Pleased to see the boards are back up!

The wildflowers sound lovely Mrs LW
Fuddle, fingers crossed the Tomatoes do recover
MMF wow. It sounds like you're a really lovely neighbour, first trying to help out and now going above and beyond when it went wrong. If she doesn't see that then the loss is hers. I too think the grass would probably recover. Is her lawn really so important she'll lose really lovely friends over a genuine mistake?

We've just had chicken burgers, courgettes and carrots. Apple cake is already sliced as a bit of birthday celebration. I'm really pleased that after quadruple checking it is obvious that this recipe really is fine and can be worked into most days' allowance relatively easily (not that we have cake daily, but it is nice to feel there is a workable option when we fancy it).

Last night's tea was salmon on a lentil salad. I think tomorrow is tofu stir fry. OH seems happy with the waffle maker. We'd agreed he could choose some of his own treats Saturday so he is still planning what he wants to do. We have agreed to a breakfast of waffles, chicken sausages (we'll give them a try, I've found several other options including a reduced fat pork so we'll work our way round the options) and posh fruit from the greengrocers.

Today was a long day of marking and tomorrow promises the same, but the slog is almost over. I don't mind it, although a week in and it starts to get harder to focus.

Hugs to all who need them.x

Need to start packing for my trip to Greece next week - I always end up taking too much - for Justin. Maybe Greenbee can give me some tips? ;)

    I hate packing :p

You need a suitcase small enough not to annoy you, and enough shoes for everything you want to do. Once the shoes are in, put everything you need in piles and fill the gaps between the shoes in order of importance. YOu might fit everything in, you might not.

We got in to Auckland very late last night. My boss has meetings this morning, but I don't :D so I'm going to get up shortly and go for a swim. I should probably go for a run at some point, but I'm enjoying swimming after a couple of days of outdoor swimming in Sydney and might as well see what the pool in the hotel is like.

Just a quickie because I am worn out.
FairyP I think your DH and I must be twins - except that I can give him quite a few decades. Not quite as long as my family reckon though. There was a big miscalculation and I was electrified to receive, from those who should have known better, cards and flowers wishing me a Happy 80th Birthday.
    No dears, that's next year.
The evening was spent with my DIL in fits of laughter, my poor mortified son who couldn't stop apologising, darling mystified Pickle who had spent a busy afternoon at school making me a card with a huge 80 coloured in, and me rubbing my hands gleefully and promising them that they would, indeed, be made to suffer for this.

I'm glad it wasn't just me who had trouble with the forum today. Like mar I am terrified that one day you will all disappear and I won't be able to find you again. I wonder if we should make a contingency plan so that if the worst happens we can all meet up somewhere else. I don't know if that is even possible.

Silvasava, give my love to Greece. Until a couple of years ago we went there every year. Mostly to the island's. I just adore the place and the people. My eldest son is half Greek and knows that he has family out there, but his birth mother has died and she is the only one who could give him any information. He doesn't even have a name to go on.

That's enough for tonight, I'm off to bed. See you tomorrow.

We should definitely formulate a contingency plan. I wouldn't know most of you by names other than forum names and wouldn't know you if I bumped into you in the street, but you're a huge part of my life and I don't think I want to be without that.

Fuddle, there's also a powder treatment for bad lawn grub that gets sprinkled on, and for those with a more organic inclination apparently neem works if it's watered down and soaked in. Time also works (they're only there some of the year in the UK I believe - in Australia they're a year round "treat").

Silva and Softstuff, thanks for the advice. I think you have a very good point about possible grubs being resident because there was definitely 'something' going on before my DH got involved, but it is worse now! I think I'll try and investigate a little into the soil to see if tnere are any grubs (ugh ). Perhaps i should do a rain dance as well!

    Morning all,

    Monna happy not 80th birthday!

OH is driving his commute today as there is another train strike, so he is bound to come in hot and harassed this evening. I shall therefore plan to take my walk today about that time :rotfl: It is extremely windy here and has been for a few days, but gloriously sunny so I will take what I can get.

I've just spotted a pigeon eating our little green cherries off the tree. We didn't get any last year because of this and I expect this year will be no different. A note for when I grow my own fruit trees to choose shorter trees that can be defended :rotfl:
  • FPK one of the houses in this village has a huge cherry tree taking up most of their front garden and every year when the fruit has just set on the tree they cover the whole thing with gardening fleece and anchor it down so that birds can't get into the tree and every year they get a magnificent harvest of beautiful 'nap' cherries (the yellow and red ones). Seems to work as a deterrent for pigeons and you can re-use the fleece year on year so it's an investment that lasts.

We DO need a plan B for staying in touch should anything untoward happen with this bit of MSE, I'm not the least bit technological so have no idea whatsoever how that could be achieved but it must be possible to start a chat site of our own that covers all the bases that these OS boards do under one roof (as it were) and we can inhabit both worlds and NOT lose touch if our 'favourite' threads are deleted or MSE ceases to want us under their roof. We're not a profitable enterprise are we?

Greenbee - great advice! Especially as I'm a 'shoeaholic'!!! I've done swimsuits - only 3 for 10 days - one on, one in the wash and one ready to wear - need some more bits I think ;)
Monna - Many Happies for your birthday - it's my birthday at the weekend - how could two Geminis not be kindred spirits - I'll certainly give your regards to Greece.
I did think the other day that when I pop my clogs no one knows which forums I post on - I do read snippets to DH but he's got no idea other than that. I've met MrsL & Greenbee a while ago but still have yet to meet Monna ( it's still on the agenda Monna)
Off to the local Age Concern this morning - it's my last week as I take a break until September. One of my clients has just started fostering 3 children so she needed help with setting up the documentation and filing system on her laptop. Cannot believe the hoops she has to jump through so much of it seems to be tick box exercises instead of common sense.
Breezy & showery here today - I've a mental picture of MMF sitting in the garden eating worms - sorry ;)
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle

Oh not Martin Luther-style, my diet of Worms? Think I'll take up carbs again, thanks. :rotfl:
