Thank you SO. We've done what preparation we can; he's read through the leaflet they sent from cover to cover - he started reading bits of it out to me but I had to ask him to stop, as I was going decidedly green around the gills (I'm mega-squeamish, to the extent that anything but ANYTHING remotely connected with a "foreign item invading the body" makes me come over all unnecessary!)
I've also looked at the route on G00gle Maps, as well as the satellite view (we don't have a sat-nav, just have to call it up on the computer indoors) and we did a dry-run of the journey the other day.
All this is because I shall go along with him and bring the car home to avoid the eye-watering car parking charges; then he'll call me to be picked up when he's ready.
Unfortunately I have zero sense of direction, and still often get Left and Right confused, so I have a major tendency to get lost if I'm on my own in the car.
They did say in the letter that he could have someone with him at tomorrow's appointment, but we've decided that with my track record of fainting in hospital situations, it's best if he goes on his own.If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
LameWolf hope yesterday went as well as it could for you and Mr Wolf
I thought I was the only one to do dry runs of journeys I'm not sure about. Our hospital has now started charging blue badge holders for parking. If you walk at night no-one will see you cry.0 -
silveroldie I think that is iniquitous. Mind you, I think all hospital parking is diabolical. My DS1 delivers specialist bits between hospitals - not quite sure what but he has to wear a Geiger counter round his neck and his car is adorned with Keep Away From This Car stickers. Anyway, he was issued with a parking fine the other day. Not funny when you have just done a dash from Nottingham to Pymouth and a surgeon is waiting for you to arrive before he can begin an operation.
Of course, he didn't have to pay the fine, but it just shows the lengths these Car Park firms will go to.
I'm another one who has to do a dry run before going anywhere new. Not helped by the fact that I have no sense of direction whatsoever. In fact I do well to find my way home sometimes.
Where has the lovely sunshine gone? It was Spring here yesterday, but dull and grey today.I believe that friends are quiet angels

We have sunshine! The snow is melting! I can see dirty grass!
Then I here and read that rhubarb is nearly ready. Mine is in the shady side of the garden and still has four inches of ice pack over it.
The good news is the estimate for new siding for the house while eyewatering, is far less than we had thought it would be. We had been expecting roughly $20k all told, but it looks like new siding, front and back door, and a slab rock patio will all be done for under $15K. Because it's early in the renovation season, we can pick our work dates and it will all be finished a month before our son's wedding. Fingers crossed and wooden tables knocked on.Formerly Known as WonderCollie0 -
Monna, what makes it worse, is it's a private parking company, can't remember the exact amount but they made over a million pounds profit from parking. Money the hospital/ NHS could really use.If you walk at night no-one will see you cry.0

Our local hospital was built by Carillion and apparently the hospital lease it from them. There is a multi storey car park and two others - all chargeable with the money going to Carillion ( not sure what happens now as they've gone down the bedpan!) I'd dearly like to know if that money is used towards the cost of the NHS lease but I suspect not.
At least disabled parking is free and you can also get dispensation from parking charges while undergoing treatment.
Sunshine today Monna!Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
I agree SO. People wouldn't be half as cross about parking charges if they thought that it would be benefiting the hospital directly. The thought that it is all lining someone's pocket is infuriating.
As for charging the staff to park their cars!!!! What inhumanity is that?I believe that friends are quiet angels

We are off to the hospital this morning for HWK and we are parking at DD1s house and walking for 10 minutes to get there because there will be space in DD1s road at this time of day and I can walk into town easily from there too. I shall part company with HWK half way there and we'll meet at the house later on both having done what we need to do. The hospital car park is just too much hassle!0

Can it really be the weekend again already? :eek:0

And so far, what a weekend. The sun is shining, the washing has dried outside already and folk are cutting their grass.
Me? I'm off for a night in the big city for a friend's 50th birthday celebration with a night in a hotel thrown in. I'm so looking forward to this!0
