mhagster - I don't know how long your son has been in his job but could he not ask to be furloughed?
My pleasures for the last few days.
Remote trivial pursuit with the family
Watching the birds
Walking the dogs
DH still healthy
Getting through the paid stuff, not much fun in laying people off but we all kept our sense of humour and they will be paid 100%Spend less now, work less later.10 -
Thank you everyone for your thoughtful, uplifting posts, with special thanks to DFV and ampersand.❤
Mhagster - never did I think I would have flour envy! And yeast too!
For recently
Have run out of bird food and don't want to waste human food! Consoling myself with the thought that it's not the middle of winter so the birds will surely find something to eat. Plus more organised people will still have food and be feeding them.
DH has constructed a ladder to go in the garden pond so if a mouse falls in ( they do, often) it can climb out again. We already have a brick staircase in the pond for that reason, but the ladder is an elegant construction and kept DH busy all afternoon!
Watching Unorthodox. A fascinating window into a different world which I knew very little about.
A fat pigeon is patrolling, sentry syle , along our garden wall. He's probably cross that there's no food. Not my fault, pigeon. Honestly!
Happy sunny (so lucky again) Saturday everyone

For yesterday,
More antics of Percy and his love, mainly him as she is just two eyes peeking through the branches whilst he continues to bring her nesting material.
Ventured out for dog food and was happy to restock on bird food at same time, reassured by precautions taken by local pet store with sanitizers and gloves galore. Not so the petrol station where the only acknowledgement was distance strips on floor, felt sorry for staff but glad I had the necessary protection etc and had taken the opportunity to fill up.

I’m with & on Mantel but completely enthralled by A Lesser’s narration, so much so that when the inevitable happened I did cry
Made fruit scones and warm one enjoyed with afternoon cuppa.
Evening walk with beloved and small dog, followed by Gardeners World and wine!

1) saturday, no work day, hooray. instead have been getting back to flylady and attacking hotspots. My bedroom is hot spot free
2) sheets washed, dried on the line and back on the bed. tonight have washed the bed cover - that normally costs £20 to be washed and dried at the laundrette so this could either be a great money-saver or a disaster. Will let you know how it goes
3) just as i was getting back with the dogs mum arrived to put garden waste in my brown bin (we pay £35 a year per bin and i rarely fill mine unaided). I invited her to stay for a coffee, suitably distanced of course in the front garden. dd2 sat in the bay with the window open. gave mum her easter bunny so that'll stop us being tempted!
4) RSNO Saint-Saens and last week's Beethoven's 3rd. So many treats online.
5) after supper (fish fingers for me, chicken dippers for dd2, chips and peas for both of us - something rather comforting about going back to childhood favourites) we watched Joseph and the technicolour dreamcoat. and yes we sang alongMrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

Pleasures for today (Saturday)
1) A lie in
2) More digging and bigger son finished building a guard for the strawberries.
3) Hens OK.
4) My cousin's baby is here. A boy - that's all we know!
5) Smaller son made a pizza base so we had pizza for tea.
6) Watched Casualty.

Just finished watching and listening to Jacinda's latest daily update, with impressive Dr Ashley Bloomfield, our DG of Health.
Not one question ducked.
Grace, courtesy, steel, facts, concerns noted for follow-up (which we know will come), pinpointing and accuracy.

Comments following each of these DAILY updates are overwhelmingly positive, as they should be.

Saturday/Sunday pleasures
Gloriously sunny day
Finished reading my book - Dan Brown’s The Lost Symbol - gripping from start to finish all 680 pages & a real twist towards the end - never saw it coming 🙂
Couple of nice chats with neighbours.
Beef burgers, oven chips, baked beans & fried eggs for dinner - real comfort food 🤤

Much prefer Jacinda’s approach: BE KIND, STAY HOME, BREAK THE CHAIN, SAVE LIVES - far less aggressive than our motto. Thanks ampersand - I even read about Jacinda ‘chastising idiots’ - brilliant 👏

For yesterday,
I slept through the night with not one nocturnal visit, almost unheard of these days.
A morning spent with beautiful grey one, groomed, fussed and then walked in hand around the fields, much munching of grass by pony and enjoying the sun on my face, needed!
Cleaned out water feature using hose pipe, small dog did her usual trick of snapping at the water stream, we were both very wet by the end!
Finished one book and started another, rapidly going through supply.
Last wander around the garden before bed, bit of star watching.8
