One year in the last house I lost all my lavender- but temps dropped to minus 19 then, won't go that low in this new place. But it made me realise that nothing is totally hardy!

Hi everyone. Ive had tablet problems for a couple of days, (Android, not pills) so have had a lot to catch up on.
We have had a 'light dusting' of snow overnight. Much excitement. It must be all of 1/8th of an inch thick, but we continental are very impressed.
The old paint roller tin that I use as a bird bath was frozen solid and our soft Southern birds are puzzled. They haven't learned how to skate and were sitting along the fence having a protest meeting when I first looked out. There was I, in dressing gown and slippers, tiptoeing through the overgrown grass with a kettle of hot water hoping no one could see me.
Long pause here as I've just had an hour long phone call, and I've lost my thread. I'll come back later.

can always be optimistic for tomorrow.

Hi Folks, Haven't joined in your threads before. I saw a thread on the MSE newsletter that asked what our best bargain was, and said someone had got some smoked salmon for 10p, which is 2% of its usual price. Can someone mathematically-minded tell me what % I saved when I bought three huge whole salmons on Christmas Eve 2019 at Tesco, reduced from £16.50 each to £1.50 each? I wanted one for Christmas and as it was really late in the day I couldn't bear to see the others wasted, then gave one to the girl serving on the till, who mentioned that she wished she had seen them! We had a very nice Boxing Day evening meal and one in the freezer for New Year, so it made a big saving in my budget for catering that year. I keep looking but no luck now...10

Show off!
We had howling gales last night. I could hear something banging about outside. At about 2am I went out into garden to see if it was something of mine. No, all my bins etc were still firmly wedged. Wasn't going to go any further. It's not advisable for an old lady to be found wandering about t he streets in dressing gown and slippers in the middle of a freezing cold night. Gives people quite the wrong idea.
I HEARD THAT, MING.
burtha, I'm sorry that you are having to put up with such rudeness from customers. Some people just don't have good manners. If they did but realise it, a smile and a politely worded complaint gets far better results.
When I was met with rudeness I used to smile and say, "You are absolutely right." That usually sent them off muttering.
