Pleasures for today (Thursday).
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Had a bit of a tidy up and weeded and swept the garden, in case any trick or treaters came round.
3) Hens well.
4) Sainsburys order arrived. Chatty man brought it.
5) Smaller son deigned to have his hair cut. You have to go up some steps to sit in the "waiting area" (all men plus me, as it's a barbers) and the barber's dog greets everyone! All the men are usually particularly manly (because it's a barbers?) and just read the copies of the Sun left for them and don't talk but they all go silly over the dog and talk to it in baby voices and cuddle it!
6) Cooked a tray of brownies and parkin which I took to the bonfire at my parents'. I tweaked the parkin recipe with oatmeal plus more ginger and some sliced preserved ginger and it was much better.
7) Have spent the evening watching TV and doing crochet by the stove. Have now done 12 wreaths, HouseElf, apart from the berries (awaiting red wool).
8) Bigger son has just come back after working most of the evening then meeting up with his friend.
No trick and treaters as far as I know (we were at my parents' anyway). We lit the candles and put a bowl of sweets out but it is hard to tell if any have gone.
Ooo, nearly forgot!!
9) I went to the meeting with college, county etc last week re: smaller son and his education (or lack thereof) and the first thing I asked for was reassessment - as no one has done this since he was 9. He also needs assessing to keep his exam dispensations for learning difficulties. Anyway, college asked that a certain psychologist was used and their normal SALT. County are tied in to one overpriced private company for all their children's services. Had an email today that county have agreed to all the reassessments, with the companies we wanted!
Next is to look at the reports and actually get some education underway. He is probably more autistic these days than he was when he was 9 (or it is certainly more obvious that he is not like other 16 year olds). It took him 10 minutes to get himself together to get out of the car to go into the barbers, then I have to tell her what he wants, then we have to go straight home so he can have a shower immediately, then there was actually getting him to go to my parents' and even then he spent half an hour sitting in my car playing on my phone as the socialising was too much (just my immediate family - 5 people, including me - and my brother in law and niece).0 -
One step forward Frith
Thursday pleasures,
Apparently the last of the cold, but sunny days for a while so the made the most of it by being outside a lot.
Went to the feed store for horse chaff and the blackberry treats that girlie is so fond of, had a chat with my mater who works there and she said no end of owners had been in complaining of colic type symptoms in their horses, maybe something around.
On to the yard and the beautiful grey one worked well and deserved her treats.
After lunch it was small dog’s turn, long walk around the back of some of the studs, the only other dog we saw was another chocolate spaniel, they were delighted to see each other and had a good game of chase.
A special Samhain meal, we raised a toast to our dearly departed, shared memories & stories of them and generally celebrated their lives.0 -
For the past couple of days.
1. No internet or phone on Wednesday. Strange how there is more conversation!!
UK power had been replacing the overhead electric power lines on Wednesday and then we lost the phone line!
2. After a phone call an engineer came out Thursday, DS1 has the day off, and reported that the phone line had been cut. A temporary repair was done so internet and phone back on. Will be a few weeks for permanent solution as they have to apply to close the road.
3. Phone call with my Dad.
4. The view from my window at work on a Thursfr. It looks over woods and I am probably 3 floors up so a great view. Never quite sure how high up I am as on the same level as the main entrance.
5. DS2 made a lovely risotto which we had with a glass of wine.0 -
You'll see from my signature I picked up on average 2 plastic bottles a day. November's eco challenge is not eating mammal products, but realise the plastic bottle habit is now automatic, and a bottle already picked up! For yesterday
1) Colleague picked me up for 2 day conference in St Andrews. Great chat and great to meet up with colleagues from staff development across Scotland, with visitors from Ulster
2) very nice lunch (today will be more of a challenge - they have soya milk though for my tea)
3) boss lives in St Andrews and previous very good colleague now works in St Andrews so we met up after the sessions at boss's new house (welcome 25 minute walk). lovely catch up
4) got lift back from ex colleague to very nice pub restaurant for dinner
5) lovely fish and chips, red wine, laughter then a comfortable night in a local b&bMrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

Good morning,
A bit sad it is Friday already, and I have not done any school work yet!:rotfl:
Taking the opportunity of 5 minutes peace while DH has gone into town.
