Morning all. Morning Kittie.
The forecast tells me that thunder storms are coming tonight. Islandmaid tells me that she actually saw some slinking past her side of the island and we've not had a sniff of anything yet.
Not sure if I will welcome thunderstorms as the last one destroyed the house less than 100 yards from me. They are still gutting it, it is so sad looking at the bare rafters etched against the sky.
What I will welcome is fresher temperatures. I will try to motivate myself to get a bit more done today. Without a date for moving I feel very lazy about packing up, but neither do I want a panic at the last minute. At least I should be sorting out.
Lyn, this end bit of moving house takes forever, doesn't it?
The worst bit is waiting for the money to go through on the day you move. When we moved Dad we were all packed up and waiting at 10.00am, by 4.00.pm Our buyers furniture was piled up on the lawn and we were filling the van we had hired, at 4.30 we were given the go ahead and had 90 minutes to get the furniture unloaded into his bungalow and the van returned to Bournemouth, where it had to be back by 6.00pm. I don't know what happened to those in the chain above us.
There has to be a better system.

It can't stay warm for you all that long, I'm due over in September so it should be snowing by then.
In all seriousness though, I wonder what it would cost for some of you to have ceiling fans installed? I had all new ones installed here in every room when we moved in and it wasn't even a full day job. At the flat we were at previously, we used mostly just those in summer. Indeed, in summer now here at the house, we don't run aircon, just a ceiling fan in the bedroom.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
I've wondered about ceiling fans Softstuff and, if I ever move back to Southern England, I will be on the hunt for modern ones and will fit them IF I can find some to suit me. "Hunt" being the operative word - as I've never seen any that fit my tastes yet - so am guessing I might still be waiting for ones to fit my style to go on sale in the first place. Last I could see - they weren't making them in my style yet.
But then I've lived abroad for a while when I was a child and can remember ceiling fans from then - so I was used to them as a good idea.
Maybe the one point where I'm an eternal optimist (as compared to my usual "cynical these days" self) is on Removal Day - ie both times I've moved (into 1st house and then into this house).
I had perforce allowed what is apparently deemed quite a long time by some people these days between Contracts Exchanged and Completion the first time. The second time (ie current house) where it was totally under my control - I had programmed in 4 weeks as well in between Exchange and Completion and shut ears to "Entitled Wailing" by FTB that was buying my first house off me when they wanted a shorter timespan.
So the first time I moved - I'd got possessions all inside removal van and I found my mother was in there as well - sitting in the front seat with the removal men:rotfl: and my fallback plan was "There are still single-glazed windows in the house and a brick nearby - and I know the vendors moved out some weeks ago".
The second time - my possessions were duly all packed up in the removal van halfway to Wales and myself in a friends car halfway to Wales when the "It's Completed" phonecall came through from my legal bod. Again - I knew the house was empty (probate house) - though, this time, no single-glazed windows and no brick. The fallback plan was nearby bed and breakfast (and make sure I kept the receipt) if I'd needed it - and the following day was still a weekday (I'd arranged for Completion/Removal Day to be Monday-Thursday just in case).
EDIT; Well...well...that prompted a quick google for a firm I've found recently that has some items in my taste and...hmmm....there are a few modern ones there and I just spotted one that looked a possibility for me at £89 each. It's https://www.wayfair.co.uk0 -
Morning all
No rain here, it was 34 yesterday and may be hotter today, I'm going to find galloping along the towpath and working the locks and bridges really difficult, still it's my own fault for being fat.
Yesterday was a bit of a pain, I'd tried to get some stuff done on Wedneday but traffic problems meant I couldn't, so it all had to be done Thursday. The day started with CHS deciding he wanted to get to work half an hour earlier then planned, so he was rushing around and chivvying me along at 6 am.
I dropped him at work at 7 then had to go to the Dr's to collect his prescription, they don't open until 8 so that meant an hour hanging about, then I had to wait another our for the pharmacy to open. Then I went shopping and then home to the boat, only I was behind a hearse, I felt it would be disrespectful to go screaming past the herse so I drove behind at a steady 25 mph. All this meant I finally got back to the boat at 12:38, having left at 6:30! I had to leave the boat at 2 to collect CHS, so I had a very short time to get all the jobs done for the day.
I hope Kittie is able to post again soon.Chin up, Titus out.0 -
Compost bin duly watered (used what would have been waste sink water). A lot of water ran out of the bottom, I think it might have been a bit dry
. Too dry to explode, I think.

Mine has still not done anything, perhaps in the weather we're having watching grass grow would be even more tedious that waiting for the compost bin to explode, anyone doing some painting? watching it dry may be the high spot of the day!0

Wouldn't take very long in this weather though... :cool:0 -
We had some nice dramatic thunder & lighting at bedtime then some very rain, now back lovely and warm again, 23c now. BBC saying more storms tonight from 8pm on all night
Sunday 15c and rain all day!!!0 -
Ok fencers, I don't want to be miserable so I'll amble over to the fence and say 'isn't it lovely to see the sun and what a nice change it makes from our usual weather'.
Trouble is my parents taught me to tell the truth. The truth is as much as I like blue skies and sunshine, this has been too much, for too long for little me and it's making me feel below par.
Coping vibes to everyone, and thanks as always for your posts, you folk are good company.
PS. please be nice to me when its cold and I get my SAD lamp out lol.0 -
Morning all,
It should be my running day today but as I was still awake at 2:40am this morning and the HT woke me for breakfast at 7am I thought that expecting to run a couple of miles on that little sleep was probably unreasonable. It wasn't the heat that kept me awake and we had a day out with a fair bit of walking yesterday so who knows....Hopefully a better night tonight and I'll run tomorrow instead.
I've cleaned the whole of downstairs so far. I might do the ironing later as the next lot is drying on the line. I know some of you are too hot but I don't really feel the heat that much. I ummm...had to put socks on in bed last night for half an hour as my feet were a bit cold
I'm sorry to hear about Kittie. I'd be hard pushed to know what anyone could find to report anyone else about on this board. Some people seem to get kicks out of deliberately causing trouble for other people. Talking of troubles, if you've seen the news story of the young girl local to here that died this week, she was the girlfriend of one of the HT's friends. Things have been a bit subdued in the Cranky household because that's the second 14 year old that has died this year. If only it was possible to turn the clock back 24 hours and warn them.
I need to put the gammon joint in the slow cooker next. The HT will have his with chips and beans, I'll have mine with salad. The tomatoes are starting to ripen so tomatoes with every meal for the forseeable future :rotfl: I might make some pasta sauce and I'm contemplating picking some of the green ones and making Diva's green tomato chutney.
Take care all of you0
