We've missed you mar! Have you had a good break?

Welcome back mar!
fuddle - I used to suffer really badly from hayfever, probably started when I was about 11. The only relief I got was to stand in a cool shower for a while. Hugs to your DD, I feel her pain. (And I hardly suffer from it now).0 -
Mar sorry but no
Thats what happens when you go off on holibobs!

I'm a jeans & Converse girl and very happy in my current workplace as the dress code is very relaxed with dress-down Fridays2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

I expect that the receptionist had got a little confused with the guidelines to not prescribe hayfever medication. Having read some literature today it has been suggested that hayfever meds and saline eye drops be culled along with other items that are easily accessible on the high street. That said, I'm also now aware that steroidal nasal sprays are not just 'hayfever meds', are prescription only items and I expect she needs something like this to help her out just now.
Thanks to Emptynester I know that people are still being helped with prescriptions and it has given me the knowledge I need to push past reception if I need to.
People make mistakes. Maybe if I had the gumption to request steroidal nasal sprays for a child instead of 'hayfever medication' it would never have been an issue
I did take offence NM. It did come across as a stern word in my direction but I now see no harm was intended.0 -
Just my reaction to today's NHS. I think it is appalling the amount of stuff the Government has taken off prescription. No I'm sorry but I don't think they will prescribe a steroidal nasal spray for a nine year old. It's a matter of safety. They will do their best with what is appropriate for her age. They do not work that well anyway I took my self off them because they were not working.0

With respect NM I'm getting cross now. Two years ago, at the age of 7 DD was prescribed Avamys, a corticosteroid, to aid the antihistamine. It worked very well and is safe for use with children over the age of 6. My DD isn't coping very well at the moment and you're touching a concerned parental nerve.
I shall leave the hayfever talk now.0 -
I won't give you a hug for the shingles Tiredtrophy, but you have my heartfelt sympathy. A good reminder about the shingles vaccine though. We didn't even know it existed until I got shingles and hubby got vaccinated
Lamewolf, I had to look up sprocker spaniel. Aren't they just adorable! And I'd bet a bit bouncy too.
Csarina and Lamewolf, I'm a real jeans person. In fact, middle of summer in Australia I can usually be found in jeans. Until now that is! VJsmum, you sound so much like me, could we be long lost relatives?? My jeans are usually worn with my DMs. Brown though, not black, I only ever wear black shoes at work because black to me has always been work uniform and never the two should meet. Floss, I'd wear cons in summer too, but they pinch my toes
Just a thought Fuddle, is the hives definitely the reaction to the sun, or a reaction to sunscreen? I know most sunscreens set a friend of mine off with hives (moogoo doesn't)
FPK, Gap closed in Australia, but I can order online. I'm tempted somewhat because reading on bodybuilding forums they're popular (it's not that I have a body builder physique, just that we seem to be looking for the same thing!)Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
Base....250ml cream, half a mug whole milk, 3 eggs separated, a spoon of sugar for each egg....equal weight really, vanilla
That is for a small batch..the quantity i did as there is only two of us now.
Heat cream and most of milk, whisk egg yolks and sugar, the rest of the milk and vanilla together, pour in hot, not boiling cream, transfer back to saucepan, heat and stir til thicker, like custard...might not be very thick....do not boil. Place pan in cold water and stir til cooler, chill in fridge overnight.
Take alk the big blackcurrants out and freeze, bottle etc. All the little ones, stalks etc,..chuck in a pan with a spoon or two of water so they dont burn, heat until they burst then turn off the heat and leave the lid on for half an hour. Sieve to get a thick unsweetened paste. Chill
Next day....get out ice cream maker...or a large plastic box.
1. Ice cream maker....put in custard and two or three spoons pf blackcurrant puree and start churning. Beat the egg whites and add. When churned, add several more spoons of puree but as ripple, jyst swirled in, freeze.
2. No machine.
Beat egg whites, fold puree and then egg whites into custard and put into freezer on fast freeze if you have it.
After an hour or two, when frozen round the edges, scrape into mixer bowl and quickly mix with k beater....if your bowl fits inthe freezer its easier,...repeat twice. Then swirl in some more puree and freeze in a box.
Keeps well for a week but is best sooner as can get a bit hard...take it out to soften!0 -
Thanks Tiredtrophy, sounds fabCarolbee0
