Silva I think I put in 45 plants last year. My goal is to have enough to eat and make a year's supply of jam so there is a very large bed doing all that producing, cut your row some slack
. I trimmed runners that were going to exceed the boundaries of the bed, but the rest were left so there are a lot of plants. They're really just getting going and there are still lots of green fruits. I think at least some of these plants are early croppers so maybe yours will provide a bowlful soon!
Everything is netted and the nets are pinned down with tent pegs and large stones and clipped together over the top. We've had a few breaches--notably blackbirds. The squirrels have tried but mostly just end up bouncing on the net like a trampoline. A rabbit paid a visit and left droppings but there was no evidence the rabbit was able to breach the nets. Any berries that get a bit mouldy, have ant or slug damage etc. get 'donated' to the wildlife in another part of the garden but that doesn't seem to satisfy them!

Is the fence going to stand if we get strong winds?
Good news here - the lab result is back - no asbestos in our fascias - work booked in for July.
Feel tired today after going out twice yesterday - had a lie in - Mr F had one too as I was pinning him to the bed.
More hats finished.

Phew, I finally have a reasonable Wi-Fi signal again as we've moved. We are close to a supermarket and the High Street. I've made a few suggestions of shops of like to visit but my little day of gloom thinks this.means I stand outside the shops while he goes in!Chin up, Titus out.10

You lot are shocking!
(When's the next shocking social?)
I made strawberry jam today as strawberries on the market stall seemed pretty cheap. 9 jars of jam for £6.60 and it's lurvely! Just as nice as the French good mother type and very easy. I normally make marmalade but I haven't made jam for years and I had forgotten how much less work it is than marmaladeIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!10 -

MingVase said:I hereby officially deny having et or stuffed any waiters, hot or cold!Do you remember when you were asking for advice on cooking Lamb and I told you and mentioned Mary Berry's book of Meat Cookery would be a good buy? A while later you complained there were no instructions for cooking Heffalumps. She didn't mention waiters either but I doubt that would stop you. Methinks thou doth protest too much. Always a sign of a guilty concience. Thanks for the birthday wishes NRA. I can send you some hot weather in exchange for your rain. It's been unusually hot and sunny here in the NW. I've been watching the England game and think it was a bit unwise to sing Sweet Caroline loudly at the end. Always liked Neils songs but I've overdone the singing. Rain would be good at the moment.Strawberries are a little confusing at the moment. Mine are doing well. Growers and farmers locally too. However our Coop shop hadn't had any local ones in when I did a quick shop there last week. They normally source locally when available. but so far it's been Fife and then Perthshire. Same with the tiny tomatoes they're Spain at the moment but both the growers here and myself have heavy crops. No idea what that's about. It costs a lot more to import from Spain than a few miles away.pollyxIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.
There but for fortune go you and I.8
