Lovely makes again Florenceem, but I will say the green hat reminds me of Compo on Last of The Summer Wine as he wore one.£71.93/ £180.008 -

Lovely makes again Florenceem, but I will say the green hat reminds me of Compo on Last of The Summer Wine as he wore one.Well I now have the answer to what's been niggling at me since seeing the green hat Compo Simmonite. I watched every epiisode over the years and it was very gentle and funny. Compo and his pursuit of Nora Battywith her hair curlers, crossover pinny and wrinkled stockings was hilarious. We have visited Holmfirth a number of times long before dd1 moved to Yorkshire and it's a beautiful part of Yorkshire.'I often missed following the plot during an episode wondering how you could fold over the top of wellington boots as Compo's were. I miss that sort of gentle, very funny with occassional sad times tv series.Bill Owen Compo passed away in July 99 aged 85. His very kind and patient friend Cleggy played by Peter Sallis passed away in June 2017 aged 96. Best friends in the series and in real life they were buried next to each other near their beloved Holmfirth.pollyxIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.

Polly that is a lovely story about Bill Owen and Peter Sallis...
We are still mid-builders but have a lounge back (we have 2, how greedy) and the conservatory table. Just need him to finish work to the downstairs loo and the bathroom. I didn't realise how much we use the downstairs loo until it was out of action. We've missed that and the dining room most of all - i don't much like eating on my knees.
Also managed to declutter a few things - OH's old clarinet, some old speakers, a vintage model bus in it's box and some exercise weights. That's £50 we hadn't anticipated and some clutter gone. DD has also sorted out and thrown SEVEN pairs of shoes and boots. Hopefully the builder will finish this week - then we have to pay
I'm off to have breakfast with my favourite nephew tomorrow. He's over from Australia as his mother is very ill with COPD and Lung cancerSHe is only 58. Nephew needs to go back to Oz next week as his visa needs renewing so he will leave and the assumption is that he won't see his mum again
She wants him to do it though as she knows how happy he is in Oz. I can see my brother ending up there some time 'after' too.... I have to get up super early for the 3 hour train journey but it will be worth it. i was going to see SiL too but she's been taken back into hospital with blood clots and a suspected chest infection - it is all so desperately sad.
I wanna be in the room where it happens10 -
Good morning,
It has been such a long time since I've posted so I hope no one minds me returning after a long absence. I'm coming up to some leave from work and wanted to see what the forums were up to.
Those knits look lovely Florenceem!
Polly, I wonder if you've seen the updated All Creatures Great and Small on Channel 5? I think it is still available on catch up and has a similar 'feel' although not exactly the same.
VJs I imagine you'll be happy to have your house back. I hope breakfast allows you to offer some support and love.x
Things chez FPK are bumbling along as usual. We've made great strides in the garden over the past couple of years and this year I can barely keep up with the strawberries to harvest them. The flowers aren't too shabby either. We're still working on hacking our way through things and digging up the endless wild garlic, but it is a satisfying project. I imagine we'll spend a lot of our leave on it again this year.9 -
Another wanderer returning here.
Lovely hats florenceem, in knitting a scarf atm I shall make a hat to go with it eventually.
I need to collect Steve's prescription this morning so that's a three mile walk, it's raining hard so I doubt Beano will join me as he hates getting wet.
All the rain means the water level has risen so we aren't listing so much but unfortunately this means part of the gangplank is under water!
Chin up, Titus out.7 -
Welcome back Hester and FPK. Things have gone a bit quiet on this old fence lately so it's lovely to see you both.I hope all is well with you and Steve Hester and all the family. I read your blog whenI remember but I'm hopeless at remembering all the time. I have been quite envious of your life on the new boat. A much nicer place to be during a Pandemic when you're able to move back and forth depending on restrictions.FPK I think the last time you were posting here you had just found your new home. You sound settled now and into your growing.Mar and I were only talking yesterday about how quiet the Fence is at the moment. There used to loads of posters but up youboth pop. We're without Monna at the moment as she's busy helping someone as she always has done over the years. She and her thoughts for the day are much missed but no doubt she'll be back before long.pollyxIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.
