Florenceem said:Where is everyone? Are you all out sunbathing in bikinis? Not me Florence I've spent the last two days trying to tame this laptop which has now gone to italics and wont go back!I have never had so many ads ,youtube stuff.and microsoft notifications in my life.Almost all the sites I go on are the same including local news, shops I use etc. Just had to block , block and block or turn off cookies if there's an option.I know a lot of people like W10 but am now understanding why the family techies have never had it.At least MSE is as normal. The constant Microsoft notifications remind me of when the site changed to Vanilla and we were bombarded with notifications from every thread we'd ever posted on until I think it was Ivyleaf told us how to disable them.I hope everyone has had some sun the last couple of days. I've been indoors muttering to myself.I've discovered the blue blobs are a guide to the cursor however the cursor jumps all over the place and they're just irritating.I 100% agree with monna about the mysteries of tech. I was emailing youngest yesterday " Why don't these things come with an instruction book?" reply "You said that years ago when you got the Dell" This was literally ordered on Friday and sent to dd Saturday. It doesn't have a DVD/CD drive I discovered that when I went to put a DVD in and there wasn't a drawer.I've been looking today at a DVD/CD player. Same make as my tv and really low price. That has an instruction manual. It's just under £50 so why doesn't a laptop costing hundreds have some sort of guide.I fear we were born too soon monna! Anyway rant over. Youngest went by the code of the one recommended to me so not her fault. I didn't realise how many variations of this there were. The soup she made has sustained me in the last 2 days and very nice it was.I love the things you create Florence and all the other crafters here.monna Well done on the paper mountain. I seem to spend my life sorting paperwork. Sort one lot and then another comes along. If I was so inclined which I'm not I could paper a wall with letters from the PM , Matt, NHS England etc. They come in twos I for dd and I for me. Then there were census, forthcoming local elections, we're voting for local coucil, metro mayor and police commisioner so glad of the postal vote .See if you can get an early night monna. Second jab and dentist on the same day. At least it's two important things off the list.I never did find out about the beaks but assume the Ming is following monna.s annual easter chick knitting bonanza either that or she's on a chick hunt- she does have history with little fluffy chicks.Take care all especially if you own chicks.pollyx

Quick call before I go to sleep. Today has been ONE OF THOSE. Tomorrow is jab and dentist day so goodness knows what state I'll be in. I'm leaving the house before 9.0pam and don't expect to be back until the afternoon.
Polly, Windows10 is an abomination. I even, at great expense, invested in one of those 'Windows 10 explained to idiots' books. Supposed to be written in plain, easy to understand English. Can only think that I am intellectually challenged and a refugee from Mars. I don't understand a word of it. Oh! Come back Windows 7. Please.
As for the Paper Mountain, I am still on the Nursery Slopes I'm afraid. I have to come to terms with the fact that I will never again be producing Church Magazines, giving talks to various groups and writing articles for various people and will not be needing the boxfuls of ideas, quotes, poems etc.
And then there's all the sentimental bits. The Christmas card from a 6 year old helpfully labelled 'A jogin rain dear.' The camel with a particularly lascivious grin on its face drawn by a 3 year old. The book of poems made for me by an 11 year old who, in fact, has become a published author. I could go on for ever.
I have to keep reminding myself that these things will be completely meaningless to my poor family who will have to sort out my affairs.
Enough! I must sleep. xI believe that friends are quiet angels

Monna Those cards etc obviously mean a lot to you, and you derive great pleasure from looking at them and remembering. How about keeping them together and labelling their box(es) with "These can safely be disposed of" or similar? Then your family will know there's no need to spend ages looking through them. Any help?
Polly i'd quite forgotten i'd told you how to turn off notifications, and now I wouldn't have a clue how to do it
burtha i hope you're feeling better and that it won't be too long until you see the frog again.7 -
I love Win10 bur can never remember how I fix things that annoy me - somebody on a forum will mention it, I do it, then forgetit. No room under this vase for my brain to expand so I have to be careful.Re wee bits of paper and cards etc, I'm not sentimental at all, I just look, laugh, appreciate, then bin. Husband says I'd throw him out if he wasn't moving around too much.He is so right9

Cooler here today but still some sunshine.
Mr F is attempting his Dentist's visit today - trains permitting.
I am hoping to finish the crochet blanket today.

Have had my first outing since Jan 12th. I've had my second jab and the first visit to the dentist for a year. Now I'm feeling shell shocked and exhausted. In and out of the jabbing place in 19 minutes, could have been 4 minutes if I hadn't to sit for 15 minutes afterwards. In and out of the dentist in 10 minutes, but I have to go back on the 13th for the repair of the tooth that has lost a bit of its enamel, that is the day after my much longed-for hairdresser appointment. April is obviously going to be a whirl of social activity. 1jab, 2 dental visits and 1 hair appointment. I think I can cope, with a few days in bed here and there.
Ivy, that is a brilliant idea. I will restrict myself to one box, labelled 'sentimental rubbish' and the family can make up their own minds whether they want to go through it or dump it.
Ming, how can you possibly luv Windows10. I knew you were weird, but this is beyond weirdness.

ivyleaf I was so thankful for your advice on the notifications I've never forgotten it. The old inconvenient memory again. Go to your profile click on the bell shaped icon at the top and choose options. It also covers how you want MSE to contact you email , notification or both. I chose email only. It's a shame they can't offer the option to block pms. I've only had good ones but still think of OSers who were pretty well forced off MSE due to nasty pms. I miss dear Candlelight, Wolfie and many others.Hope all is well .pollyxIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.
