While the angry bit of me wanted to say something, the rational bit said that I had no proof of what I'd seen, no legal right to search her and was likely to cause huge problems by saying anything at all (I'm technically only a casual employee even though I've been there more than 18 months, with no rights like many employees over here).

I figured anyone brazen enough to take not 1 but 8 magazines at once, leaving only 1 old home magazine behind (whilst also being in a very quiet waiting room) was also fairly likely to be the kind to deny all knowledge and say I was falsely accusing her.

Gawd I wish I actually believed in karma.

Some thieves literally have no shame either. I remember confronting a woman in a charity shop I volunteered at for stealing. She pulled the item quite calmly out of her handbag and told me she wasn't sure why I was bothered, smirking, and said that we were given the things anyway.

Softstuff, no wonder you were furious. It's one of those occasions when you have to keep reminding yourself that most oeople are kind, honest and good. These odd nasty characters are in the minority.......I hope.

Lame Wolf, I hate Windows 10 with a passion too. Cannot find anything, cannot be bothered to look as well as have no clue where to place anything. Irritating.
What is your recipe for your carrot and orange cake please?!
    Helena
    Here you go:

    CARROT AND ORANGE CAKE

    225g finely grated carrot
Juice and zest of 2 oranges
    200g soft brown sugar
    150g butter
    2 eggs
    200g SR flour
    3 tsp baking powder
    2 tsp cinnamon
    ½ tsp nutmeg
    1 tsp mixed spice
175g raisins or sultanas (I often use a mix of both)

Oven: 180 C. Line a 22cm cake tin with greaseproof paper. Melt butter in a bowl over hot water or in the microwave. Beat in sugar, orange rind, carrot and eggs. Sift flour, baking powder and spices together then fold into the mixture with the raisins/sultanas. Turn mixture into tin, bake for about an hour until cake is springy to the touch and a skewer comes out clean. Cool in tin for 5 mins then turn out onto wire rack.

I sometimes manage to get 8 oranges for £1 on the market, and I prep these, mix the resulting zest and juice with grated carrot, and freeze in four cake-sized amounts, so all I have to do is defrost and use when I want to make the cake.;)

May I join the Windows 10 haters. I've almost stopped using my computer, what I can't do on my tablet doesn't get done. Surely the message must have got through to someone by now that Windows 10 is unworkable for an awful lot of people.
Possibly those who are techie savvy are fine with it, but the rest of us really struggle.
If I ruled the world it would be illegal to mend things that aren't broken.
I can use Windows 10 just fine; I simply don't like it very much; I find it "clunky" as compared to Windows 7. :o

You're very welcome, Helena. My "recipe book" resides on a USB flash drive, so it's easy enough to copy'n'paste recipes from there. ;)

I guess everyone has been out sitting against the fence - shady or sunny side according to preference :D

I got rudely awakened at 4.10am by chap in house at the back trying to wake his mum who had locked him out... normally wouldn't hear his persistent tapping or firmly spoken "mother!" but all the upstairs windows are open in the folorn hope of some air.

Now I am awake, I think the best plan is to get up, shower, sort next laundry load & put out overnight load, feed cat & go to work. Then I can finish early & go to the allotment before an early night!

FPK hope there is more news soon xx
Mrs LW how was the invasion of surveyors?

Softstuff I think I would have struggled to not say something - even if it was the old "wish people would stop using us as a public library and just LEAVE THE MAGAZINES HERE!" :rotfl:

Morning Floss. You were not the only one woken at 4.00am, only my alarm was a huge doggy face nudging me and saying, "Well, here we are, morning again and time for breakfast." 5 minutes later I gave in to the inevitable and got up, but having dished out canine breakfast and waiting for the kettle to boil I refused to get involved in a game of tug o'war with toy monkey. So she's sulking and I am back in bed waiting for the caffeine to do its stuff.

We had a decent amount of rain last night so it does feel a bit fresher this morning. I can't wait to join in the grumbling at the bus stop later. Instead of bemoaning the heat we will be able to commiserate on the rain. What it is to be British!

Today I am getting the free T*sc*s bus to do some shopping and I will meet my friend who will get the bus out from another direction and join me on the free bus back to my village where we will have lunch in one of the eateries which will be jam packed with holidaymakers and riotous children on half term. After lunch I will trundle my shopping trolley back home and she will head off to visit her old school dinner lady in the Old Peoples Home. Life is so complicated!

This is the friend who was given 6 months to live in 2012 and has been living each day as if it were her last ever since. I don't know of anyone else who, 50 years on is still visiting her old school dinner lady!

I think it is about time for the human bean in this house to get her own breakfast.

    Happy Wednesday everyone.

    THOUGHT FOR TODAY

Getting old is easy. Having fun at it is the real trick.

    Morning all,

There only seems to be a trickle of news for mum. They still seem relatively confident that there are no signs of stroke but they are worried about his heart and lungs. Mum isn't sure exactly what the concern is but hopes to find out more today. I have my guess as to what it is but have decided there is no point trying to google diagnose from afar without all of the info.

I did see a lovely little owl yesterday on my after work walk. Today I woke up to lots of mist on the hills but it is slowly clearing.

Softstuff, I share your fury. The brazen entitlement of it!
Floss, I'd be furious. 4 is just late enough that there is no chance I'd get back to sleep.

I'm paying for my time in the garden now. I've somehow sustained several bites, but I have no idea what sort of creature has been nibbling me. Two bites are very swollen and itchy, the rest just itchy. I've had bicarb paste on them which seems to have helped (I always think this must be a rubbish remedy but it does work). I'll do a few more rounds of bicarb today and if that doesn't sort it may have to pop to the pharmacy for a bit of cream.

We have leftover roast veggies, hummus and sour dough for sandwiches today. No idea about tea, maybe salmon, brown rice and a strawberry spinach salad. Yoga this evening and maybe a run this morning since I didn't go for one yesterday.

Hugs to all who need them.x

Morning all - off on my holiday at 9.30 for 10 days so probably no internet ( maybe a good thing?) but I'll have a huge thread to catch up on when I get back - something to look forward to ;)
FPK - I use Anthisan to help stop the itch as the little blighters love me and I react with either blisters or huge bumps! Needless to say I'm well stocked with every repellant I can find!!
Hugs to all and catch up with you later x

Ledum is a homeopathic remedy. I was sceptical but it worked for me
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!
