    Pleasures for today (Saturday).

    1) There was about half an hour, sometime in the very middle of the night, when it didn't absolutely pour down with rain. It was dark enough to see the stars from my bedroom, without needing to go outside.

    2) Woken up suddenly by bigger son who had overslept - the first time in his 19 years! So jumped up and took him to work. Also had to drop off some bike parts that were the wrong size for him, and that turned out to be straightforward.

    3) Into floody town (defences starting to come down now) to buy an emergency last minute birthday present. Went into the new independent bookshop for the first time and it really is excellent. Loads of books, a coffee machine behind the counter, local arty birthday cards and a lovely children's area with a sort of tree of fairy lights and a little nook to sit in to read. I asked if I could take a photo and sent it to my sister to see if she will take my niece!

    4) Hens OK.

    5) Had a good tidy of the living room.

    6) My red yarn came through the post so I will be able to add the "berries" on to my crochet wreaths.

    7) My brother popped in for a while.

    8) Have watched television most of the evening. The new stove is so much more efficient than the last one (which was letting in air) that we had to open the window at one point! Even the other end of downstairs is 21 degrees - no other heating in the house apart from the stove. I let the stove go out at about 8.30.

A bit of a strange pleasure is that my sister is going to have a word with our mother on Monday. Her behaviour has been very caustic and erratic again and my brother found another 18 bottles of hidden alcohol today. I think sister and I are largely in agreement that only the AA or similar will help. Brother is annoyed about the whole thing. Dad just smiles wanly. I think I'm going to offer to go in and tidy/clean up a bit as various rooms are almost uninhabitable now (though obviously they are inhabiting them!)

Ooooh bedtime! And it’s already Sunday! Just in from a lovely night out after dropping various people off first.

    Work. Was okay. Done.

Home for a couple of hours then back in to do catering for an event.

An event that I’d been invited to but couldn’t go as I should have been working evenings but that was cancelled so then I could go! And I said I’d sort out the catering and my friend came with me and helped me set up so we didn’t have to pay the entry ticket! Hurrah!

Had donated 2 bottles of Prosecco and won a bottle of cava! ( I don’t drink) then won a bath bomb but don’t have a bath so gave it to someone who does!

Catching up with good friends was fun . Much laughter which is always good.

Was even up dancing but oh how my hips ached!

Dropped friend off then friends kids off then home. But someone left a key in other side of door so I couldn’t get in and had to knock and knock to wake them up!

    Good Morning,

    Saturday

    1. Productive shopping......Lidl offers, M&S £2 off £15, Sainsbury’s cash back and points, Farm Shop hen accoutrements.

    2. Cooked and vacuum packed chicken which does not fit into the freezer. Friend will look after it in their freezer until we have room. :o

    3. EBay item sold, paid for and collected.

    4. Our new to us dining chairs had their first test. Had to invite a crowd to eat Coq au vin. The new kitchen and dining areas work really well for entertaining. :D

    5. More baby talk. They know they are having a baby girl. :D

Back to school tomorrow. Hope to see you soon. :)

    Saturday pleasures,

Sadly not the rugby, not meant to be but has been an enjoyable tournament to watch and makes me want to visit Japan.

Very wild weather with heavy rain and high winds so pottered about for most of the morning until rain stopped.

Over to see girlie, the roads were covered in debris and puddles so driving was fun.

All the horses were on edge and nervy in the winds, walked her in-hand for a bit to calm her down and then yard owner made decision to bring them in, left her happily chomping on her hay net in dry, cosy stable.

Stopped at petrol station to fill up and two tubs of Mr Sparks bite size cakes jumped into my hands, opened the mini rolls which are my favourite and had a couple with cup of tea.

Flicking through my copy of NS’s Kitchen Diaries and getting inspiration for this week’s meal plan.

Watched QI XL then a bit of one of the Dan Brown films but too tired to stay up.

    Yesterday's pleasures -

Seeing dog run like the wind chasing her ball in the park.

Giving dog a shower in lavender-scented dog shampoo after she lay down in a muddy puddle in the park.

Coffee (beans freshly ground) with toast spread with butter and English set honey.

Rest of morning spent damp dusting, vacuuming, watering plants and winding clocks, all to a background of soft rock classics played by Alexa.

Chat with Cats Protection lady on phone - Roger Kitten is growing (nearly 8 weeks) and eating for England. Sometime during the next couple of weeks he should be big enough to be neutered, chipped and vaccinated, then he can come and live with us. The resident dog and cat don't know what they're in for, mwah ha ha!

Food shop done early pm, simple dinner of pizza and salad followed by leftover blackberry and apple pie with custard.

Strictly Come Dancing on the telly, one of the few programmes I watch.
One life - your life - live it!
  • Today's pleasures.

    1. Ironing basket empty.

    2. Finally go around to sewing the hem on a pair of work trousers.

    3. Family on their way for a Sunday roast.

    4. Leaves swept up ....although the more I swept the more they floated down.

    5. A nice cuppa and half an hour me time....bliss
Well Behaved women seldom make history

    Early retirement goal... 2026

    Pleasures for yesterday:
    1. I made my own veggie sausages yesterday using vital wheat gluten and they were LOVELY. I made some sauteed potatoes and beans to go with for a late breakfast. Cheered DH up after the rugby result!
    2. Trudged around some villages local to us (Turville, Skirmett and Fingest) and stopped at a pub for lunch on the way. Saw about 20-30 fallow deer running across the fields infront of us, beautiful red leaves, fungi and birds, and my fat pregnant bum managed to keep going without stopping!
    3. When we got home, we put on the fire to dry out. Sat in our dressing gowns with cups of tea snuggling the cats.
    4. Listening to The Missing Cryptoqueen on the BBC Sounds app, about the cryptocurrency scam. Really interesting.
    5. Early night with lots of cuddles.
  • Blue sky and sunshine after all the wind and rain of yesterday.

Coffee at the garden centre and picking up a couple of jars of chutney reduced from their deli counter, lad at till tried to charge me £7.70 for the two which were priced at 74p each.....words and laughter and I finally parted with £1.48.....much better!

A lovely drive out to Bromyard through such lovely country and the leaf colours were outstandingly beautiful.

Home made red pepper and tomato soup for lunch when we got home, I've discovered the best way to have hot soup when we get back on Sundays is to start it on the hob in the cast iron casserole and then pop it in the oven on a low heat while we're out.....result, instant lunch when we're back!

Pictures of baby Frieda smiling which have popped up on the phone this afternoon, priceless.
