Yay! I've had the email to confirm that my bid bought the table. Total cost, inc fees, £76 :D
It's criminal really, isn't it - something of such quality being cheaper than mass-produced pine stuff?

it is criminal...brown furniture no matter how high quality and worth a small fortune in years gone by, is now bought for/worth peanuts and painted/'distressed' white..heart breaking imho :(

Well done on your purchase..please treasure it, it will be worth a small fortune again in a few years time ;)

I absolutely loathe anything brown, n nearly had apoplexy when my DD brought me the last heated throw from ALDI, n it was brown :rotfl:

Well done on your purchase MMF007, everything comes to those who wait!

I admire the beauty of 'brown' furniture but it is usually too big for modern homes. I have to admit to painting some of it, saves getting rid of it and gives it a new lease of life. Please forgive me!

Pine is my bugbear, it changes colour over the years and usually ends up orange.

camelot Yes, we now have orange bedside cabinets, sigh.

So pleased for you about the table MMF :j

It's very wet out there this morning, but I have wellies with sheepskin insoles :):):)

Poor OH fell out of bed this morning - I suppose he was turning over, not realising how close he was to the edge of the bed! He banged his eye socket on the corner of the bedside cabinet so he's going to have a real shiner :( We have arnica cream though.

Oh ivyleafOuch! Poor DH. I bet you were both a bit shaken up when it happened.

My DH left early this morning, going to garden at his mum's. He won't be back till about 8.30pm cos his mum insists he stays for tea and it's an hour n a half drive back.
I have asked him to take it easy tomorrow because he has been working too hard for a while and really needs to take it easy.

While he is away I have been cooking up a storm!
2 different soups, made with HM chicken stock.
Chicken breast stuffed with apricot and almond sausagemeat (some will be sliced and frozen for quick low carb lunches).
Have labelled all the marmalade and found a little space in a cupboard.
Shall be making low carb 'lasagne' in a few minutes, with enough to freeze as ready meals.

Just enjoying the sun streaming in after a very rainy night.
I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.

Get ready to hide your eyes Mar. Low carb lasagne is where the pasta is removed and vegetables are placed in the layers instead. Using thin slices of courgette is one way.

I'm sorry that Mr Ivyleaf took a roll out of bed Ivyleaf. Crikey, it must have hurt and been a shock for both of you.

mardattha it is the meat, passata, herbs n garlic mixture as normal (with lots of veggies added of course :)) but instead of pasta use a layer of courgette, then top with cheese, or a cheese sauce thickened with potato starch as opposed to wheat flour. Yes, I know potato starch is still carbs but apparently t is more acceptable than wheat, no idea why and even the passata must be used sparingly if you on the harshest stages of a low carb weight loss diet.

I have lost 5 lbs in 2 weeks, nothing drastic, but well on the way to losing the stone that is my next target. The diet obviously suits me and I can stick to it. I am not always so strict and can go weeks just maintaining my weight, eating a few processed carbs (but not too many), then I take a rigourous approach, reducing carbs largely to just those in veg and nuts (not root veg though, of course). I ocassionally, very ocassionaly, eat a slice of wholemeal toast, or have a small portion of baked beans.
I can eat bacon and eggs for breakie, so,what's not to like :D

It's weird because I can honestly say I never feel really hungry on this diet yet the weight goes down. I did a quick estimate one day and actually, although doubters call it a low carb high fat diet, one does not actually eat that many calories if sticking to the rules! Quick eg, a 2 egg omlette with 2 slices of cheese grilled on top, less than 350 cals at most. Keeps me going until 1 or 1.30pm and I have an active job!

ETA- Fuddle is much more concise than I am! Spot on. Sorry about mentioning the V word Mar.
I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.

MMF007 That is the diet I aspire to as I know it works. Unfortunately, after being on a diet for the last 60+ years one does get awfully fed up with it. I cannot lose weight unless I eat so little that I am hungry all the time. I know all the arguments about filling up with vegetables but I put on weight if I breathe too deeply.
Just one of those tricks a spiteful mother-nature plays.

I don't seem to have achieved much at all today, for all my grand intentions. I hate wasted days but sometimes I can't seem to get motivated. Do you think old age is really kicking in?

Anyway, I have written the day off and will try harder tomorrow. The words of my grandmother echo in my brain, "You will never get today again my girl. Make the most of it."

    THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
