Good to hear from you burtha. I'm glad the running is such a help and that your DD is getting help too now xx

ETA burtha I meant to say, I'm so sorry about your cat. It's horrible when they go missing, it happened to a couple of ours x
  • I woke up this morning thinking of Christmas cake! is it too early to start thinking and planning for the Christmas holidays? It made me happy but it might be a little early for some of us? I'm going to make a tentative menu plan as I think it's going to be the first time there will only be the two of us on Christmas day but we'll get family en masse the weekend before and for little Oreos second birthday on the 28th December which will be lovely. A day we plan for just the two of us might be very pleasant, specially if we've got the wood stove installed and can just curl up for the evening with a good book beside it. Thoughts anyone?

We have 3 adult children, We will be alone on Christmas Day, as they are spending time either with their partners or their partners families.

We have our main Christmas meal on Christmas Eve, which tends to be local beef, or goose with the whole tribe. We have done this for the past few years, works for us :)

Christmas Day, we get up late (for us), light breakfast and masses of fresh coffee, then pop to the local cemetery to place some flowers of DH's dads grave, then pop into his Mum to give her a gift and a bit of a catchup, she spend Christmas lunch with her eldest daughter, comes to us Boxing Day.

We then head to the pub, a quick drink with friends, then home for champagne and something indulgent for us, last year was gravadlax, rye bread, then fillet steak, dauphinoise potatoes and asparagus, with HM Panna Cotta for pud, then feet up in front of the TV, local cheese and HM crackers when needed and of course chocolate ;)

  • I'm thinking we'll have game pie for lunch with potato gratin and red cabbage casserole followed by a mincemeat, apple, almond and brandy crumble with custard. Breakfast I don't do and HWK usually has toast. Supper might be smoked salmon and cream cheese on rye bread, maybe mince pies, and a nice varied cheese board with cox's apples, grapes and fresh chutney along with the obligatory pickled onions for HWK. I'll cook a beef joint on Christmas eve to have as cold cuts on boxing day with jacket potatoes, salads and pickles and make a loaf Christmas cake to have afterwards. Sound OK?

    Sounds perfect Lyn.

I remember when I was with the Rev that all the organisations in all the churches had their own Christmas meals and we were invited to all of them. One year we had 11 turkey dinners in the 2 weeks before Christmas, a couple of times we had 2 on the same day.
On Christmas Day we had egg and chips.

Have trouble remembering how to fly.

The Vicar of Dibley springs to mind there monna!

Your menus sound wonderful. For the first time in many years I will have all 3 of my children here for Christmas. As you probably remember, DS1 didn't speak to us for 6 years so it's either been the 3 of us, plus assorted visitors/partners/neighbours or I've done my own thing. Last year I met my friend from Oz in Malaysia.

This year I seem to have the whole shebang, 2 children with their partners and the 3rd with his 2 children along with some friends (a family of 4) who have invited themselves and I'm so looking forward to it!

No idea what I'll be cooking but even if it's beans on toast I'll be blissfully happy!

We will visit my mother Christmas Day morning, apart from that we will be alone all Christmas.

In the past we've visited DS, DiL and DGS on Christmas Eve but after last year we won't go even if we are asked.

See you back about the time as me VJSmum. A good afternoon. Softstuff and Floss will still be drinking.

I think I will have a dilemma this Christmas it has been just DS and me for the last 8 years. Think I could be invited to DD's, would love to see DGS open his presents he's like a staffy and a springer spaniel rolled into one with just one present. DS only gets the two days off so he wont be able to travel. Think I may have to miss DGS.
