ivyleaf when married to my first husband I went away for over a month. We were in Singapore so sheets needed changing a minimum of every other day. This was in the day when there was no such thing but a plain while sheet and flat.
I was gone 6 weeks. The landlord sent some builders round to do something with the drains. Never did find out what. Husband went to Japan and Korea, with a UN mission. I think he only went along for the ride but they needed someone to fix the plane if anything broke down. They were flying around Japan a lot and then onto Korea. He got to see Tokyo over a weekend but otherwise it was US bases.
Because of the drains he give our home help can't remember how to spell what they were called, a month off. She had the dog and the fish until the day after I came back. The house had not been cleaned for six weeks. There was piles of washing up in the kitchen, it stunk. The sheets were dark brown. We had a washing machine but our maid did not use it. I washed the sheets in it 5 times on a boil wash.
When she came back next day she said. "Oh Missie don't leave him alone that long again!"
I am sure he knew where the sheets were kept.
Another one my second Husband. We had been moved a month and I complained about him not putting his clean clothes away. His excuse. We moved house I don't know where anything is.
I pointed out we did not change his chest of draws or the draws his side of the bed. One wonders how he got dressed to go to work every morning.0 -
Oh goodness nm
I thought of pointing out that sometimes he puts the clean sheets away (so he should know where they are), but he'd have only looked blank and said "If you say so."
He does do his own washing though, so at least he knows how the washing machine and dryer work.
Well, I haven't actually packed my suitcase yet, but I have got everything on the bed in readiness, and the things that need folding have been folded. I'll get it done eventually. Meanwhile, displacement activity rules. And I have to do it a little bit at a time, otherwise I get exhausted, shaky and dithery, and risk bursting into tears, which I'd much rather not.0 -
Great news at FPK headquarters. Dad's final tests have come back fine. Although he still has some issues they can be managed at home with his doctor's advice. It sounds like he'll be going home tomorrow. This has also prompted mum to get a bit of help which I think will help make her life a bit easier.
Relief all around!
Ivy and NM---my OH does his share of most things but he does not make beds-either daily or to change sheets. That is ok. I don't clean Maggie the cat's tray--only scoop it and I almost never vacuum. I think I got the better end of the dealThere is however a pop song with a line about someone who lets the grass grow on the edges of his sheets I think it is fitting :rotfl: (I'd link to the song except I can't remember who sings it and google is just turning up sheets of lawn turf)

FPK Glad Your dad is OK and going home.
DS is worse he has to be told to strip his bed and put his bedding in the wash every day for months to get him to do it. I am glad I don't have to do it any more.0 -
Very quick post from me only got home an hour ago .
Very glad to read your Dad will be heading home with treatment to follow from his doctor . You should all sleep easier tonight FPK .
VJsmum I don't know if it's because we've had very little rain but hayfever levels over here have been very high for a long time . I find all your testing and eliminating really interesting . It must also help fellow posters with similar issues .
Wishing you a safe journey and a good holiday Ivyleaf . Just hope the vertigo calms down .
Fuds it's quite possible you could find some large tumbler type tomato plants complete with flowers still on sale and usually reduced right down in price . The times I've lost some of mine through disease or some other reason I've been able to replace the missing ones . Homebase used to sell them but they are no longer trading . I've seen them in B&Q and the local growers and nurseries have them too. We passed some farms and smallholdings today and they had them near the gates .
I did understand you are still angry as anyone would be and not wanting to engage with the lottie gammon . I'd be exactly the same after trying to get on and then nothing changing . Maybe the word I should have used earlier is wisdom . You've tried and he's still the same so it comes down having the wisdom to choose your battles . Nothing will change so you're wise to choose not to join his battle .
Enjoy your gate and blackberries growing up and part hiding him . He's probably wondering how you managed to get these things . Maybe being a better person who just wants to grow their own and be nice to the nice people there has a lot to do with it .
Monna I hope you managed to get your feet up and snooze between all the activity of the last few days . I don't know how you do it !
Today has been very worthwhile to the point where a very long talk with her original pain management psyche has led to DD identifying what she would like to achieve in the years to come . Main thing is to do a degree via the OU when things are all sorted to a point she can cope with it . She left formal education aged 13 for home schooling and looking at her sisters degrees was something that made her feel very low and worthless . It's something she's mentioned a lot over the years and today someone who's opinion she values very much gave her the extra belief that it could be done .
The wonderful thing about starting everything from scratch again is everything has been positive , supportive and very encouraging . Every part of the network are feeding back to all involved and if we tried we couldn't have thought up a better way .
Tonight we feel positive , grateful to the good professionals still hanging in as the NHS goes through challenging times ,and very tired !
Out early tomorrow so if I don't get online tomorrow I'll wish all a peaceful night and a good day tomorrow .
Mar I used to stick flowery things on lampshades in the early 70s . I think it was an antidote to living on a lowish income and the fact I was and remain a hippy/ flower child .