Yesterday
1. Put up a bamboo screen on the hen enclosure to shield them from the wind. I think we may finally have solved the r-a-t problem for the moment. Until they find a new breaking in point
2. Trip to Tesco. Found lots of cashback offers on my list.
3. Spanish Omelet for lunch. Stretched to 4 for DS1 and gf.
4. Enchiladas for tea. DS2 actually said they were nice :j
5. Craft Club with my friend. 3 more crochet wreaths Frith and did a bit more with the 'twiddle mits' I am trying to make for a student at school. They are really designed for people with dementia, but I am hoping they help a very autistic girl, by distracting her from picking at her fingers.
Crochet and natter, people watching, vegan cake ........fab.
Have a lovely day0 -
Hooray it is Friday. Never said white rabbits. Said instead Stop yowing to get out, you have a cat flap!
Recent pleasures.
1. Getting my nails done yesterday. A monthly treat.
2. Friday cake club I bought mince pies with butter pastry. These are the only concession I make to Christmas until 1st December.
3.Glass of red last night with all the candles on.
4. Beautiful trees all red and gold on the way to work. Stunning even in the rain.
5. Best pal passing all her exams. So proud of her going back to college.0 -
Well done on your eco challenges, DD. I walked past something yesterday which I should have picked up. will try to do better. I do, however, only eat meat 2 or 3 times a week (total, breakfast lunch or dinner.. ) but have also just booked flights to Belfast...…
I should think being a PhD external is the good bit... supervision must be awful. Mine can be right cows, and are not always that helpful... They must take sadistic pleasure in destroying someone's confidence once a month..
Anyhoo - for yesterday
1. Walked to and from station in uni town, but not home as OH dropped me off on the way to taking car for its service, and I picked car up
2. Teaching was good - that's the confidence boost
3. 5:2 was ok, got hard later on but is done for this week and I think i'm another pound down :T autumn veg casserole and broccoli for tea
4. DD did the Halloween stuff - had a good set of visitors and a lion bar left over for me (which I had this morning due to 3.)
5. !!!! and angel at the chateau, followed by the Accident.
Have a good day allI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Sadly no trick or treaters last night but it was pouring down with rain and we are off the beaten track BUT talking to folks in shops this morning no one has had any trick or treaters at all, I guess the weather kept everyone inside.
My very first real smile from my granddaughter last night, Oh my word what a treat.
DD1 and James brought James's boys over after a party in the church and they did some trick or treating so it was not a wasted evening, enjoyed all round.
A good nights sleep after 2 x 5 o clock starts with my Zebra child while he stayed with us.
Photos on the phone of Zebra and Oreo decorating the room for their party last evening, such happy smiles.
Finding a little fur lined jacket for my granddaughter in a charity shop this morning a size up from the one she loves so much now, it will keep her snuggled all through the winter, fab!0 -
Well whatever happens, Lunch Bites are safe for now.
BoPsie is quite excitable as it is only five weaks until the trip again. And do it before it is too late!
Watched the flixamazionet last nite. Stranger than Fiction. Quite good. Wobbleade was consumed.
Raffles also watched the golf earlier.
Last lunch box of the weak, without the rocky today. Will need too new biscuits next weak and I is thinking of nuts, ginger nuts!
Said the other day about into the town this eve. It is wet, so a home diner will be opened. Thinks too fillet stakes and mushrooms etc. No cardbored triple battered rock hard chips will be used! BoPsie can has her whine! Will be on the net thing for a film!
As said before, BoP is at the JAM the morning. Well worth a visit. Will behaving a Bacon Butty, then home to the snorker fest brunch!
Now BoP had to pay the taxman too much money again yesterday, but fortunately his pay packet had rocketed to enable mes to do saw. He did not get any PAYE offs mes this month, so I gave on one hand, and took it back on the other! That is a pleasure be like no other! Point, as tax code only applied, it means that actually the money extra is earning interest at my society of bricks, it will come out again next month when pay clerk in Humane Remains realises her mistake! Not that BoP likes HR, Software, Social Workers and Educationalists in the thirst plaice! BoP has moved on, they has not! Actually our personnel at the mill are now called People Empowerees! Pay clerks to me and thee!
Name change, still complete …
Good news today, all the evil tack that punter paid over the odds for is now cheap. Question, is it all disposable these days? Me, I was always told to turn me kegs inside out on Thursday mornings!
BoP Xmas Tip Free
Don’t bother with showing people with useless gifts, use rule of BoP. Diary, withs me birthday in it and a pen!
Who let them out of the house?0
