Morning everyone. I can't have that bungalow it has been withdrawn. I don't know why. It said on the website I had not filled my application in right. That is just the website demanding every address I have ever lived at. It is complaining I don't know the post code, well I will soon have gone back to before post codes existed. I have been told there is a fault on the website.

I now have a number to call for someone to come and assess me. I am also having to go back to the beginning on my complaint about the noise. And the rubbish.

Sorry to be do late but I woke up feeling reasonably energetic. As this is more or less an annual event I seized the day and did a few annoying fiddly little jobs that I had been putting off for far too long.
Apropos of which, thanks for the link nursemaggie. Unfortunately, in spite of having the volume turned up as far as it would go, there was not one sound from it. Still, the lady looked very happy and was most animated but I could have done with subtitles. I'll try again later.

When the family moved out the one thing I missed more than Pickle was her little pink plastic step stool that she used to reach things on the kitchen counter. It was invaluable to me for reaching things in the cupboards. Now, when I have to mix or beat things things, I put the bowl into the sink. As for the cupboards, I only use the two bottom shelves.

Well done Islandmaids DD. Are family celebrations on the cards?

Nargle, I can't put it better than fuddle has done. She is right, we CAN read between the lines and we are all saluting your bravery. Pragmatism will take you a long, long way, but there are all those other moments. We are here for those.

Coffee break is now over and my pile of ironing is beckoning seductively. So, Classic FM on, iron fired up, and off we go again.

    THOUGHT FOR TODAY

The average person tells about 4 lies a day or 1460 a year, a total of 87,600 by the age of 60.
And the most common lie is, "I'm fine."
I believe that friends are quiet angels

nursemaggie. I'm not prone to swearing, at least, not much.
    But, "OH BU&&ER."

Monna it is at our age. I once went to the doctors once and he said how are you and I replied "I'm fine."

Well what the H*ll have you come to see me for? I think we then spent the next half hour talking about his mother as I was nursing her at the time.

The sound on the video was fine when I watched it last night. You did not accidentally click mute on your sound did you? It's easily done, like I click on caps lock every time I click on an A.

    Afternoon all,

I'm 5ft 1 and the late MrC was 5ft 7. According to the graphs in the baby book that you are given when your bundle of joy is born, the HT should end up about 5ft 4. He's 13 and a half and 5ft 5 so far.....his feet are already bigger than his father's were. He comes in handy for reaching things down from high places for me though :)

Last night I discovered that the reason that you are taught algebra at school is so that you can do your child's algebra homework with them when they are stuck. As he handed the worksheet over the HT kindly told me "It can't be that hard mum, it's only for 12 and 13 year olds". I've been telling him that algebra is important because you need to use it for things like figuring how much of something you can buy if you only have a certain amount of money but even I couldn't think of a reason why you'd need to plot a graph showing y = 2x -3.

I've been running this morning but it wasn't one of my better sessions. I walked round Chester yesterday for a couple of hours then stood for an hour to see the Queen and Meghan. That was supposed to be my rest day then the HT had a nightmare last night and shouted me about 2:30am so I was awake with him for a while which means I'm tired today. Never mind, I have 2 rest days now before the next running day so hopefully Monday will be better.

When I became a widow I was told that "fine" is actually a code word. It means f***ed up, insecure, neurotic and emotional. Now I pay particular attention to any of my friends who use that word because mostly, the widow definition is closer to the truth than people like to let on.

Nargle I'll pm you with some more info that may or may not be useful but it's probably worth knowing. Hugs

Take care all of you :)

Does anyone else ask taller strangers to reach things on a high shelf in a supermarket?
I used to when I was able to shop on my own, yes. Now I have Mr LW with me whenever I shop, so problem solved. I'd still kind of like to be able to pop to the shops on my own though.
I am learning that legs are meant to dangle from toilets and kitchens are meant to be cluttered with duck boards and step stools. Trip hazards? I prefer to think of it as an obstacle course and those are sporty aren't they. :rotfl:
I caught my little toe on the leg of my step-stool last night; I'm afraid my language would have made your average trooper blush.

