenty of protein but we don't seem to need bulk these days, so have lots of fresh fruit.

Have a good afternoon, may be back later xx
  • We are officially SCORCHIO down here this afternoon, it's 33 plus out there and not at all nice but it isn't too humid so that's something to be grateful for at least.
  • Good evening all,

I feel I am about to expire I am so hot. There is a bit of a breeze but it is warm, we are promised rain and thunderstorms tonight, but will it really materialise, I do hope so.

I am making sure we both constantly have cold drinks, and have a large jug of iced lemon water in the fridge which I keep refilling.

The cat is flaked out on the carpet and fit for nothing, mind you I think I would be if I had to walk round with a fur coat on all day.

TA, I hope you and MR TA are OK and just having a rest. take care of yourself.

Lainey did you manage to see your SIL today?

Hopefully we will all manage some sleep tonight

    Sleep tight xx
  • Hiya, we have the most magnificent sunset just beginning over the river, one of those burning molten copper coloured suns that turn everything the most glorious pink and purple, so pretty. We're still in the high 20s temperature wise, He Who Knows has taken his hot little self off for a pint at Cookies pub and I'm festering and slowly melting in the study! How lovely that you still have your lovely Granddaughter living with you both, that must be a continuing happiness. I must confess to looking forward greatly to seeing more of those two pickles when we've moved and via Nell and dear James (who is the lovliest man) I've now got two more Grandpickles one of 5 and 1 of 7 to play with. They don't know us well but we've met half a dozen times now and I like them both very well indeed, pickles in a different way to Ruthies two but endearing little characters both. It's going to be really nice having some family time with all of them particularly at Christmas ( shouldn't mention that on a day as hot as this one should I?) and I hope over the years to be their friend as much as anything else.

If it doesn't cool down soon tell the cat to move over, I'm coming to join her xxx.

Morning my lovelies, how are we all today?

We were woken up just before 4am by an enormous clap of thunder and then the heavens opened, I was so grateful to see rain after so long without was very tempted to run out in my pjs and do a dance. Luckily darling Capt S made me see sense and I made do with standing at the back door watching the lightening show. It felt a lot cooler first thing but is quickly hotting up again, have done a few chores in the house and now sitting with a cold drink catching up on all the news. Little dog has been in her paddling pool and is now drying off on a towel at my feet, thank goodness we have just floorboards and a rug that can be pulled back but even so there is a faint whiff of wet dog :rotfl:

We did get to see DSIL yesterday afternoon but she was a poorly old thing, they have had to tube her to try and get the rubbish out of her tum that is making her so sick, trouble is retching to be sick was hurting so much it just made matters worse. Her system is still in shock and not working at all. We stayed for an hour or so and I had a chat with her Mum who is obviously worried sick, we all just feel so helpless to do anything for her but pray she turns a corner soon.

How lovely that as well as the smashing James you have the added bonus of two new little grandpickles to play with Lyn, what a lovely addition to your family. Trying not to jump the gun but am hoping like mad that my two stepsons eventually meet someone special and have kids, I know I won’t be an official grandparent but like you hope to be their friend.

Hope TA is ok, haven’t seen her post for a couple of days?

Love to all and keep cool
  • Good afternoon all, thank goodness we had a removal firm round to assess this morning and they can do either of the dates we will hopefully all agree on for the move, we were getting a little bit worried as 29th August is almost fully booked with all the others who have been. This one seems sound enough and was recommended by the estate agency. Still our buyer hasn't signed the contract though, the rest of us had ours done and back weeks ago she's a ditherer I think. It will be good to get it all over now, meantime I'll keep on packing boxes! Stay sane in this heat and if you're lucky enough to get a thunderstorm.....enjoy it!

Mrs LW what is her issue with signing? Is it her delay or legal eagles delay? ;)

Hi Floss, a fortnight ago she flagged up two questions that the solicitor told her hadn't been answered by us, they were apparently sent in May! we didn't receive them by e.mail as they said so we didn't know. We sent the answers to our solicitor the same day as they were asked a fortnight ago and she sent the answers to our buyers solicitor the next morning just after 9. On checking both questions are answered in the 'Home Pack' which they've had since May! Her solicitor keeps telling her it isn't quite the time to sign yet and is a personal friend of hers apparently so who is at fault I don't know but they both appear to be ditherers and have no concept of a time frame. She set it in the first place by saying the latest she wanted to move was 14th September. We and the folks we're buying from have signed contracts and completed on everything else weeks ago so our buyer is the loose cog wheel, it will happen but when is up in the air!

LAINEY we just had a small thunderstorm and some RAIN!!! so I went into the garden for you and it was lovely! big splots and cold and refreshing. Sadly it's stopped now and is hot and humid but I'm pleased to report that rain is NOT a myth after all xxx.
  • Good morning all,,
We have had RAIN, not a lot, but enough to cool things down.

The sky is cloudy and we have a strong breeze, but it is so comfortable after weeks of searing heat.

We popped to the supermarket and M&S because I had ordered 2 short sleeve jumpers at a very reasonable price, so they are ready for autumn.

TA I am so sorry you have lots of carp going on, as if you don't have enough to cope with. If you lived closer I would willingly take you shopping, or if you wanted time to yourself would sit with Mr TA. I know you are worrying about the results of the scan he is having on Monday, and nothing we can say will make it any easier for you. We will be there with you in mind and spirit, and wishing and hoping it isn't what you think it is.

Himself is at the cardiac/renal clinic on Monday for his 6 monthly appointment. This clinic is held for patients with heart conditions, but whose kidneys have been affected by the medication for the heart problem. Now he isn't a good patient at the best of times and he will get himself worked up all morning before we go for the afternoon appointment. We are hoping that recent blood tests will show a slight improvement in kidney function, fingers crossed.

Lainey I hope SIL starts to show some improvement once all that muck has been taken out from her tummy, that poor girl she really is ging through the mill isn't she? Enjoy your ride with Lu today if you have this lovely breeze as well it will be lovely.

Polly, how are you, feeling any better?

Lyn, I know you have every faith your buyer will sign but my goodness she is taking her time, I just wonder why. Hopefully common sense will prevail because surely she must have moving arrangements to make and the like.

Love to you all, and a special hug for TA xx
