    Afternoon all

I am 5'7" so will peer over the fence at you - but not as tall as Softstuff. This rather reminds me of this

We are moored! We found somewhere a little easier this time and I get a lie in.
I don't need to get up until 7am tomorrow, woohoo.
This morning was busy I was up before 5 as CHS had to be at work just after 6. Then I did the school run then took care of dgd was dd had a meeting, dgd and I had a go at cleaning the bathroom, we didn't make too much mess.
After that I met up with my other dd as she had CHS new bank card delivered. Next I went and collected my laptop that had been in for repair. I finally got home to the boat by 11:30 where I packed our bags ready for 3 nights away from the boat whilst it is in dry dock.
We had a speedily made tea and are now putting out feet up for a while before bed,
    Chin up, Titus out.

Dispatches from the Land of Nargle.......today we saw the oncologist. OH has cancer in the top bit of his spine and his right shoulder blade, hence all the pain and discomfort he has been having. Plan is one shot of radiotherapy (most likely next week) on those areas to kill off little cancer cells and shrink big 'uns. Then chemo starts the week after, six sessions at three weekly intervals to deal with anything lurking elsewhere (he wasn't able to tolerate the full MRI scan so they only got half the picture). Prognosis? Can't say. Some folks don't live long, others go on for years in this situation, and that is their intention with my OH.

Our plan therefore is for him to crack on with the treatment, adding in our own bits such as trying to have a good varied diet, apricot kernels (supposed to kill cancer cells) and hemp seed oil capsules (also toxic to cancer cells and a good analgesic), and a positive mental attitude.

We have a brilliant chemo unit at the hospital, fabulous Macmillan nurses, supportive GP surgery and local pharmacy, good friends and neighbours, and even a selection of rather cool hats for when he starts losing his hair- bring it on!

When you all get over here on the cruise, I have a feeling the heffalump will be better suited to the proportions of this house than most of you lot :rotfl:

When we renovated, we renovated quite specifically to my hubby and my height (he's 6ft 2). The shower rose and shower walls are high enough he can soap under his arms, we purchased 2 overheight toilets (it makes my short friend giggle that her feet dangle), the medicine chest and mirror in the bathroom is so high most of you will only see your topknot in it. The worktops are a wee bit higher in the laundry and when we do the kitchen, the worktops are going up. We even had to get the ceiling fan poles cut down to bare minimum and the fans raised up towards the ceiling and two of the doorways extended (they were arches and lower). Height can require as much adaptation as shortness.

Just thought my post might seem a little flippant in tone. It is not meant to be. Anyone who has ever been close to someone with cancer will know the stresses and strains on that person's partner who takes on the carer role. I work two 12 hour shifts a week and have to plan ahead all the time, making sure he has food to hand which doesn't involve too much work to prepare. A few times I have come home to find he has not had his evening meal because he was too tired. I have then put a meal together for him. I don't resent that because it is not his fault, cancer really takes out all your energy. I am aware that my own health has to be guarded like a precious thing so I plod on, getting all essential jobs done, making sure we eat well and get plenty of rest. I no longer get wound up about work politics or trivial irritations, there are things in life more worthy of my attention. Right now OH is downstairs watching TV, I am reclining in bed, big ginger cat cuddled up next to me and border collie dozing further down the bed. What more could I want?

Nargle Huge Hugs x I am lucky enough not to have been touched by cancer within my family or friends, I can't imagine the stress it must cause, on top the basic, practical stuff that takes over your life on top of 'normal' life - be gentle with yourselves x

Softstuff My 2 sons are 6'2" and 6' 5" - DD is 5'8" - I spend my life on tippy toes - I refuse to amend my bathrooms :rotfl:

Hester I thought retirement was supposed to be all knitting and Tea :D Enjoy your lie in, you deserve it x

We've been out for a 'spin' in new car, getting used to it now, it's huge compared to our last one, but lovely to drive :j watched the sun set off of Yarmouth, popped down to Newtown Creek, then came home via the backroads - rabbits, grouse, pheasant, foxes and a badger avoided me :rotfl:

Adaptions for little height are not allowed unless you can afford someone to make you one. People get offended when you ask for lower and then go ahead and put it out of your reach. I don't think I should have to be forced to have everything far too tall for me. My legs dangle on a normal toilet. We have a box at the doctors to put your prescription requests in. It is too high I cannot reach it, never mind put my request in. I have to queue.

    Sorry rant over.
