We have lots of compost here, and Australian sun is not meak. I think the general advice is to keep it a bit wet, so chuck some water in. The heat gets it going a lot faster.

I went to the gym last night, weights with the personal trainer. He pushed me hard. Then, as hubby was having his session, I was gently walking on the treadmill. After not long walking, I was stuffed. Turned it off, went to step down.... my legs did not hold me and I slid, not gracefully, to the ground :o I got up again pretty quick, only to see my fellow treadmillers looking at me oddly. Because they'd only seen me todding along at 4kmph for a few minutes, and not the hour of training prior, I think they thought I was a real wuss :rotfl: Nothing but the ego bruised :D

Softstuff, wuss is not a word I would ever choose to describe you.

Just popping in to say goodnight before attempting to sleep. I've had the aircon and fan on in my bedroom all day and it has managed to reduce the temperature to 26° so I live in hopes.
Tomorrow is due to be even hotter than today. Wonderful.

Well, that was an interesting night, thunder and lightning rolling along the Solent, but didn't touch us here - it was like watching nature's firework display x

Day 72 in the hot house and still no rain.....

I am going to ask DH to set up a Raaj (sp) style ceiling fan system in the bedroom and tie the rope to his feet - so when they go all twitchy (read Michael Flatley) at least I get some benefit from it :D

    Morning all,

I've managed to clear the work inbox already. It only took about two hours! After work this afternoon I think I'll be watering again. We had about two minutes of rain yesterday, nothing like the several hours forecast and the thunderstorms predicted for today have been cancelled.

I've installed some insect netting on the edibles. Hopefully we'll finally get to eat the spinach, mustard and radishes!

Baked fish and a warm roast potato and courgette salad for tea tonight.

Hugs to all who need them. I hope that Kittie is able to rejoin us again very soon.

P.S. Silva I'm sure you'll be relieved to get rid of the monitor today!

No nuttin here - no thunder, lightning or rain :) The local RNLI are having their open day on Sunday - rain forecast
Getting rid of the heart monitor this morning - don't mind the contraption it's just the sticky pads that have irritated in the heat.
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle
  • We had distant rumblings of thunder at 4.30 ish this morning but absolutely nothing else, no rain still and it's 23 here already this morning so it's going to be another scorcher! We have another removals company coming this morning to look us over and give us a quote and we've established with the people we're buying from that we can go a week later than anticipated without giving them any problems. So, still, we're waiting for our buyer to sign contracts because her solicitors keep doing delaying tactics and I'm just cynical enough to think that the longer they can stretch this out the more money we'll have to pay and the only ones gaining are the legal eagles!
    so the box packing continues.....
  • There's obviously been some rain in the night here and the air feels cooler outside.

I think that West Wales is getting it a bit cooler than some of the country. One of the positive sides of moving here is I was thinking to myself "When global warming really revs up - then I'll be glad at times of a temperature a couple of degrees lower". I've figured out attractive places, with shade if wanted, where I can sit in a sea breeze and buy myself a cool drink to have - whilst watching the scenery.

Admitted that, also on the positive side for moving here, I was thinking "Should be safer from anyone trying to do any fracking near me".

We had some rumbles of thunder last night (I could hear them above the noise of the fan) but no rain. how about you, maryb?

I'm poorly too polly - sore throat and ear just on one side, a bit of a cough, swollen glands, but they've swollen "inwards" so swallowing is difficult atm and a mouthful of liquid needs swallowing twice iyswim, but I can breathe all right at any rate, and if I go to the GP they'll only say it's a virus. It hurts my ear when i swallow too, but it does seem marginally less painful than yesterday, so hopefully I'll be better soon. I hope you and DD feel better very soon xx

kitttie Sending you ((HUGS)) if you're reading along. I hope you'll be back soon, though no one could blame you if you decided not to when you are "allowed" to :(

ETA It's 27.2 in our South-facing living room so I've left the curtains closed, but I hate sitting in the gloaming. A poster on another thread who lives in Herts said it was 29 in her North-facing living room when she got up!

Yes, I think your nearest proposed site is currently Llanelli. We will shortly have a fracking seam running quite near underneath us.

  • No rain overnight, but we have thunder and large spots of rain just now, steam rising from the slabs!!

The medication for my back meant I slept quite well last night, just woke once convinced it was about 4am, looked at the clock.......0.58 not quite 1am, so turned over and woke again at 7.40am. Shower and hair wash after my haircut yesterday. We are due at a friends for coffee this morning.

    Just now its 25c outside.
