I really appreciate this thread. Not only the happy posts that remind me how much pleasure can be found in the simple things, but those who lay their souls bare in times of hardship and grief. It reminds me of what's important, what to treasure, and of the resilience of human beings. You're all fab.

    My (very waffly) pleasures...

    1. Biting the bullet. I've been worrying loads about a possible court case coming up. Someone crashed into the back of my car in Jan and the legal company my insurer referred me to organised my hire car on some sort of credit and it came to ££££. Other party's insurers are disputing it, asking why I needed a hire car (it's our only car!), why couldn't I have put charge on credit card (I don't have one!) why did I need it for so long (...because that's how long the repair took?!) etc etc. Anyway, was so concerned I'd be hit for thousands in legal costs and for the hire and emailed today. The legal company emailed back to say even if the amount they settle at is less than my insurers claim, they won't claim from me. So sleepless nights were for nothing. Sometimes I feel so naive and bad at 'adulting'. Usually I would've pulled from the emergency fund, got a cheap hire car and then claimed back however with the potential house move (that never happened!) all funds were accounted for and it just seemed easier to let one company handle all the moving parts for me and when I rang right after the accident I was stressed and just wanted it to all go away. Anyway, my bank account is safe, phew!

    2. Feeling better. Been off work temporarily for stress, for the first time ever, and it's given me some time to catch up on house stuff. I think I'm feeling better because I'm no longer sleeping 16 hours a day. Is hypersomnia a weird side effect of stress?! I'm not looking forward to going back next week but I have an action plan to get better and work are supportive. Also now I don't have to worry about car stuff (sold old one, no more car debt), house stuff (not moving), crazy court stuff (see above). Much more manageable. I don't think pregnancy hormones help with keeping perspective!

    3. DH and DD have really been enjoying having me home and all the homemade cakes and food. I hope he doesn't think maternity leave will be like this :rotfl: I made roast potatoes last night and his eyes lit up like a kid at Christmas. It's also been nice to be able to walk DD to the bus stop every day on her first few days of year 7.

    4. Looking forward to mushroom stroganoff tonight!

    5. The budget is looking really healthy and I'm expecting £3.5k to come in this week  Unfortunately I've decided to split it three ways between emergency fund, mortgage overpayment and my ISA (which is my early retirement pipedream fund). Not very exciting, am I?!)

    6. French class starts tonight and DH is joining this year. Fun!

    7. Feeling the baby move more regularly now. I'm 18 weeks tomorrow!

mandm please slow down your mind and take it easy! (Says the woman who’s mind is always on the go!) what will be will be and there will be another house perfect for your family when the time is just right.

Sue lovely to read your pleasures and of course everyone else’s.

Well it was work from 8-5 day. It was fine. It’s done for another week.

“Please don’t take this personally...” and “I wanted to get you on your own”...okay I’m starting to panic slightly. Hours being cut by 2.5 hours a week. Knocking half an hour off my mornings. Is that all? Hurrah! That’s fine. Though I will have to decide between cleaner or back massage as I now can’t afford both. The money I will lose is one of them. However just after this will be implemented I’ll be working in the evenings for a few weeks ( as well as mornings) as we are opening when a local event is on. So I will maybe be able to keep both ? Shall see! Still want to put a chunk in savings each week and if I continue to live fairly simply shall be fine.

Rainy walk to work and back home in short sleeves.

Thursday night chips for tea .

Car has passed its MOT and waiting on son coming in so I can collect it. Got it serviced too so hopefully it’s stays problem free for a while. And as I’m walking to and from work I’m not using nearly as much petrol. Another money saving.

Just out shower and about to put heat patch on my back and hip which have their Thursday night aches and pains.

    Decent tips.

    And that was my Thursday!
Cleaner was in today ( why I’m loathe to give up) and lovely to come home to a tidy house. DD2 saying well if we have a day off together we could do it ourselves...oh yeah? Because you were always so keen before?

    Beautiful evening.

I will add as a pleasure watching the most stunning harvest moon rise tonight as I was dropping off some ‘stuff’ at my friends sister. Just saying goodbye at the garden gate and we watched it. Stunning. ( and stuff gone out my car...it wasn’t even getting a chance to come near my house!

    Pleasures for today (Thursday)

    1) Not a bad sleep.

    2) Couldn't get smaller son to college (3rd day out of 4) but bigger son cycled there happily.