I was trying to think what to say in response to NM's news, and you've pretty much summed it up there.

Nargle I didn't read your post as flippant, either; I saw it as someone relaying what is, and taking the attitude that she will roll up her sleeves and deal with it as best she can. Posi-vibes on their way to you. x

Some good news here for once; we have an appointment for Mr LW to see the neurologist. At MK hospital. On 7th July, which is earlier than any of the online appointments being offered at Northampton and Bedford.

He'd decided to hold out for MK as if I end up having to drive him on a permanent basis, I cannot drive in a town I don't know (I have completely lost my confidence for driving since the accident 3 years ago; also I have zero sense of direction, and still get lost in MK unless I have driven the route as practise with someone else navigating, AND have detailed instructions to hand).

Anyways, he'd left a message on the online system and was supposed to hear back by today - or if not there was a number for him to call. I said to him to call this morning, not wait and see if they call today; and lo and behold, there was an appointment available 7th July at 16:30. :T

As planned, I will go with him and bring the car home, then fetch him when he's done. I still have my route instructions from last time he was there for lung tests, and we can do a refresher run of the route before the date - it's only 3 miles each way, so won't cost the earth in petrol.
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)

Monna I forgot. I have a step stool to throw out. I used to have one for upstairs and one for down to save me carrying up and down stairs. It' a pity you don't live near enough for me to bring it to you.

I think it would be awkward to pack and post to you. When I bought the first one it was about £1.60 so would cost more to post. I suggest you go and look for one in independent hardware shops or similar. Up in the north there are shops that sell all sorts of things like bins buckets brooms and a thousand an one different things. There are hundreds of them all over, all owned by Asians. If you can't find something you want they are the best place to go.

In your case I would ask your DS to look out for one. I still think they will be very cheap. I use mine every day. I did put it in the bathroom because we both were struggling to dry our feet without a bath side to put our feet on. We have a walk in shower.

nursemaggie, I'm actually waiting until Pickle gets tall enough not to need the stool, then I'll ask for it back.
When I miss the 'a' I hit 'z'. It looks as though I'm writing in Russian. Sometimes tablet corrects it and sometimes not. Depends on whether there's a R in the month, I think.

Cranky, I must remember that definition of fine, it's spot on.
The adoption papers for my DS2 said that his birth mother was 4ft 11 and his father was 5ft4 so I was expecting a shortie. In the event he is a respectable 5ft9.

LW. I am obviously your long lost twin. You know the story about the Geography master who wrote on a boy's report, "Does well to find his way home." Well, that could have been written about me. I can have been driven to a place a hundred times and still not be able to get myself there. Even walking I can come out of a shop and not be able to find the car park. In fact I should not be allowed out on my own.

Nargle, just as others have said, you don't sound flippant. I think of you as being strong, determined and totally caring x
My family always deal with crises with humour and with determination. It's got us through a lot over the years.
Islandmaid, big congrats to your DD, sounds like she will do really well at an invaluable job x
NM, what a shame about the bungalow, let's hope the assessment helps with sorting out your housing needs once and for all x
LW, surely you know that the whole reason we have toes is so that we can find the furniture in the dark?!

I took mum into town this morning. There are no clothes or shoe shops near where she lives (the wilds of Scotland) so you can guess what we did? Yep, bought shoes and clothes. Shoes in Clarks sale, clothes in CS. I bought 2 books in CS, 99p, on how women lived in the 17th century (Antonia Fraser, so thoroughly researched). DH wanted a stock of suncream as he works outside so that, clothes, shoes and some food shopping for the weekend meant my arms are now several inches longer!
I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.

We have two nights with a bed that doesn't have a join in the middle, with unlimited WiFi, unlimited hot water and a toilet that we can flush as often as we want!
    I miss our boat!
