Hope you have a lovely weekend

  • Thought I'd better post an update.

The weekend was lovely, I had the best weekend for a long time. Time spent with the kids and sorted out the garden, a trip to the garden centre and I have a few plants that I am hoping will take and look lovely once they are established.

Had a disaster last week with my lunches, but I'm determined that this week will be different. I will need to bring my lunches every day until the end of the month if I am going to hit my target.

I am supposed to be on a night out in London, Thursday of next week but it would mean that I would get to Waterloo about 8pm and would then need to get to where I am meeting my friends. So I have decided against it. It would cost me over £100 in train fare, drinks and a taxi home. So as I have booked the Friday off, I am going to use that day to blitz the house instead, windows open and music on.

DH has got a pay rise, that takes effect hopefully this month, its not massive but with what he pays out in pension that more or less covers it so no worse and no better off.

DH didn't get his expenses last month as they were in late, so he will have a bumper one this month. That'll help.

A few surveys have been done, just need to be able to cash out on them, a bit to go yet.

DS's parents evening tonight, I know it won't be a good one but I think he's turned a corner and I hope that this is realised by his teachers.

My six year plan is coming together, I will be the age that DH is now and I seriously want us to be in a better position by then. I will post it later once I have finalised it.

Ooh, loving the idea of a 6 year plan :)
If you have built castles in the air, your work should not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them

    Emergency fund 100/1000
    Buffer fund 0/100
    Debt Free (again) 25/072025
  • I was once told that its a good idea to make a plan of where you want to be in 6 years from now. I was told that the plan should be no more than 5-6 items, any more than it is overwhelming and any less and you have nothing to aim for. I have done this most of my life, sometimes it works and sometimes 'life' gets in the way and the plan doesn't happen.

I have thought for sometime about where I want to be financially and I have made my plan and finalised it.
    • All annual bills paid in full each year
    • All debt paid off – Aim 5 years
    • Money in savings
    • Overpay mortgage
    • Budget better

DS will be coming up to 20 and DD will be coming up to 17 by then and I don't want this to carry on, I'd like for us to help them financially if and when they need it.

My personal six year plan is a lot different but moving house was on it and that has happened, so that is going the right way.

That sounds like a great plan Purplemum and I'm sure it will help you to focus on your goals. The six year timescale seems realistic too.

I hope parents evening goes well :)

  • Morning,

I did an update the other day but my internet went down at work and I lost the blasted thing.

So Parent's evening for DS was horrendous, I could've cried. In all the years he's been at school, we've never had one this bad :(

No news on the company taking me on yet....I've done my 6 months, so I guess it is a wait and see...no rush for me, just wish to know that's all.

May's plan is going okay but could do better....story of my life eh?!

I was supposed to be going out tonight in London with some ex-colleagues but that is now not happening. In a way I'm glad, as by the time I get there it'll be 8pm and then another half an hour on the tube to the meeting place, a couple of drinks and then home, I can't justify spending nearly £100 for it. But as I am off on holiday tomorrow, I am going to get rid of the kids and hubby, open the windows, put War of the Worlds on and blitz the house instead :D:D

DH's expenses are due in tomorrow, he has two months worth due and they are sorely needed.

DD has her trial swimming lesson on Saturday, really hope she likes it.

DS's Cadets subs have been set up now, so I need to factor that in to the finances. DS had his Annual Inspection last night and was awarded his Leadership badge, he was so chuffed bless him

Nothing much else I can report. Will do my list for the flyladying tomorrow, so I have an angle of attack :)
