I am also in the 'glad it's february' gang - at least we can see the days drawing out a little now and there should not be prolonged bad / snowy weather (although i appreciate it is going to be chilly for a while). I'm so done with lockdown - and we're going to have to stick with the rules for a while yet, I fear...My feelings too. Yes, the unavoidable is unavoidable, but it feels like a negative place to be at the moment. Snow and the virus.
It has dragged on too long to keep a mindset in the best of spirits every day. Necessary to be endured, of course, but still a bane on current life.
So my solution is: while taking each day during these difficult times one step at a time, I like to concentrate a good part of each day on - & plan for - the happier days . . .
So: roll on the first day of spring! . . . more daylight & long-overdue warmth!
Now that day in March will help me to a more positive attitude! In fact just thinking about those days makes me feel more buoyant already !

@Florenceem, I remember many years ago we had a preacher at church, who, when he got over enthusiastic, would almost lose his teeth over the front of the pulpit!2025 Fashion on the ration

We had a preacher come into school to speak to the children and his teeth did fall out. The children (primary age) were stunned. The only one to laugh out loud was me!10

Every passing day is lighter for a tiny while longer the evenings are definitely beginning to draw out , the spring flowers are opening up even the wild ones with celandines and primroses in the grass and we saw speedwell out in flower the other day and yesterday found hawthorn leaves popping on the hedgerows down the lanes we walk and a field of ewes and tiny lambs, masses of yellow lambs tail catkins and bulging leaf buds on the hazel bushes and swelling buds on all the trees, not long now and spring will be here...don't give up now, we've come too far down this difficult road to let despondency in, we'll make it through this pandemic for as long as it takes to be safely out the other side again and there will be life for the living xxx.5

Boazu, you must live in a microclimate to have primroses, celandines and speedwell out in flower.2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

It's the advantage of knowing our 'patch' and knowing where the sheltered sunny areas are so when we walk every day we can see the changes and when the first few wild flowers open the colour draws your eye, specially the speedwells as very little else that's blue is out. There's one verge that was part of a very old country house garden, on the edge of an estate right beside the main road and with a massive walnut tree on it where for the past couple of weeks we've had crocuses, snowdrops, aconites, primroses and celandines in full bloom it's been beautiful and the woods round the lake are absolutely covered in snowdrops and will have wild garlic as a carpet in not too long and then bluebells later on, we're very lucky to live in such a nice place.6

So sorry. The day got away from me this morning. By the time I picked up my tablet it was lunchtime, and not even my lovely fencers come between me and my lunch.
Ming, I'm so glad that you have a new fence. Can we all come and lean on it while exchanging gossip?
All you people looking forward to long, light days, give a thought to us moles please. We are the ones who look forward to winter and the short, dark days when we can go to ground. The day when the clocks go forward is a sad day for us, and no amount of rhapsodising about the pretty spring flowers lifting their little faces to the sun is going to make us feel cheerful about it. So there!
THOUGHT FOR THE REST OF THE DAY.

@boazu, thank you for your beautiful description of the flowers and trees on your walk. It must look idyllic in the sunshine! We have snowdrops and hellebores out in the garden, and we saw some daffodils poking through the rough grass by the side of the road this afternoon, so Spring must be just around the corner.2025 Fashion on the ration
