Gosh, that has been a long time Polly! Yes, we're settled into the new home and slowly making our way through renovations and bringing the garden back to life. Each year we save up for another 'big' house project. Last year was the roof, this year is windows.
Work and the house keep me pretty busy and the periodic ruffled feathers we used to get on the board started to get a bit wearing but I do sometimes miss talking about OS things!
Hester, I hope you've got wellies!10 -
Bit late but I hope you have alovely time with your nephew VJ. Along with the house improvementsyou've had sad and stressful times recently. It's lovely and sunny here in the NW today so Ihope the sun shines for you and you can take time just for you and your nephew. We don't really get the nasty trolls anymore FPK. They seem to have found another bridge to lurk under. A good roof and windows are well worth saving for. You'll get things done bit by bit. I'm not one for debt so over the years have saved hard for various house things and it's nice not to be worrying about paying off debt.I've found this year despite some very cold and windy weather the garden is very productive. Tomatoes, Strawberries and herbs in particular are providing a bumper crop.Do you still sew? I still do when I have the time. I can't remember if it was you I mentioned the Dottie Angel blog to She made lots of simple but quirky dresses and skirts.pollyxIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.

See? You don't need me at all really. You are well able to keep this dear old thread going on your own.
However, I have a morning off today. David's cleaning lady is making her weekly visit. She is pleased that every week a bit more floor has been discovered. There is still a long way to go, I have yet to open one of the four packed-to-the-gunnels wardrobes and somehow dispose of the mountains of contents.
Cupboards and drawers are still an unknown hazzard and my brain goes into melt-down when I think of them.
We are hoping that the Coroner will issue a death certificate soon so that we can organise a funeral, that David is still planning to to take himself. It is the last thing he can do for his beloved, and he is determined to do it.
I'm sorry if I have nothing interesting to tell you, but my life is a bit strange at the moment.
However.......the TFTD goes on.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Compassion is so often the solution.I believe that friends are quiet angels
Who lift us to our feet when our wings
Have trouble remembering how to fly.15 -
Lovely to see you monna and a much missed thought for the day. I'm glad you're still standing after all the lifting and shifting you must be exhausted.I think it's very fitting David will see his darling of 77 years to her final rest.it wont heal his pain but it will help him in time towards some healing to know he was with her at the very end . You mentioned he was a wonderful speaker and who better to conduct the funeral than the one who'd been with her during those long years. With the clothes and other things are any suitable for the charity shops? I know you're a bit off the beaten track but some charities will collect. You could just put them in bin bags as you sort them out . If the upstairs neighbour is still helping he might move them outside if they are being collected. You probably know some charities collect clothes unsuitable for sale but provide income by being sold as rag for recycling. If you find a charity they may take both just label the bags for rag.Don't worry about this old Fence we wont let it disappear . Try and get your feet up when you can and remember This Too Shall Pass. If youngest was here she'd mention the Kidney Stone!Look after yourself as much as possible.pollyxIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.

I was thinking about Hester yesterday (whilst putting a raised bed together). Not digging atm (probably later in the week). One raised bed in place, second nearly complete - it was gone 8 pm and my hands were finding it harder and harder to keep turning the screwdriver. The raised beds were the peak of yesterday's achievements - I just had to finsh of sorting some piles of soil and stones, move things (including two large tables - the beds are 8' long so I needed both tables end to end to accommodate them for working). One table had to be separated from the A frame of the old broken garden swing, so the mattress cover is now over that (been outside since the washing line broke as I was trying to get the cover across it).
Sponging all the marks off the mattress cover and tackling the end of the shed that was blocked by one of the tables are on this weeks list. The soil needs scraping away from the bottom of the shed, side needs painting (two sides get a lot more sun than the front and other end), second layer if necessary, the slat at the top needs gently tapping back into place and then a piece of strong mesh will be stapled on and the 4 courgettes in large buckets will be set to climb up it. The first rose I take out of the bed (back to digging) will go there as well). It's light pink with touches of salmon and will look good against the mid blue background of the shed (and can be seen all the way to the gate).
Think I'll lie here and think for a bit longer, my arms, hands and shoulders are still complaining (I woke before 5 but nodded off again at 7).My mission in life is not only to survive, but to thrive and to do so with some Passion, some Compassion, some Humour and some Style.NST SEP No 1 No Debt No mortgage7 -

OOH the thread is revving up! It's funny how threads go quiet or change character but this one roars back into life every now and then - usually with a wild party
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!8 -

She's been the party person recently.mothernerd I'm trying to figure out the connection between Hester and raised beds. Mind you we never did find out if she ever got her longed for Pink suede corset. Can't you try and take it easy for a day or two? You are pushing yourself too hard. Sometimes you need to take a break and do the pacing thing, we're all guilty of pushing on regardless but boy do we pay for it later.pollyxIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.

Polly yes, I still sew although more slowly since the garden has taken priority. We're fortunate to be able to save up relatively quickly and without hardship. Once we've done exterior stuff (roof and windows) we'll start on the inside and then the fun will begin. We haven't really done anything inside, bar painting on particularly grubby room, because we're planning to re-rewire. Once that is done the fun, pretty stuff can come into it.
Mothernerd, I love pink roses on a pale blue background.
As for the connection between Hester and raised beds, surely the connection is bed...
If you lot are about to have a party I'd better bow out and get back to work. You'll be at it till the early hours, especially if Monna gets her hot waiters out of hiding.8 -
They'll be even hotter now it's summer. Remember the Chippendales? One life - your life - live it!6
