Frithwe were once in Romney marshes ,near Dungeness lighthouse when the marsh mist came down .Anyone remember the black and white version of Great Expectations?
I wouldn't have been surprised if Magwich had appeared !0 -
Just popping on to say good morning!
Sue I remember being so often confronted by so many things that happened. The word I would often use was confronted. Then afterwards it was overwhelmed. Much still overwhelms.
Think of it as having a choice. Your choice. ( OH's choice) whilst still alert and able to make decisions.
My husband was still very well when we were told he was terminally ill with as they described it 'incurable cancer' so it was very confronting when a young nurse came into our home ( he detested home visits) right at the start and asked 'have you thought of where you'd like to die?' ...er, no because I'm still very much alive.
Another time a nurse asked have you arranged to have a hospital bed delivered? No? Do we need one as he was still getting in and out our bed just fine. And asking our oncologist does he need a hospital bed. And he asked what do you think? No! Well that's your answer!
But when the time came the palliative team swung into action and he was admitted for end of life care ( as they call it in Australia ) in the most amazing place. So he did have a hospital bed but it was in hospital. We did do an advanced care directive that was adhered to but it was really confronting ...a sense of I well I know this is really happening but wow this is really happening if I have to write it all down!
I blogged my way through most of it and still do. I can send links by PM if you'd like Sue.
Right. I'd better get a wriggle on and get ready for worky work! Day umpty thump...I've lost count ! (27 I think in a row)0 -
Good morning folks, thought I would join this thread seeing as some of my dearest virtual friends from another place also post on here. I think having a thread where I have to think about life's blessings and little pleasures will be essential, particularly in the days to come.
Now to get the depressing stuff out of the way. My OH died suddenly in hospital on Saturday just gone, in his sleep. Cause of death - cardiac arrest, caused by metastatic breast cancer on a background of ischaemic heart disease. He had been treated for cancer over the last 14 months, and was waiting to start a new round of chemo (the really expensive sort that doesn't have the nasty side effects) and had been admitted to hospital last Thursday for treatment of high calcium levels in his blood. We were expecting him to be discharged on Saturday, but I walked in at visiting time and found he had died in his sleep. So that's it, then.
Today I will ring the registrar to sort out registering his death (I have had the go ahead to do this from the coroner's office).
So, to focus on the good.
I am grateful for:
1. The fact that OH died when and how he did. If not, he would have gradually declined over the next year probably until he was bedridden and on painkillers delivered by a syringe driver, with nurses coming in every day to top it up. He and I and our family were spared that.
2. Lovely family, friends, work managers, neighbours, medical folks etc. Everyone has been so lovely.
3. The sunshine and blue skies, I would hate to go through all this in miserable winter weather.
4. My lovely affectionate animals - Molly the black and white Border Collie and Albert the long haired ginger neutered tom. You wouldn't believe what a soft and soppy pair of b*ggers they are.
5. Relaxing here in bed with a mug of lemon and ginger tea. Only sleeping 4-5 hours a night at present but that will sort itself out.
Commiserations to SuffolkSue, going through what she's going through. One day at a time, lady, you'll be fine.
Have a lovely day everyone.One life - your life - live it!0 -

1. & knows a tippytop stopping place in Scottish lands, where millionaires' shortbread and myriad splendid munchery is homely-made, on tap to all).
Felt a little shy of Kilmarnock-ly diversion.
Another would I, wouldn't I? Should I, shouldn't I? Today's Eeeek! moment, also courtesy of mhags: 'exactly as I'd expected'...oh dear!).
1. Vvv glad, profoundly, when I catch-up read, this morning, this now,
and see new names recognised from other threads. Nargleblast, I know where you have helped others hugely. Something more than virtual friendship, empathy, support and rant space lives here, as mhags, purple kitten, Broomstick, Sue, all recently or currently know. & too.
May it be so for you, and all of you - newbies duly Welcomed) - finding this thread and Mse generally.
2. In own bed by 3 bells. Big drive back. Terrific, if dark, 3cd teccie story en route, newly bought, right on top of huge Barnardo's heap in Kilmarnock:-)))
Lovely, lovely people, also realising much that mhags later described about the town's passage through recent decades.
3. Stopped at Annandale services, where a large, noisy flock of geese marauds - and rules! Spoke with white Metcalfe Farms van man, giving bread, surrounded object of much human+hissy interest). Really enjoyed my last 2 little baked tatoes+cheese, black green tea Thermos, prepped before leaving Perth. Also fed bread to geese and hissed back, in order to walk about.
4. Hat-trick Spookymen's Chorale gig at Inchyra Arts Club was again phabuloso, brilliant, again different. At last, they sang 'Tool', hooray! Caroline is Lady Inchyra, great fun. The farm+estate are Brigadoon-wonderful in best way. She sweetly, cleverly bullied us in nicest way to help Ciaran, present with his amazing Mum. Needless to say, & has given, intends more: &'s late blvd's best friend was Sandy Brown. Ciaran knew about him and 'The McJazz Manuscripts'. Berklee will have a star student.
5. Loved Scotland all anew. Loved peeps, green and green, wide craggy open spaces, heights, more green, water, welcomes. Another bloodline call via &'s Poppa.

Poorish start by crickety & this morning. Bop will relish). On verra. We are without Lockie Ferguson.
Need to get cracking for Spitalfields. Many £££s out of late(posts passim).
Dear God! - just hearing on news that many parents are telling children they 'won't need to do a foreign language after brexit.'
Calm &, calm. Save it for the run chase and beloved Wimbledon. &'s Rafa has a valid point about the (weighted)draw. Loathe djokovic.

Is beginning to feel like a party over here.....HOORAH!
This sunny and beautiful day is worth 5 pleasures all on its own isn't it?
HWK has gone off to fish one of our local lakes which makes me really happy for him, he loves the fishing but also the wildlife round the lakes he fishes. Best event for him was when a water vole climbed onto the toe of his boot and sat there eating some greenery, the photo was amazing.
A good and productive morning in the charity shop and the biggest pleasure was working my way through more than half the ironing pile and getting it priced and out!
Some perfectly ripe local grown strawberries I've just had for my lunch, OH YES!!!
Feeling my soon to be granddaughter move under my hand for the first time last night when DD1 and James came for supper, just amazing!0
