Back from Church where the theme was Father's Day. The corps leader wanted to give each man a Mar. bar - ( Men are really special ) but when he went to buy them - there was a promotion on them that didn't fit with the no gambling ethos of the SA.

Glad someone still has the courage of their convictions, @Florenceem.
I went up to see my dad this afternoon with DD1. We all pooled together and bought bedding plants for his borders and I put them in during the week. We're now at the point where he doesn't want or need anything, so we have to a bit more creative with presents! We also got him some of his favourite sweets.
I'm trying a scarf knitting pattern where you leave a length of yarn at each end of each row to make the fringe as you go, knitting along the full length of the scarf instead of across. It will be the first and last time! It's a bit of a palaver and more trouble than it's worth. I saw it on Arne and Carlos on you tube and thought it would be interesting.
@monnagran, I hope you are having a quieter day and gathering your strength for the coming week. I know you will be busy, it is what you do.2025 Fashion on the ration

First Father's day since my Dad died. So glad that last year I sent him a large box of Hotel Chocolat chocolates which he loved.9

@annieb64, I'm sorry for your loss. These are the days/anniversaries that hit home the hardest. My mam passed away two years ago and I still have to pull myself up at times. Sending you special hugs on this special day with special memories.2025 Fashion on the ration

MrsCD - the thought of knitting such long rows - wow! The last scarf that I made was 90+ inches.
monnagran - how are you today after a rest yesterday? Did you still go to Church?
annieb64 - I still miss my Dad who has been gone for nearly 20 years now.
Very wet here today.
Mr F has his appointment for ear micro suction today - thank goodness - he is so deaf!Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

@Florenceem, my DH had his ear syringed last week. It's great not to have the tv on as loud!
The scarf is a child's size for the Christmas shoeboxes, so not too long.2025 Fashion on the ration

MrsCD - unfortunately - not a lot of improvement in Mr F's hearing. He is being referred to a consultant. Mr F has very narrow ear canals - he can't use his hearing aids as he gets continual ear infections. I will just have to carry on shouting at him!
The baby blanket that I am making is coming along slowly.
I had an email about a 50%off yarn day - oh dear - got some parcels coming.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

That must be very frustrating for both of you, @Florenceem. I hope the consultant can help him. (By the way, how much wool did you buy??? I've had to stop myself getting carried away with special offers that I never use!)
I've been down a rabbit hole on Pinterest looking at summer hat patterns. I'll probably not make any, but I have the free patterns saved, just in case! 😉😉2025 Fashion on the ration

monna I hope you're getting some rest when you can. It's pointless asking you to take things easy. You've spent your life being one of those quiet angels lifting others when their wings have forgotten how to fly.I can't begin to imagine how your friend must be feeling after so many years with his darling. I'm so glad he saw her one last time and your help helped him keep his dignity during the flat inspection.I think many of us have been thinking of our dads. my dad was born in 1912 and I was 15 when he died far too young. it was his birthday on June 11th mine is next week and add in fathers day and he's been very much in my mind. He always is all these years on.Thanks to Florence , Mrs CD and others for keeping the thread on Page one. I've been trying to fight a flare. I went out brieflytoday for the first time since 29th may and it was good to see the sun and feel the nice fresh breeze.I daren't look on Pinterest too many lovely things to make and i have a large stash of fabrics , wool, cross stitch fabrics and thread along with all sorts of upcycling plans. Luckily two of my daughters share the same interests so they wont need to find homes for everything when I'm no longer here. I'm very organised with the stash so no bags of unknown stuffv to sort. My son was the first to leave home and I took over his room as a craft room.I was planning to make some curtains and was reminded both my normal and the quilting machines are overdue a service. Until a few years ago we had five wool shops. One also sold and looked after sewing machines. The wife was wool and her husband sold new sewing machines and lovely old Singers . I used to gaze at those old Singers but had donated hand machines and eldest dd got my beloved treadle. He did look after my machines but they retired a couple of years ago. At the moment we don't have a single wool shop and buying on line isn't the same as going into a proper shop. The last shop to close here was a real old fashioned haberdashers. It had been in the same family for generations and had the old fashioned counters , drawers etc. It seemed a lot like the one you mentioned Florence. It would have fitted perfectly in an old fashioned drama. The last in the family line woman put the shop up for sale and i really wanted some of those fittings. They went for auction sadly and it was the end of that lovely shop.pollyxIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.
There but for fortune go you and I.8
