Woohoo me too! and I've made a summer pudding which is cooling down on top of the freezer and fed my orchids which have put out more flower stalks in all this heat, see there is an 'up' side to this heat!0

I had a fall yesterday and ended up in A&E . Got a torn rotator cuff, and the pain if I move that arm is spectacular. Anybody had this and got any tips on how to deal with it? Hosp gave me ONE dihydrocodeine that didn't even touch it.0

Just sending very gentle hugs mardatha, sorry I can't help with the pain question, afraid to say that pain killers of any strength don't touch my pain and after 15 years I have just grown to live with itMust use my stash up!0 -
Oh poor Mardatha so sorry. At least you didn't break a bone (I know you've mentioned your medication causes bone thinning)
DH very frustrated that we can't go sailing for another month when the three months since his op will be up. But I'm not totally sorry, it's very hard to get away from the heat when you're out on the water although we do have a brilliant sunshade we can put up when we are in harbour.
I've been trying to change my mindset where the grass is concerned, dismissing thoughts of dry and frazzled and thinking golden sunbleached summer lawns instead. Sounds much better doesn't it?
Last time we had weather like this in 2003 our beautiful copper beech tree suffered. Next year it only put out a few leaves and the year after it was well and truly dead. If we had known we would have diverted all the bath water every day to water it. Grass comes back as soon as it starts to rain in the autumn but a stressed tree can't always recoverIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
Ouch, mar. You poor thing. I don't know what a torn rotator cuff is like but if its anything like a frozen shoulder where it feels as though your arm is being yanked from your body, you have my deepest sympathy. Get on to your GP and see if you can't get some more painkillers.
Last night was so uncomfortable. My bedroom, where I live because all my stuff is there...including my TV...faces due west with just the big window facing that way and the smaller window facing south. With all blinds and curtains closed it keeps reasonably cool until after lunch. After that it is stifling. Last night the temperature didn't drop below 24 which is where it is now.
Fortunately our village shop opens at 6am so I walked up there at just before 7 this morning. It was beautiful and I wonder why I don't do that more often. Oh, no I don't. Honesty forces me to confess that sheer laziness rules that out. Anyway, I have since then had breakfast, done a sinkful of hand washing and got it out, had a quick whip round the bottom of the house, packed one more box ready for my hoped-for move and am sitting here with a welcome coffee.
There is still some ironing to be tackled but that can wait until it's cooler.
Hope you can all find some shade today.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
You are only one decision away from a totally different life.
ETA while typing this the temperature in my room has just reached 26. Doesn't look good for sleep tonight.I believe that friends are quiet angels

I must confess that I come alive in this weather. I start to despair a bit if we don't have a couple of weeks of sun
I'm afraid I'm with FPK - i LOVE this weather and don't really want it to end (it can rain at night if it likes, I'll accept that). I don't recall ever saying 'it's too hot' - even in Dubai.. i just took a long walk through Regents park before my London meeting today - how beautiful it is. The rose garden was spectacular.. Anyway, pound to a penny the weather will break on the first day of the school summer holidays..
I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Mardatha, your Sunday name seams appropriate. What a disastrous move. I don't know what a rotor cuff is either but if that strong sounding painkiller isn't helping then I can only imagine the pain levels. I'm hoping the GP can offer you something.
Our bedroom is west facing too. It's chronic. I share all your pain.
Maryb I didn't realise you sailed! Are you hands on?
I called the surgery, they have put a prescription request in for DD as it's already on her past medication. We're on the way. I also made an appointment for the asthma nurse. Thursday is earliest. My peak flow has dropped by 70 again and relying on the blue inhaler. No wheeze yet though, only when I take the peak flow. The blue inhaler speeds up my heart rate so I don't like using it but needs must.
Allotment woes for today? Doofus 'ere didn't know that there are female only variety of cucumbers that self pollinate. I bought seeds that need pollinating... so my indoor cucumber needs pollinators. I lack pollinators in the greenhouse. Doofus' ere has raided the kids paint brushes and now has to spend the season faffing aboot with stroking flowers.0 -
DH wanted a boat, I wanted a baby so we had both and no money:rotfl: DH remembers how old DD1 is by when we ordered the boat:eek:
It's a bit of an old lady now (29 years old this year) but we have had many happy summers on her. It is a sailboat but we do have an engine -thankfully, the days are long gone when DH thought it fun to battle to windward under sail. Me, I never thought that bit fun and used to reflect ruefully on marrying a man who positively liked getting cold and wet
But when the weather is good there's nothing like sitting in a sheltered anchorage. Both the DDs still enjoy coming with us for a week in summer though now they are adults it's a bit cozy compared to when they were babies and we strapped them into a car seat lashed down in the cockpit. Bathing them in a plastic crate on the deck always used to raise an 'ahhh' from passers by. Happy days!It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
fuddle, now you have learned that before embarking on this gardening lark, you need to do a course in the sex life of vegetables.
Good luck with the paintbrush!I believe that friends are quiet angels

Mar two years ago I had a rotator cuff tear . A couple of hours helping support the weight of a fully raised garage door while the wires were replaced added to picking up a very heavy box a courier had left in the hallway were not the wisest things I've ever done .
I didn't go to a&e and it was a long time later I mentioned it to our GP .
One Dihydrocodeine will do nothing . Did they give you an information sheet on rotator cuff injuries or advise you to speak to your GP ? Apart from strong pain relief , exercise is needed to help improve the function of the joint .
Sleep was near impossible , the pain from the bottom of the shoulder blade upwards also at times was felt in the spine . I had pillows propped high but had very little sleep . I took 2 cocodamol in the recommended doses over the correct number of days then in between a strong pain relieving gel that didn't contain codeine .
After a couple of weeks things eased a bit and I read up on the recommended exercises and gradually things began to improve .
It's a very common sports injury btw .
I would recommend you see your doctor as you will need good pain relief and that's the best place to find it . I truly do feel your pain mar and hope your Dr helps you recover faster than the white paracetamol only idiot writing this . I am aware of that shoulder all the time especially shopping and carrying anything heavy . It's my own fault for not acting sooner .
