Have had trouble with PA here too, the new format is dreadful and have put in two complaints over surveys not letting me sign up even though I was eligible & in time. The goals are very similar to mine - overspent and overate on holidays and no new job yet so got to keep things tight.
    Mortgage £119,533 going down slowly
    Emergency fund £1000/£1000
    Savings for big things £9017
  • Good luck with your new goals. I don't like the new layout for PA very much, it seems harder to use.
Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally
    Debt in July 2017 = £58,766 😱 DEBT FREE 31 OCTOBER 2017 :T 🎉
    EMERGENCY FUND 1 = £50/£5,000. EMERGENCY FUND 2 = £10/£5,000.
    CHRISTMAS SAVINGS = £0/£500. SEF = £1,400/£12,000 PREMIUM BONDS ME = £350. PREMIUM BONDS DH = £300.
HOLIDAY MONEY = £0 TIME LEFT TO PAY OFF MORTGAGE = 5 YEARS 1 MONTHS
  • Back after my week off and what a week that was.

First of all, the good stuff:

    Painted the lounge...finally
Paid off DS's misdemeanour from the Cap 1 card, just DH's expenses on there now going forward
    Got a new car
Still got a job (although not permanent, yet!)

    Bad things:

Major row with DH over money and the severe lack of it
Did a SOA, not good but definitely solvable
Bought new car as old new car was turning in to a money pit
Still not permanent but working on it

The row was mainly due to the fact that I want to pay off the OD and save us money by doing so, DH is of the opinion that we would only save the fees so not worth it. We are permanently in the OD (£2750) and I'm sick of it. DH has since agreed to get rid of it, I want to show him how much better we'd be, so that's a work in progress and lots of planning.

The car saga was ridiculous and shouldn't have bought it in the first place, there was so many mishaps that kept going wrong with it that I had lost any enjoyment of driving it. So we traded it in last week and I got a different one from a different dealership.

The plus side is that the new car is more economical than the last one, so that is a bonus.

Used DH's expenses to pay off the remainder of the Cap One balance from DS's idiocy and paid the rest off the BC. Once everything has settled down I will have a final figure for the BC although it won't be pretty but gives me a challenge for next year :o

I need to rework my pots and change one or two of them to reflect last weeks changes. The mortgage overpayment one will be going for the short term, but will update once I have final figures in place and I know what I want allocating where.

My plans from the other day haven't gone, they've just altered slightly.
  • Pots have now been reworked and look like this:

General - This is my default pot - will be used as my emergency pot
    DD's Travel - Yearly
Overdraft - Will make a monthly payment until I hit target
CC Overpayment - Same as above
Cars - Again as above but no set target, will be used for all things car related
Household - Everything house related - may include Quarterly and Yearly bills??

The CC overpayment pot, will hopefully build up so that I can then make a lump sum off the BC. I'm thinking that ANY extra money I get can go into the pot and then off the BC every other month.

Oooh I want to see the living room!

Sounds like a busy week, totally agree with you about paying off the overdraft then you've got a clean slate and can work from there. I hope your new car doesn't cause any problems and you can enjoy it. Your plans and pots look achievable.

My dh gets annoyed with the debt too but he is as much responsible for why we're in the situation as paying it off so it's tough, I do try not to mention too much but just update him periodically as to what's been paid off. Keeps him and me happy!

Thanks, see you get what I meant but DH doesn't  new car is lovely, definitely the last change for a while!

I try to tell him that but he doesn't see the bigger picture and thinks all is well and that the debts are going down, they are but not at a rate where we don't need to worry as much
