  • Lainey, she's scared and uncomfortable and wondering what her future holds, she is probably torn between wanting you all desperately and wanting to be alone with her thoughts to try to make sense of any of it. The anaesthetic can make some folks feel really groggy too so give her a little space and when she does feel up to seeing you all she'll enjoy the company all the more. Hugs to all of you xxx.

Thank you my lovely friends, your kind words are much appreciated xx
  • Because you're worth it xxx.
  • Morning lovely people. I feel rubbish yet again after a bad night, due to the heat and Mr TA having a sleepless night too. The patches are helping numb his discomfort better than the Oramorph but not working the wonders I had hoped for.

LAINEY I was so sorry to read your update on your DSIL. I feel for her (and all her family and friends too) whilst facing an unknown future she's bound to be feeling anxious and less than sociable.

Mr TA insisted I go with DD and the girls yesterday so I left him supplied with a nutrishake (late breakfast) and a mug of soup for lunch. They had been consumed but not one of the high cal shots unfortunately.

We all thoroughly enjoyed Mamma Mia 2 and definitely needed the pack of tissues in my bag. Despite that it was a lovely film and I thought Lily James was brilliant as young Donna. I had already admired her acting in Downton Abbey and War and Peace and thought that girl will go far!

Italian won the vote for lunch. Large white wine, dough balls and Polo Pesto. Nothing could have been nicer. Back home with youngest DGD (7) and her company seemed to perk Mr TA up. Middle DGD (9) will be joining us shortly as DD is working. Eldest (now 13 going on 21) is going on the train to Waterstones to spend some vouchers with her Godmother. I wish I had youngest's energy, she is currently cartwheeling round the house!

Have a good day if you can lovely people and take care!

A revelation of sorts happened this morning and as I was looking round the lounge drinking my first cuppa it occurred to me that with all the things normally perched on windowsills and furniture having been packed away the lounge looked so much less 'busy' and altogether more calm. I think that the charity shops will be getting substantial donations after we've moved and although I couldn't live in a minimalist style I'm going to be as uncluttered and clean lines as I can. It will make for a much more tranquil living environment. I wonder if having less by way of possessions make us feel happier? we'll see.

LAINEY I hope your dear SIL has had a better night and that she is feeling more comfortable today and more positive too, possibly up to that visit I know you all want to make xxx.

Thank you Lyn, she did text me last night to say hopefully normal service will be resumed today, bless her.
Re the possessions on your windowsills etc I think you are definitely on to something with the calmer environment thoughts. I do think that, at times, possessions can weigh us down and the less we have the lighter we feel. It’s something that I have recently applied to my wardrobe, I had been hanging on to a lot of stuff because they had cost money and it felt wasteful to let them go. Once my mindset changed and I let them go it was like a weight had been lifted from my shoulders, so much so that I now operate the 33 system for each season. It’s easy to dress in the morning and I love everything I wear! X

Over the last 7 or 8 years I've removed a lots of things from my home. Like MRsLW I'll never be minimalist however it's quite streamlined now and I don't miss al the "things" . I do however, have an attic bursting at the seams with lots of things that I feel I can't get rid of as they were wedding presents or they were expensive. I know it's ridiculous and they will have to go at some stage but my conscience won't let me do it now:(

Ive only moved house once in my married life - we sold and moved in with my parents for 5 months while we built our current house so I didn't have the real upheaval of removals like most people. We farmed out our belongings round family and they stored them for us until the house was ready. we won't be moving again unless it's to another part of the world completely.

Maybe I should start with the stashes of books and CDs in the attic- I'm not so sentimental about them!

TA - glad you enjoyed the movie. It does look like a feel good film.

Lainey - sending hugs to your SIL.

Candlelight- my bird bath is drying up so quickly even though it's quite deep. We have no hose pipe ban here so I have been running the sprinkler and the little birds run and fly through it and then they wallow in the tiniest puddles. It's so nice to watch them. They must be so itchy because of the dryness and heat.

Pollyanna - I saw a nice swishy skirt in the window of Hobbs yesterday - seems the Autumn ranges are arriving already!

This may appear as one or more posts . I had a Monna moment after writing what somehow evolved into a slightly condensed version of a large hardback . Pressed the button and off it went into the MSE ether never to be seen again . I walked away for a while .
Candlelight I wish we could send some nice cool air to you and himself . We were lucky with the cooler and at times wet days but the humidity is building again and depending which area of the country some are going to be for very hot weather .

Do you have a shaded area for brief sit outs in the garden ? Not too long but a small change of scene for you both .

Lainey I'm pleased your SIL got in touch . She's had a double whammy and it does take time to process and work through .
I am currently at the mercy of birds , the annual dopey blackbird fledgling who has a habit of falling either backwards or forwards off the fence and needing rescue . Add in the resident hedgehogs and thirsty butterflies and all creatures great and small and I have begun to view retirement as a myth .

I'm going to stop here less my pearls of wisdom ? disapppear and go and check for a dopey fledgling and fill water bowls etc yet again . Back shortly .

OK all wildlife fed and watered . No father blackbird hopping up and down screaming at me from the fence . Mother B seems to vacate the scene and probably seek respite from oh and offspring . I may have mentioned it in the past but these bbs have distinctive markings through the generations . They have cat friends and use their human as a combination of chef , nursemaid and first responder in times of crisis . They do bring joy however , many laughs and good memories .

TA The patches can be a bit up and down but we found they did help most of the time . Just keep a check on how it goes . I hope you both manage some sleep or even rest after the disturbed nights .

I'm glad your trip out went well and was enjoyed by all . A good weep during the film can not only be the plot but a safety valve for pent up emotion , worries and sheer exhaustion which you seem sorely in need of .
Oh for the days when I could turn endless cartwheels . That ship sailed long ago but I remember the boundless joy .

Lyn I like clear surfaces and do have some which I gaze on fondly . My sticking point is books and like SM clothes . I always have GQs signature about every new possession loads you with weariness but oh I struggle to get rid of those two things .

I have good classic clothes to see me out so am buying very few . Sadly books keep being written , I don't get on with Kindles etc so need to find a way to start reducing the book hoard .

SM I am now telling myself not to look at the Hobbs site . Thereby lies madness . I shouldn't have reminded you of the swishy skirt .
I'm sorry things have been difficult and wish you a calmer path from now on .
While you're still turning out the jam for others life seems fine .

Apologies if I've missed anyone . Brain is a bit puddled . The long post I lost earlier was on the Fence and I know they'll have moved on through all sorts by now .

    Take care all

  • I've just sat in the shade in the garden and had a cup of tea, I moved the garden furniture along the patio when I realised where the shade fell in the afternoons, this is what comes of having lived like troglodytes with the curtains drawn against the sun and heat for most of the day of late and it was lovely, nice little breeze and the perfume from the petunias in the window boxes and planters was beautiful, much enjoyed!
