I didn't watch the wedding, but did have a look at the dress this morning. Whilst I like the simple style, it just didn't really seem fitted to her... more like she got it off the rack at debenhams. I could have done a better job fitting to her bust than that designer, and for a wee bit less than that cost. Anyhoo. They sure did look happy and that's nice.
Food and wine festival was.... mildly disappointing. If you even wanted to taste a wine it was $3. After an hour in there we'd been round everything and I'd tried a few free cheese bits. We paid to try a "slow gin" (like sloe gin but made from australian native plums, very nice), bought a few macadamia nut things and had a free wine with the token we got on entry. Matt Preston was giving a demonstration which seemed to consist of pantomime audience participation (not a fan of the chap) and the other demonstration I fancied was impossible to get into the location of because it was in the producers tent and allowed access to about 20 people in a crowd of thousands.
People certainly seemed to be enjoying it all though, but I think many were there to see and be seen and they were willing to be spending $12-24 per glass of wine, in order to drink it in what is essentially for us normally public parkland. All of this, and if I hadn't had tickets given, it would have been $40 per person entry. Yikes. We left at lunch, had a low carb burger not far from there (we weren't the only ones in there), then went back in, wandered a bit and by unanimous consent, decided we were done. We walked back to the main shopping area, made a picnic with a few supermarket meats and cheeses and went to see Deadpool 2 instead :rotfl:Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
Housework done, 2 loads of washing done, big chuck-out of old paperwork and random Stuff, checked on winter clothes (decided to keep them all but will pass on a blanket I no longer need), replaced broken castor on my 'new' antique footstool, tidied art stash but it was actually in good order.
I also checked what jewellery I might wear to Dad's memorial event. I rarely wear any jewellery, except a watch and my wedding ring, but ages ago dad bought me a lovely silver necklace with an interesting silver pendant so I shall wear that along with my very lovely white-gold and aquamarine ring (a gift to my mum from a dear friend, now passed to me). We are all dressing up because we are celebrating dad's life and having a gathering of his friends and our family. In a weird way we are all looking forward to it.
Well enough rambling, must go. DH has just got back from his parents' and is a bit uptight because he worked his socks off yet they seemed disappointed he didn't get more done! He has just flopped down and said he is having tomorrow as a rest day no matter what.I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.0 -
We had a lovely day yesterday, went out on the bike and popped in to visit youngest son. His wife is English and was watching the wedding although she isn't really into the royals, so I saw the dress. I thought it was lovely - nice and plain and elegant, much nicer than Kate's. Then I got bored with that and went out to play with some gorgeous baby ferrets. Then I got ice cream on the way home lol. Life can hold no more than baby fergits and a turkish delight cone0

Mar, that sounds like a lovely day!
Sunny again here. I am planning on finishing the re-arrangement of my multipurpose room (it measures 8'6" x 6'6" and has to perform many roles in our 2-up, 2-down home), then i shall sit in the garden and listen to the birdsong
Oooh, I see that Meghan has a ring just like my aquamarine one!
Hardly any difference except mine is the miniature version :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.0 -
That sounds like a perfect day Mar. I went to Liverpool yesterday with the HT so we could have lunch out for my birthday. I watched the wedding on youtube when we came home so I could just forward through the boring bits. I liked that the dress was simple and elegant. Today is going to be garden day if the weather holds. The grass needs cutting and the shed and the fences need painting.0

We have moved on to the marina a for a couple of days, hiding.
The local area has been hit with a spate of vandalism, intimidation and thefts.
The local shops have hired security guards, generators have been stolen from boats, we met three boats trying to head away from the trouble, a local boat hire company company had all their boat batteries stolen one night.
There is rumour that the perpetrators will be moving on after this weekend, I hope so as I don't like living in the marina. I'd rather be out on the cut but I'd be vulnerable alone on the boat when CHS is at work and the boat would be vulnerable if left unattended.Chin up, Titus out.0 -
CRANKY Happy birthday for yesterday! I hope you had a nice lunch.
Hester Oh dear, so sorry to hear about the trouble going on locallyWe're having a spate of frail elderly people being intimidated on their own doorsteps and, in the case of one friend, her house being broken into while she was watching TV! She'd just come back from a few months abroad (she's from Sri Lanka and has a house there) and it's thought the thieves (who were dressed as policemen, would you believe ) thought the house was still unoccupied. This used to be a really nice place to live, too!

Mar that sounds like a perfect day. A pity you can't bottle it.
nursemaggie, it is so good to hear you making positive plans for your future. There will always be difficulties, that's life, but it sounds as though you are already thinking through possible problems.
MMF I have a ring like that too. It came out of a Christmas cracker and my DGS gave it to me announcing that we were now married "for ever and ever." I bet it is more precious to me than Meghan's is.
Cranky, lovely way to celebrate your birthday. I have one on the near horizon and am spending the day with friends and the evening with family. I think It is the last birthday I will admit to as the next one makes me officially antique.
No, no! It's not the centenary but uncomfortably ancient.
Hester, that sounds pretty frightening. You don't associate crime with boats and waterways but with the batteries being so expensive I suppose it is tempting to the underworld.
All is well in my world. I got stuck into my book until the early hours with the result that I didn't wake up until gone 9 this morning. Have brought my breakfast back to bed and plan nothing more strenuous than a shower and a bit more reading today. The joys of living by yourself!
THOUGHT FOR SUNDAY
Our prayers may be awkward. Our attempts may be feeble. But since the power of prayer is in the one who hears it and not in the one who says it, our prayers do make a difference. (Max Lucado)I believe that friends are quiet angels

Crime isn't usually a problem on the cut but there is currently a huge influx of visitors attending a local wedding.Chin up, Titus out.0
