Maybe that's what has been wrong fuds, you've been running on a treadmill constantly and you're worn oot :)
I need your help please ladies. I want to make the honey & cinnamon scones somebody mentioned. I only have plain flour but have bicarb and baking powder. Is it possible to make scones this way? Never made them before cos I don't really like them, but honey & cinnamon sounds so nice and I've got it in the house..
  • Self Raising flour is only plain flour with baking powder added to it. For every 8oz of flour add in 2 x rounded teaspoons of baking powder and you have self raising flour fine for scones cakes etc. Go To It!!!

Found out from the neighbour that the access road into the village from the A7 is blocked by abandoned cars, so the cavalry ain't coming anytime soon. There is a back road with some really big houses inc one huge semi-castle/country house that's converted to flats, and a lot of people use that road, the cars must be theirs I think. And neighbour saw the Mountain Rescue landrover getting stuck at the top of our street which I thought very funny. I know. I'm bad.

I have a scone question as well!

I too am fancying making scones today (Thanks MMF :D) for the first time in more years than i care to think about. I hadn't been feeling up to much baking for a long time, so I have SR flour but it's slightly past its BBE date - November 2017. Would it be wise to add a little baking powder or bicarb (I have both), especially as i shall probably be using a mixer to do the rubbing-in?

I now know I only need to stock plain flour and baking powder. :D thanks for asking the question mar and thanks for the answer Lyn. Every day is a school day.

Mar that's what the GP said. He said I was a 'knackered madam'.

You know I've been talking about my Dad's sisters and renewing our relationships since mam died? Well one lives in Devon who has come up a couple of times to see me and sister and the other lives in Tenerife who I've seen more as she visits her son who lives in the next village up. She has sold her Tenerife house and moving back to the village at the end of the month. I'm excited to have family!! near by but also very scared because it's a new relationship and I tend to muck new relationships/friendships up somehow. But happiness leads. I didn't know I had family living near me when we settled here. Life is so uncanny really. What will be, will be eh?

Now, today is the day we should be taking our caravan to be permanently sited in South West Scotland. I'm not well enough anyway but the caravan is snowed in and I'm grumpy. Fingers crossed for next week because I'm yearning for woodland walks!

Think I'm back as me finally .

Only read your last post Fuds but I'm so glad the family connections are coming together .
You and I can learn together how to relax . I've had the ME/CFS crash the Dr has been warning could happen once things were sorted so I need to start learning to slow down where possible .
I'll catch up on what you've all been up to as I'm totally out of the loop .Take care all and stay warm if you can everyone .

fuddle do tell your aunt you are excited to have a relative near. That will be a big help in a lasting relationship.

Glad to see you back polly.
  • Flour use by's are only a guide and November is not so long ago that it will have spoiled. It will be fine as is, no need to add in anything that is a raising agent just use it as is.

Sadly our second viewing is postponed until Monday morning as the ladys OH is marooned in Scotlandshire and the planes won't be out of his airport until tomorrow, poor laddy. The estate agent contacted us first thing full of apologies which are really not needed, it's bad weather all over and no ones fault. They have promised to ring if anyone else wants to view today or tomorrow but it's still very snowy outside and I think folks will wait for it to go before decising on viewing houses.
