Still, the positives are that Monday morning as as soon as possible. They're not hanging around with your house. It's the Mrs who is in the driving seat and I think that's a positive in itself ;)

I need your help please ladies. I want to make the honey & cinnamon scones somebody mentioned. I only have plain flour but have bicarb and baking powder. Is it possible to make scones this way? Never made them before cos I don't really like them, but honey & cinnamon sounds so nice and I've got it in the house..

Recipe, slightly adapted from Dairy Diary:

Heat oven to gas mark 8! 230°C (less for fan ovens but not stated in my old recipe book)

    8oz (225g) self raising flour
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    3/4 level teaspoon cinnamon
    2oz (50g) butter
2 tablespoon honey, slightly warmed to allow easy mixing
3 tablespoons plain yogurt, made up to 1/4 pint with milk

Seive flour, add salt and cinnamon.
Stir warmed honey into milk/yoghurt mixture.
    Stir liquid into dry ingredients.
Lightly knead, just to bring the ingredients together.

Roll out to about 2cms thick on a floured board.

Cut as desired. I never bother with a cutter, just cut rectangles at a jaunty angle (parallelogram scones!). I cut 10 out.

Lightly grease baking tray and arrange scones.

Cook for 10 or 11 minutes only. They will be cooked in that short time.

    Cool on wire rack.

Serve with more butter and honey :D

Thank you Lyn, and I hope the viewing goes well when you're able to do it :)

pollyanna So glad to see you back! I was wondering how you and DD were. So sorry about the ME crash :( I hope your lovely DD will soon be on the long road to recovery, bless her heart. I want to thank you for the link you posted to the Mind website. I now realise why my late brother was so "difficult", poor man. I tried a couple of times to gently suggest he'd benefit from some counselling, but he had no insight at all and insisted he was fine, so of course he just got worse!

I made the scones and they turned out really light and nice. And I looked out of the window to see a clear black road and a John Deere sitting at my gate - the cavalry have arrived!

Did you offer any to the tractor driver?

And I thought you said you couldn't cook.

MMF007 I am interested in having a home help. Have you any idea how I could contact someone like you? I don't want to pay over £20 an hours through an agency, for the home help to be only paid minimum pay. If I get a good one I would rather pay them more.

NM, I wish I lived nearer to you so I could help!
Try looking on your local facebook page, you can also ask on there for recommendations.
You could get DH to ask if any of his colleagues' partners are home helps / cleaners? Also check the local newsagents for folks advertising their services.

I am insured and have a fairly recent DBS (prev known as CRB) check to show I have no criminal record. I also have business insurance for my car.

I do need to increase my hourly rate because round here the independant self emplyd rate seems to be between £13 and £15/hour for 2 hours or more. Anyone wanting just an hour, starts at £15/hr.. Agencies are charging £18-£22/hr  Beware that many agencies have minimum contracts of a couple of months with a month's notice.

I don't have a DH he is my youngest son and I was aged 48 when he was born. Most of his fellow workers are fairly young. All but one lives 7 to 10 miles away some even further.

I do not belong to facebook and have no intention of doing so. I will have to look in my local paper.

I found out on Thursday that the doctor I saw the last time, lied to me. I just saw my nurse this time. She said my cancer was stable the same as last time. That was not what she told me, she said it was clear. I now know what I have continued to feel really ill most of the time for the last year.

By the time I get back into the centre of Manchester after my appointments I usually feel like the people you see struggling to the end of a marathon. Every step after that means I have to summon up a huge amount of effort just to take one step. People keep stopping me and asking if I am alright. They have suggested I go back on transport but if they come for me at 7 am for a 3.30 pm appointment it is no better and I still don't get back until between 9 and 10 pm. being picked up at 7 am means I get there an hour before the hospital opens and well before the first clinic. I don't want to sit in a waiting room for 12 hours.

We are looking at a semi tomorrow. I think it is too expensive because I don't think we will get it. I think we stand a better chance with a terrace house at £100 a month cheaper.

NM I'm so sorry to read this . A nurse should not be giving out information on such a serious condition whether true or not . I can understand hospital transport is not helpful to you and will make things more difficult than they are already .
Like everyone here I wish you and your son restful sleep , peace of mind and a warm fit for purpose home as soon as possible . I keep hoping the amount of love , support and sheer wanting that to happen for you both on this thread will make a difference . Monna excels at Storming Heavens Gates , my dd and I can confirm that . Sorry dearest Monna but you may have to go on 24/7 shifts for a while . We'll will you on when we've had our sleep quota .
