Is Dockie related to Manuel from Faulty Towers? Makes me think of that accent! He sounds like another lovely character and is obviously very affectionate and loyal. Cheered me up no end!

Today I have a late start at work so I need to get on with a few chores before I go. The house is clean and fairly tidy ;) except the multipurpose room which is still a bit cluttered.
I did manage to excavate a small rug to put on our LR carpet where the main traffic goes. When we had the carpet laid 9 years ago I got the off-cuts bound and we use them to protect the areas of highest wear. I have another rug to replace in the bedroom but need some of that stuff that stops them 'walking'.
Oh I feel all :money: :rotfl:

I have ordered DH a birthday pressie - a tee-shirt with his business name on the back! He has no logos or names on his work clothes but this looked so good I couldn't resist. He doesn't advertise anymore because he has all the work he can manage (in fact he was hoping to have a bit less this year but his customers are loyal and he won't let them down by 'sacking' any!).

I am contemplating painting a picture for him, too, but my art is very hit and miss (more misses than hits, tbh :rotfl:) and I have a lot of commitments in the 10 days till his birthday. Hmm, I think I will try and find a decent photo of some scenery he likes and see if I can sketch in perspective. That would be a start!

Hope everyone slept well, thanks Monna!
Good to hear from u Burtha. You are doing brilliantly x

Newbies, come along, post away
I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.

Morning All - just trying to catch up - thanks for the sardine & bacon butty's Monna ;) I do love your tablet - have you named it? Maybe Mrs Malaprop?
Good to hear from you Burtha - we worry when we dont have a post from you.
Mrs L - I know we've just had Easter but does Docky know its not him who's supposed to be resurrected?
Grey day here so going to do some baking - chicken & mushroom pie from leftovers and a bread pudding utilising a very elderly jar of mincemeat found lurking in the back of the cupboard - didn't bother to look for the use by date - smelt OK so its going in!!
NM - I SO want you to find a nice peaceful home in a convenient area as do the rest of us - think we need to harness our powers chums!
    Karcher - you've been quiet - hope you're OK
I'm sure I've missed many who need virtual hugs today ,I do hope there is a glimmer of light for you.
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle

Well having sorted it a bit and seen the flats that the council seem to have nominated me for I think I am bound to end up in that area as I have found six of them all within a few minutes walk of each other and all grouped round a park.

With Googles way of updating street view you can see the same street looking very different from different angles angles. Ah I thought a Co-op. Go round the corner and it is Macauls. I can't spell that. Our nearest what was Co-op turned into Macauls a few months back.

One thing I can say is there is no shortage of sheltered housing. I guess I have to take into consideration the rents. The council one I have been nominated for is £65 a week and the one I registered for last night is £139 a week. That is a lot of money for a one bed flat. To put it in perspective this one is £86 a week. You would think Housing Associations would be quoting monthly by now. No one gets paid weekly these days.

Talking about when you are paid. I often get asked on surveys when pay day is. Well AA is paid 4 weekly, HB is paid 4 weekly but both on different dates and of course they move around the month. My State Pension is also 4 weekly on a different day too. My work Pension is on 25th of the month but of course that moves according to where in the week it falls. I have noticed than some months I get paid as much a 7 times and others only 3. That's why it is so ridiculous that they count every penny in your current account as savings.

We could have chicken and mushroom pie too or chicken and ham.

Lovely to see you Burtha, I hope you can reach a financial agreement and the house sells quick, the faster you move on from that prize knob the better. I heard something lovely on a comedy show that fit me and might you, divorce papers are like a diploma, you really have learned some things and you've graduated. I don't know if it will help you for sleep, but I've been taking a magnesium and valerian combo half an hour before bed (apparently easing anxiety before sleep), switching off all blue light an hour before, trying not to drink alcohol within 4 hours of bed and having a very cool bedroom. After much research, they were the best ideas I had.

MMF007, I for one would love to see your art some time :)

Hester, where does CHS come up with all these daft ideas?? I think you need to keep his mind otherwise occupied. Maybe sudoku? Or nudie games :D

Nursemaggie, I haven't uncrossed anything I've had crossed for you yet! It seems such a difficult search for you. Maybe you're right about being a touch further away from your DS, give him a bit of space.

Now, because I care so much for your wellbeing Monnagran and Islandmaid, I made stir fry tonight. Look away Mardatha, there's veg. Chicken, brussel sprouts, courgettes, beansprouts and mushrooms with your seasonings. And walla as they say on t'internet:

I knew I forgot something. MMF007 talking about your rugs, you reminded me of an Aunt I had. She would buy a new carpet, cut the old one up and bind the edges. Then she would cover the carpet in the old bits where the heavy traffic was plus a huge hearth rug then she put all the furniture back. When she had finished you could not see the new carpet. It would emerge 20 years later from under all the mats full of holes. Take it from me it does not stop them wearing out underneath the rug.

She also had a big roll of felt with a leatherette top on it which went on the table, she wrapped off cuts from it round the legs to stop us kids from kicking the table legs, an old bedspread went over my uncles chair so he did not mark it when he came in from work, he was a lorry driver and often came in with oil on his overalls. He had to have newspaper over the tablecloth so he did not mark it.

After he had his tea he went and got washed and changed. Then he had to stand on newspaper to take his overalls off. She then put them is a bucket of soapy water. He had to have clean overalls every day. I will think of you as Auntie Rene from now on.

Welcome, Silver oldie, you really are amongst friends. The week my dad was diagnosed and the long, long night when he died (at 7 in the morning), this thread kept me going. So many people thinking of me and rooting for me - it helped more than anyone knows (or has to find out IYSWIM).

I am so snowed under with work atm - so many interviews to do, transcribe and code, which is a lovely position to be in but a bit overwhelming.
I wanna be in the room where it happens

Polly. I'll have you know that Docky and I came to an understanding ages ago. He spelled words as the spirit moved and I threw away my red biro.
And here I though Docky had chewed up the red biro!! :rotfl: Lovely to hear from our dear Lurcha again. :o

I couldn't leave without telling silver-oldie that she may phone the Samaritans if she needs to chat, although I know she said she doesn't like using a phone. There may be an email address though.
    There is. It's jo@samaritans.org
I have used it myself on occasions.

Oh - just to make Hester jealous, I am currently sharing my bed with three blokes. (Don't tell her that two of them have four legs, a tail and fur).
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)

I did a blog post once about wanting a 3some, 1 man to steer the boat and 1 to do the locking. Then I could sit and read and drink a G&T!6
    Chin up, Titus out.
