    I have toothache.

Hester why are you not allowed deliveries? How exactly is one expected to furnish their floating home?

Pleased to hear mifi-gate was finally resolved.

Briefly dropping in. I completely misread Hesters post and saw that she'd spent the entire first retirement week having rumpy pumpy. I can hardly be blamed.

At work they've hired a new manager (who will start whenever she gets a contract), this may well drop my hours to a day a week (because I've sort of been covering the days she'll be doing) so we'll see. Rather than be sensible and save money, I've gone out and just bought things I want :o I've been rather sensible for a long time and this time I'm preferring to act like a teenager. But, I'll have nice new PJs and undies and decent wallpaper when I'm underemployed again.

    Ho well.

Glad you're on the mend Nursemaggie, hope your DS's tendonitis eases soon.

Well, I'm scooting. Going out for dinner, and spending money while I have it! love to all xx

Maybe that’s why companies won’t deliver - they won’t go a knocking when the boats a rocking :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Why let the truth get in the way of a good story :D
Note to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!

  • Karcher, the rules regarding living on a narrowboat are complicated.

One reason for the ban on deliveries is because this implies that the boat is residential.

Very few marinas in our area offer residential moorings because that would involve council tax etc, so you can leave your boat in the Marina full time as long as it is unoccupied or as long as you only stay on board three days at a time maximum.

If you live on your boat you are only allowed in the Marina for three days at a time.
The problem is that there is no explanation about how long one must be off the marina, this is compounded by some managers/owners turning a blind eye to people living aboard and some charging a high usage premium.

We do move our boat off the marina though possibly not as often as we should, we also pay council tax albeit on our house.

There are about a dozen people on the marina who for various reasons cannot move their boat and so they cannot comply with the marina rules.

I've been doing the same lately SS, ie spending and buying. After a lifetime of scrimping and scraping, I decided that I don't know how much longer I'll be here, or the RV will be here, and I decided to buy myself nice things while I can.
Not loads of clothes/shoes/fripperies, just a few good quality items then moved onto the household stuff. Good lightweight warm bedding, good comfy wool mattress, good carpets and new energy saving appliances. Now onto the decorating. Which is only painting over woodchip and going very slowly cos we both knackered!
I do feel very guilty still when I buy myself wool or books - but having watched the RV over the years spending whatever he wants when he wants to, on his cars & bikes, I am learning fast ;) Sure as Fate whenever I saved up some money he would have an emergency with the car and I'd have to give him it..
  • Lol. We do still rock the boat a lot but usually because I'm staggering about under the weight of the coal bucket.

Good for you, Softstuff and mar :T

Nice to see you're back nannywindow :)

Well, I washed the sofa cushion covers yesterday and they've come out looking lovely, so this morning I set about putting the main cover in the washing machine. It only just squeezed in, so I used less detergent than usual, but it was still too much....the machine went on strike because of all the suds

I managed to get the sofa cover out, baled (sp?) out the suds from the drum and am now putting the machine through several rinse & spin cycles. The sofa cover will have to be hefted upstairs in the washing basket, to be rinsed in the bath. As Craig Revel-Horwood might well say, "A bit of a disaaaaster, daaaaahling."

On the plus side, the kitchen floor is lovely and clean :D
