DH took me to the hospital this morning - our main road was clear so no problem. Just not used to having to be up and out before 8am!!
I've been diagnosed with atrial fibrillation so after umpteen ECG's with various sticky pads all over me and an ultrasound they've given me tablets to thin my blood and slow my heart down - more tabs - big sigh! Bette Davis was right when she said old age aint for sissies.
Monna - I'm absolutely fuming that anyone would be rude to the guys that have voluntarily turned out to help people in distress at sea.
I'm chuckling over Millie though - many years ago I did some batch baking for Christian Aid week - the next evening DH asked where the tea loaf was that I'd made - he's still not forgotten (or forgiven me!) As he says charity begins at home lol
Well I'm thinking of playing the invalid (which I'm not) for the rest of the day as there's a very nice bottle of red that's got its eye on me - be rude not to ;)
Snowing here again but nowhere near like Maratha is getting so stay safe and warm chums x

So far CHS has been covered in poo, twiddle and cold water, this is of course all my fault. If I an a widow before the day is out it will not be my fault!!!

Hester - bucket and chuck it? Then he can do the poo run ;)

I made scones! :j In fact I made 2 batches.

Haven't made scones for years but DH was concerned we were running low on bread-type products. DH had stepped out of the door to get coal but he decided the wind chill was so bad he was not going to walk down to the village for bread!

So out came the trusted Dairy Diary from about 1986 and off I went. Cheese scones (my very favourite) and honey & cinnamon scones (never made those before, used some yogurt in them as well). DH thinks the honey and cinnamon ones are delish, esp after he spread butter and honey on one!!
It was horrendously windy last night and we were up for 2 hours because we couldn't sleep through the battering. A neighbour has lost slates from roof, 6 massive peices of hoarding from a building site have blown down and there's a road closed due to fallen tree in next village. However, much of the snow has blown away :rotfl:
Some roads look passable but I have only seen one vehicle moving, everyone who can do is staying indoors.
I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.

I have the 1977 version of the Dairy Diary with edits by my Nan, I love it :D

I have made Nigella brownies today for the menfolk - to be honest it was an excuse to get some alone time, they talked all the way through Masterchef when I was watching it

how long is this snow malarkey going to go on :rotfl::rotfl:

Silvasava you and me both my friend. I'll tell you in a mo but I'm so relieved you got to your appointment. Obviously when I've been waffling about my heart you've been having your own issues. Onward and upward silva, onwards and upwards.

Those of you who have been helping me on the winter prep thread these few days will know I've been having some chest pain. I got to the GP today. No pneumonia, no bronchitis. Me chest is beautifully silent. The GP I saw was new to me but a really excentric old guy. He said that enough was enough with the investigations. He can see I have had periods of anxiety, that my heart is poorly and that my heart rate thinks it's running all the time. I'm now on beta blockers to slow my heart rate down and that will help with the anxiety too.

So progress. Personally I still think I have a little something on my chest so will keep up with my herbal/aromatherapy approach but I noticed the pain subsided as I was sitting in the pharmacy.

Silva what have they given you to slow yours down? I've been warned I shall have a chilled out night. I'm not taking it until DH gets home as I have 2 children 'ere and I'm scared.

Fuddle - I've been given Beta blockers and a blood thinner (not Warfarin) I'm beginning to think I was lucky to start some treatment before any potential issues.
No chest pain - just racing heart and a feeling of indigestion at the time but all calmed down now :) Do hope you get sorted too X

Ps: Accidentally turned on my speech to text while I was talking to DH - Mrs L came out as Mrs Archibald Walker lol!!

DS did not get home until 4.30 pm so has been out 13 hours was later yesterday as not everyone is going in. The local minibuses that take them to work were cancelled today. They were not told. It was announced on the local newspaper website at 8.35 am. Not much use if you have to set off walking to it at 3 am. He is relieved he now has 3 days off. He will probably have to have a taxi again next week. It's £10 each way for the taxi.

Our snow has blown away except in the back yard where the wind does not reach the ground I expect it is on the hills or maybe in Yorkshire.

silva & fuddle hope you are both sorted with the tablets. I was surprised how low my blood pressure was yesterday. I bet it wasn't buy the time I got home.

I think this snow and cold is here for a couple of weeks yet, at least for Scotland. I think too that this is a handy reminder that life isn't all about lifting a finger to have Sainsbugs or Waitrose bring one's shopping to one's kitchen. Weather is getting more extreme everywhere and we need to look after ourselves and our families ;)
I need some bl00dy cake. I am getting severely cake-deprived. I think I'll go and drool over the BBC cooking site.
