I just found a bungalow. Within walking distance of where I live now. slightly nearer town, and nearer the church I found. I still don't know the times of the services because of the road closure and the bus detour. I think it will be easy walking distance.

I think the only problem may be buses. I don't think any come come near there. It is fairly near to where I walked on Wednesday I think. I saw some bungalows I liked and wondered about them, nice little gardens. I wounder if I could have a garden? I would need some help.

It's on district heating which means a set price. Don't have to worry about using it longer in really cold weather. I did like the idea of having a flat with a common room so I got some company but this is likely just as good because I will see more of the neighbours because you have to be over sixty. It has adaptions. Which will helps.

What do you think? The rent is less than I am paying now.

I meant to say I ordered three pairs of shoes from H*otter. They came today and they fit. Cost me a fortune but I think they will outlive me.

I just need to bed them in and shorten the skirts and I am all set to go to church. monna will know what I mean. I don't want to go to church in casual trousers and trainers.

I could do with one of you to pin me up on the skirts. They have linings so it will be like doing 4 skirts. They are quite wide on the hems they are both paneled skirts.

nm - the rent is less, and in a bungalow you'll won't have neighbours overhead or attached on all sides, so it should be quieter. Sounds like it would be a sensible move.

I've just skimmed through quickly so like monna will need to catch up .
NM It's well worth investigating that bungalow and the bus routes etc .
Go onto the local online bus site and you should be able to see which routes go near .
You could go for a low maintenance garden with raised pots and containers . If there is a lawn there are retired people who will do those sort of jobs for not much cash . Your son may help you too .

Have you thought of Bolton Market to have your skirts altered ? There used to be people who did alterations there although it's a few years since I went there and I know it's more food focused now .
Some of the dry cleaners here do alterations too . It's worth paying a few pounds for being able to get the use out of your skirts .

Oddly enough I bought a beautiful pair of dressy sandals in Hotter a couple of weeks ago . I was always under the impression they only sold wide footwear . I'd tried the usual shops and while the prices keep going up the quality is going down rapidly .
I tried Hotter and there were the perfect pair . They had to order a different colour as they had two other colours in stock but no duck egg blue .
They had buy one get one half price so dd ended up with very pretty and comfy slip ons . Neither pair has needed breaking in , they are so comfortable .

I'd like to thank everyone for kind comments re dd . She always knew what she wanted to achieve but was so worn down and lacking any self belief after all the years when everything was being mismanaged that she no longer looked ahead .
Due to home schooling and that brilliant tutor funded by the EU she's only got to do the final step of studying for the degree .
She's got a way to go before she starts but she aims to get there .

I hope everyone is having a good weekend . Still too hot and humid here but I know many love the heat .

Poldark ! Just in case those who watch don't know . New series tomorrow BBC 1 either 8 or 9 pm forgotten which .

There but for fortune go you and I.
  • It's been a strangely unproductive day today, we both slept badly last night and He Who Knows has been feeling 'off' all day, nothing specific but just out of sorts. He managed an hours doze on the lawn this afternoon and is feeling slightly less jaded now but I'm blitzed, hope we're not coming down with something! Lovely photos of Nell, James and the boys in the new tent which is absolutely palatial, never seen one so large. Then the cutest one of the 5 year old standing in his dads shoes in the doorway, he's a love. No more sorting or packing done as we had the environmental pack come in the post and they have flagged up a potential flood risk to the new house which we must sort out before we go any further with the purchase. I think it's OK but the Estate Agent will come back to us on Monday having contacted the vendors and got answers to our questions. Talking to a neighbour his in laws bought a bungalow further up this road and the environmental pack flagged up a potential flood risk for them, and they aren't anywhere near any water at all it's from the water pipes in the road so I hope ours is something daft like that, we'll see!!!

I'm not finding it hot Polly I have a thick cardigan on. It turned cooler yesterday. What my DD used to call a chilly cardie day when she was in Saudi. That would have meant it had fallen below 40. Forecast says warmer tomorrow.

I only paid £2 and £3 for the skirts. seems a waste to spend a lot of money on shortening. I don't think there is anything like a stall in the market that does alterations. Are you thinking of The Market Place? The Council sold that about 10 years ago it's a shopping centre now. It's a subject not to mention to the locals they have not forgiven the Council yet. They probably never will. I mainly frequent the food market.

Buses are run from Manchester these days. If you don't know what number bus you need you can't find out about it. I have a timetable for every route that comes through Bolton. There is no bus route near by. There is a bus service for the elderly that picks you up from home. I'm not thinking I am ready for that yet.

The bungalows are all joined together like a terrace so I will have neighbours either side. I can't really tell if it is the bungalow I think because when it comes to the house numbers Google is pretty clueless. The one I think it is has a 20 or 30 foot buddleia in the front garden.Well it is a lot taller than the houses near by, but street view is 4 years old 2014 it says.

The gardens are only handkerchiefs I am sure the buddleia fills it. There will be no room for a lawn or raised beds. I expect the back gardens are just big enough for a whirligig. I was just meaning a a few flowering shrubs and some bulbs in the spring. You do get carried away Polly it is still sheltered housing. Of course they may have just put a picture of a different one on the website anyway they do that. All details you get is a photo not much bigger than our avatars of the front only. You can see half the front door and a corner of a widow through the overgrow garden. :rotfl:

Mrs L it often just goes by postcode. In theory we are in a flood risk area because there is a little brook at the bottom of the road. We are umpteen feet higher than the end of the road (very hilly round here) but because it is all one postcode we get the same flood risk. It makes it a bit of a pain sorting out house insurance because you have to make sure they are actually assessing the risk properly and not just lazily attributing risk. No excuse really with Google Earth so easily available
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!
  • On the environment agency website https://flood-warning-information.service.gov.uk/long-term-flood-risk/map
you can put in your postcode to find a map of flood risk in the area

    Savings goal £30,000 1% = £300.

MrsL when I bought our current house, 15 years ago, it flagged up flooding, and land slippage, and risk of radiation - I knew of some spring high tides in Cowes, a mile away up a huge great hill, we are on one of the highest parts of the Island (Cowes used to be great fun for pub 'lock ins' when we were teens) - land slippage was the other side of the Island (if it slips this far, there would be no more Isle of Wight) and the radiation risk was Plessy radar, which, in some form, has been there since WW2 - I risked it ;)

Worth checking on never the less, just to assure yourselves x

In other News, we collected new car from mainland today - DH is as happy as a happy thing :rotfl:

Some of you may remember that DS1 didn't speak to me, DD or DS2 for quite a few years, he got back in touch just before Christmas and we have seen each other a few times and got on well.

DS1 has split with his partner, she was the main cause of the problems and didn't want any of us to see the children. Well, today I was invited with DD to DS1s house and he had the children there. So pleased to be involved in their lives now, they are 6 and 2. I'm going to bed a very happy Granny tonight!
