5 OS pleasures in your day today - part 3

Morning all.......
Took Tiggy to park again and met some lovely people. A lady in a wheelchair with the most beautiful service dog who studiously ignored all of us except her. And maybe another dog that she gambolled with for all of 5 seconds before she corrected herself. The lady wanted to see her play but this dog is so well trained. I hope I see her again, we had a lovely chat.
On a semi-sad note......... I don't know how old Tiggy is as she is a rescue dog. When I got her she was days away from death either way. She was due to be euthanised on the Thursday and I got her on the Wednesday. They were not going to give her to me as the vet had been booked ( ? ). It was at a time when Staffies were being put down by the hundreds a day.
I say 'either way' because when I picked her up from her foster home (charity based) she was in a very poor state. I am not exaggerating when I say she was skin and bone and to boot had a massive lump on her chest. About the size of half a tennis ball. I sat at the vets the very next morning for 3 hours to be told that the antibiotics may not work because she was in an awful way. I always wondered about that as the 'carers' assured me she had been seen by a vet. Yesterday, after 9 and a half years the penny dropped............of course they hadn't bothered with meds, she was supposed to be put down because no-one wanted her. I can't imagine the pain she was in.
Yesterday, as I watched her I realised how she has aged. The conditions with her eye and the reaction to the general anaesthesia in November have knocked the stuffing out of her. She just ambles along, when she used to run like the wind and now has no interest in leaving my side.
Tiggy is my lifeline to comfort and love and more than anything, constant companionship.
So as I cannot kiss, cuddle or care for her more I will just be aware that nothing lasts forever. And for everyday that she lives, she is all of my 5 pleasures.

Bala, your post is lovely.
My recent pleasures
As always cuddles and walks with the dogs
spring bulbs popping up everywhere
a little robin tapping on my office window
laughing with the family
Spend less now, work less later.12 -
Thank you Jazee
I didn't believe my Dad when he told me for 2 years running that a robin would wait for the light to go on in the kitchen and once it did would immediately tap at the window. Until I saw it for myself.
The tapping was the signal for my Dad to go outside and put food on the table. This robin wasn't afraid of my Dad because it would immediately swoop over and eat breakfast. Marvelous.AKA : Bala La Boo & Bala Baloo

For yesterday,
A cold start but plenty of sunshine.
Working the beautiful grey one and having confidence in my ability to know what’s right for my own horse.
Driving home and attention diverted by a rainbow selection of Primula plants on a kerbside stall, would have been rude not to buy any.
Cycled into the village to visit local coop, got the milk etc needed but a pack of oat & raisin cookies also jumped into my basket, one enjoyed with my afternoon cuppa.
Watching Crufts and the gun dog classes, for obvious reasons this is my favourite category and cheered the spaniels on but couldn’t deny the winner, most beautiful Irish setter.11 -

Good evening all, pleasures for yesterday...
The HT telling me at breakfast time that he was glad that he had a tutor and he thought it would really help. He was worried about how we would pay for the tutor but I said we would use his pension money and just be very careful what we spend. It's worth the expense to see the HT so enthusiastic.
Birds - the birds in the garden are so noisy. It's lovely to hear them so busy and loud when there's been no birdsong for what seems like so long.
Work - busy and passed quickly. I did my dish thing again and after another 4 hours of steam I feel so much better. I was supplied with plenty of drinks which is also good for fixing colds.
Home - the HT requested a quick to make dinner as he was hungry. Jacket potatoes with cheese and beans. Yum.
A couple of hours online gaming and chat with best friend. His cold seems a lot worse than mine. I haven't had a cold go to my chest since I've started this job so steam is definitely the answer. Previously most colds ended with antibiotics and steroids.10 -

Well we got a point bop and are one above bottom. Nail-biting!
1) My first ever synod. I am lay rep for the cathedral and thought I would sit quietly and observe. haha that lasted! I raised a point about the statistics. It was a very interesting morning, great discussion re. a set of eco proposals from our sister Diocese of Swaziland in eSwatini (the country has changed its name, the diocese has not)
2) Nice lunch before I had to make my apologies and catch the bus to the University
3) chairing event at Women's Festival. We had a film showing: The Work they say is mind - Women in Shetland, a 1986 film from an all female crew. After the 50 minute film I chaired the discussion, with Rosie Gibson the director and a friend of mine who heads up the undergraduate medical programme, is a consultant in public health, a feminist, a knitter, a crocheter and all round amazing person (also great fun).
4) Then back to her house for the rugby and a very nice supper
5) then, although i had an all day bus ticket, her husband very kindly gave me a lift home. it's a bit blowy out there!MrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025