Today my OH commenced taking Zomorph capsules. Amazing! He was able to drive his new car (making sure he wasn't feeling dizzy or drowsy of course) and accompany me to the park with the dog for her morning lunatic perambulation. Added to which he has started taking hemp oil capsules as well, which some swear by. We heard today his oncology appointment is next Thursday. Things are settling into place. One life - your life - live it!0

I'm so glad Nargleblast.
Great news about your Dad FPk
Pollyanna Wishing your D well with her plans
My case is now packed apart from my spongebag, which will go in in the morning.0 -
FPK, congratulations on your dads results, great news.
I do *intend* to get a full length mirror in the house at some point. Mirrors and I have a funny relationship. Sometimes I look in them and thing "sheesh who the heck is that", at other times I can look in them and feel like Fonzie "heeeeyyy" :rotfl: I think I need one now though to keep track and be accountable.
Fuddle, Pollyanna makes a great suggestion re the tomato plants. We always used to see them at car boots well established and very cheap.
Ivyleaf, laundry isn't a problem when I go away, but food is. Some may remember that every year when I go to England I have to leave 3 meals a day plus snacks ready to go for my husband. It isn't that he's lazy or inept, but left to his own devices he likely wouldn't bother eating much and he can't risk losing that amount of weight. I hope you get through the packing, sending hugs.
Mardatha, you made me giggle thinking of Hesters tenants, nude, sitting by the bath just watching it drain :rotfl:Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
My word you have all been busy little bees today. I can't remember much of what you have all been up to so I will hope to do better tomorrow.
Fuddle, of course other allotmenteers have got P.S. sussed. He is what he is, nasty. He isnt just nasty to you he just has that sort of personality that rubs people up thd wrong way. I keep mint like naanywindow. Thrown into a bag asnd into the freezer and just crumbled up when it is frozen. Mint is my favourite herb and it can be used with far more meat than just lamb. I'll use it with beef, mince, a spoonful in boring soup really lifts it and I often sprinkle a bit on salads. One of my most nostalgic smells is a couple of mint sprigs being boiled up with new potatoes, it always means summer.
Hope you have a good holiday Ivyleaf, and that the vertigo stops.
Sorry, everything else will have to wait until tomorrow.
I set off this morning all sensibly dressed and tooled up with umbrella. Not a drop of rain. The same this afternoon. We haven't had a drop all day in spite of the dire forecasts. I'm thinking of sending the met office a new piece of seaweed.
I was in and out of the dentists in 10 minutes flat. Nothing to be done. Phew! But I have to go back next week for the hygienist.
I do feel tired today though. I must have walked for 5 miles and after yesterday's marathon session in the church kitchen I really ache tonight. I will take tomorrow off.
Now I'm off to bed so I'll see you all tomorrow.
Sleep tight.I believe that friends are quiet angels
