Thinking of all of you whose lives are going through massive changes...
Cranky, give your son a hug from me for those words of wisdom.
Frith, diolch, you've reminded me that I haven't done any Welsh on Duolingo for ages. I keep leaving it too long then have to start again from scratch.
Five pleasures for Monday:
1. Goodness I love the NHS. We are so, so lucky in this country. Today DM had a home audiology test (while able to remain in bed) and was prescribed with a hearing aid. Then the community matron I really like rang up to see how I was doing and is coming over tomorrow afternoon to help with a load of problem solving over practical things.
2. DS1 texted to say he arrived, after a ridiculously early flight, at the place he's staying (in eastern Europe) ready for a week's distraction-free academic work.
3. Remembered a little packet of smoked salmon in the freezer which hadn't been eaten at Xmas so made scrambled egg and smoked salmon for tea. Very treatsy
4. Call the Midwife.
5. Watching from the balcony our regular close-knit family of swans paddling around.
Sweet dreams

Thank you all for the welcome
It's one of my days off today so probably a little more potential for pleasures. I work for 4 days a week in a cafe on a rota basis so days off aren't always the same each week. They can be the same for a couple of weeks depending on how the boss feels when the rota is being done. I think the fact that it's been a day off after working 4 on the trot is probably my first pleasure.
My 15 year old son (who was a house elf when he was younger but is now a house troll) was singing while he was getting ready for school. He's not keen on school so knowing he was in a good mood made me happy.
After doing the food shop I trundled off to visit my best mate who doesn't normally live anywhere near us but due to a nasty accident just before Christmas he's now staying 2 minutes up the road. I made us bacon butties and coffee and we had a chat for an hour.
I have a couple of crochet projects on the go so I went yarn shopping after lunch. Our local craft shop is always a pleasure. The staff are lovely and it sells yarn and all sorts of other things that you didn't know you wanted. Last year I told them I loved the pom pom sprouts with googly eyes that they'd made for a display and they gave me one to keep :rotfl:
Dinner was braising steak done in the slow cooker. Lifting the lid and sniffing took me right back to my gran's house when I was small. It was exactly the same smell. The HT wasn't as keen - he doesn't know how good he has it. When we were young we used to have a cabbage mountain on the plate to take your mind off how much braising steak there wasn't (my gran was good at making food stretch). The HT had mashed carrots - way easier to get through.
Bed time soon as it's a school day tomorrow0 -

Pleasures for today (Monday)
1) Managed to get up after becoming almost nocturnal over the last few weeks.
2) Got to the museum in good time and had to give a talk to the committee. I have neatly sidestepped having to do this at any point in my life so that was awful. But after that everyone was helpful and they do have plenty of useful stuff saved on the computer and I got a guided tour. They are doing plenty perfectly but I found some "gaps"... Was there 10-3, which seemed a good run.
3) Popped to Sainsburys for a cup of tea.
4) Hens OK.
5) Did bits of housework.
6) Watched the FA cup match with smaller son.
7) Did some duolingo!
8) Booked tickets for Star Wars at the Art Deco cinema.
9) Bigger son phoned and could not sleep because he didn't read the email properly (let's gloss over how many times I asked him to read it, or to let me read it...) so he is the only one who didn't take any sheets! However, he did have a full English breakfast, fruit for lunch then barbeque chicken and veg for tea, which pleased him. He's been learning all about archery today. He quite likes it now. He doesn't have a shelf he can reach from his bunk so has constructed one made entirely from duct tape.
10) Sewed up a hole in the neck of a t shirt. In fact, also wore my "new" Mistral top and "new" jeans and they looked better than my normal clobber and were also comfy.

Monday pleasures,
Food shopping and it was very quiet, whizzed round in 20 minutes.
Quite a bit of sunshine in the morning and, out of the bitterly cold wind, pleasant in sheltered spots.
Grazed equine girlie in hand for a while, very peaceful with just the sound of my mare chomping on grass and views across the Brecks. No deer today but did see a water vole on the opposite side of the large ditch.
After lunch I went out to the pet store for some dog food, got a free bag as completed royalty card.
Partridges under the apple tree clearing up the dropped seed from the feeders.0
