I've slept through Melbourne I'm afraid... woke up for a few hours but was too tired to go out (I know I should have gone for a walk or a swim or been to the gym, but really CBA - I don't sleep on planes and as a result of that and last week wasn't awake enough to do anything) so have done the odd bit of work and intend to go back to sleep again shortly in the hope that I sleep a bit more and wake up at a vaguely civilised time!
Sorry to hear the wedding is causing you problems Hester. I hope everyone else enjoyed it. I was in the air, but the stuff online suggests it went well. And it also sounds as if you're still having lovely weather - I get back on the 31st if anyone wants to prepare for it to change0 -

The local area has been hit with a spate of vandalism, intimidation and thefts.
The local shops have hired security guards, generators have been stolen from boats, we met three boats trying to head away from the trouble, a local boat hire company company had all their boat batteries stolen one night.
There is rumour that the perpetrators will be moving on after this weekend, I hope so as I don't like living in the marina. I'd rather be out on the cut but I'd be vulnerable alone on the boat when CHS is at work and the boat would be vulnerable if left unattended.
Oh heck Hester! I hope the toerags are caught (or at least as you say move on):mad::mad::mad::mad:Must use my stash up!0 -
It's not the Royal wedding causing us problems, it's a local travellers wedding that is causing the problems.
We do still have glorious weather so I'm working on my tan!Chin up, Titus out.0 -
Good evening, Fencers, I am looking to pick your collective brains. We expect OH's CT scan to happen this week sometime so the results will be available when we see his oncologist on May 30th. Whatever the result we are expecting a long haul of treatment. We both have agreed that we will not be visiting the University of Google for information on cancer, as we don't have the time or the energy to sift through all the rubbish on the net in order to find valid research articles. We would rather work with the experts who have years of knowledge and experience in this field and who are well aware of the latest research.
What I will do research-wise is to look into how I can boost OH's diet in order to get his immune system in the optimum condition to fight this illness. Which is where you chaps and chapesses come in. He already takes a multivitamin and mineral tablet, a garlic capsule and a 25 micro gram vit D tablet every day. I make turmeric paste and add it to soups, stews etc.
I am looking for anyone's suggestions for foods that boost immunity, reduce inflammation in the body or, maybe, even have some evidence-based role in fighting cancers. Any suggestions are welcome, I will cobble together a dietary regime that will get him fit as a fiddle (I was going to finish the sentence "even if it kills him" but perhaps not the best choice of words - Black humour, coping mechanisms and all that!)One life - your life - live it!0 -
I would say add a good pro-biotic to his diet. If the immune system is weak, he will benefit.
I had CDiff last year and am still on pro-biotics because my gut needed all the help it could get!0 -
Good thinking...can I get him to try kefir? I have a swig of kefir every morning. One life - your life - live it!0

My Dad has had a couple of rounds of chemo, he stuck with his normal diet (firmly entrenched in the British 1970's, despite living in the sunny Mediterranean
). I read that a low carb diet is supposed to be good for people undergoing cancer treatment. It may be a case of Mr Nargle eating what he feels like. Dad has had different types of chemo, and some has affected him more than others. Nausea and lack of appitite has been a particular problem. He is 84 and was diagnosed with leukaemia 3 or 4 years ago. Something he did take up during his first treatment was qi gong (sp?) which I thought was pretty radical for an 80 year old
. It seems to help his general wellbeing.
Wishing Mr Nargle the best outcome from his treatment.

Cinnamon, but it has to be Ceylon and not cassia. Cassia is what you'd find in the supermarket. But you can get ceylon cinnamon from Amazon
Macmillan online has some guidelines about CBD oil (without having to look up symptoms etc).I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
My MIL was bombarded with advice when she was having chemo, her best advice to anyone undergoing it is to eat whatever they want whenever they want it
I know there are a lot of options (yes apparently low carb is good here too) but whilst we're all hoping chemo goes easily for MrNargle, it might affect his appetite and level of nausea, so just getting some calories in him might be the focus and if that's a bag of crisps and some dairy milk, so be it.

Pineapple is apparently good for chemo patients - and regardless of whether it is good, my dad found that it was one of the things that tasted OK. We also gave it to him chilled or frozen.
You also need to work out how to get enough calories into him when his appetite is reduced while not supplementing with sugars. So lots of good fats.
But overall, as Softstuff says, let him eat what he wants. Appetite will be an issue, and he may not appreciate you fussing about eating more blueberries or whatever when he feels nauseous and his tastebuds are making everything taste odd. Also lots of small snacky meals may help.0