    3) Hens OK and cleaned out their sleeping end and took them some sunflower heads from my garden.

    4) Nice sandwiches for lunch then jacket potatoes with garlic mushrooms for tea.

    5) Been watching TV this evening.

Phoned about my job and (allegedly) I am going to get a call from my manager tomorrow. Its been over a fortnight and I haven't heard anything at all! I wonder when I will be starting?
  • Lainey, hope you are feeling better from the fall also, it sounds like you have great bread making skills.

We are now builder-less, no they haven’t finished, and I’m not letting them back.

1 Dh and I have spent the whole day today clearing grout from where it shouldn’t be, and paint from where it shouldn’t be, and removing the kickboards to find literally inches of dust, I’m allergic to dust, and certainly don’t expect it behind brand new kick boards I could go on and on but won’t it’s finished and we are repairing the damage. We have a lot left to do but hey ho onwards and err side wards.

2 Literally drooling over the hairy biker route 66 programme. Frozen custard, tart cherries and hot fudge dam my sweet tooth, I swear just thinking about it adds weight.

3 We popped to home bargains, B&M and B&Q to get bits and pieces to carry on, i.e. Choccy biccies to see us through tile putting up.

4 We stopped at the little caf! for tea, grilled chicken, salad and chips.

5 Watching lost films of WWII
  • 1. Back is slowly improving.

    2. Chat with neighbours son. He was telling me all about his 4 month old son. A very proud father.

    3. Did manage to put some washing in and for it to dry on the line.

    4. DS2 cooked tea and cleaned the kitchen.

    5. Managed to sort out the bottom of my wardrobe. Looks much tidied now.

    Aw thanks PK.

    Thursday pleasures,

Small dog’s face when she realised that a mid-week rasher of bacon was on the cards.

Over to see the beautiful grey one, I lunged her and she was a little lethargic in the warm sunshine but a good girl for her Mum.

Grazed her in hand for a while but there were too many flies around so I stood nearer her hindquarters and took advantage of her swishing tail.

Sat in the garden reading my book and a dragonfly landed on the nearest flowerpot, sat there for quite a while sunning itself.

About 3ish our broadband was off and stayed that way until went to bed so OS Pleasures of reading books and a few games of Yahtzee.

    Pleasures for yesterday:

    1. French class with DH was so much fun. He really enjoyed it but I got told off by the tutor for cutting him off and trying to explain when he was struggling to articulate in French. I think he’ll catch up fast! He works for a French bank and as a result his large numbers are better than mine, I.e. translating “1698” into spoken French without pause...and I grew up in a fracophone household! I think this’ll be great for his confidence and hopefully next year on hols I won’t be doing all the talking this time!
    2. Mushroom stroganoff was a massive success. Had never had it with spaghetti before but it was lush, and not too unhealthy as I used vegan yoghurt instead of cream.
    3. Ended the evening with a decaf tea and an episode of The League or Gentlemen. Tubbs always makes me laugh.
    4. DD has been really sweet and affectionate lately
    5. Managed to get to late Thurs - now Friday- with some “treats” still left in the cupboard. Realised going shopping without DH and DD then hiding everything to ration throughout the week works much better. They didn’t know what to beg for!! I just brought something out every night and even DH appreciates the merits of not decimating everything sweet or snacky within 24hr of the weekly shop.
  • An early morning doctors appointment and two prescriptions to sort out my current discomfort, brilliant.

The pharmacy opened at 8.30 so I was able to go straight there, be first in and come away with my meds.

Both girls NOT in labour.....relief all round.

A beautiful sparkling sunny morning and much cooler to walk out in just after 8, was lovely.

Planning a trip out this morning as we've not ventured too far from home of late in case we get that phone call saying I'm in labour, can you come NOW! Looking forward to being somewhere else other than home more than I thought possible.
  • Next weaks up Norff looking for whippets tickets are done, Journey live updates on Sundae. Remember last time BoP found no whippets!

Watched a Jacobson last nite off the flexnitzon. Very good in Charlie and Boots. Wobbleade was consumed!

Day T minus 5. oooh close now!

At mill. Wes just had an email from our cousins across the channel in French telling us how they are going to downgrade out IT things. The anglaise version has come strait outs of the translate at the interweb and continues all the bad grammers that don’t transmit from the gallic tongue!

If you do good, people remember you for your good!
