Greetings from a freezing Machynlleth on way to ICT. Having a walking weekend followed by a writing retreat week.
Pleasures for the last few
1. Recording of John Finnemores souvenir programmes with my brother
2. Nice lunch with friend. She is about to leave for the summer. Jealous
3. Nice walks in london
4. Reasonable supervision yesterday. Better than last time anyway
5. DIY SOS
Have a nice evening all.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
rhubarb crumble, yum (though sadly none in this house)
1) work as busy as ever. slipped upstairs at 11 for a coffee and read of my book - the magician's nephew which i have never read before. i see similarities with the subtle knife.
2) didn't manage my book cos bods from stats also having a coffee so had a nice chat instead
3) a very nice lunch made from onion, red pepper, tomatoes, chilli flakes, pasta and sardines, they being the ingredients in the house
4) lovely evening with work buddy. we went to the invercarse for an early supper (i have a 10% off card)
5) now home, dd2 home, dogs walked, mrpiano (who was on tv last week!!!) has made me a cup of tea, pink floyd on youtube. life is goodMrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

Good morning, hurrah it's Friday. We have an early ish hospital appointment for DD2 so we are up and about early and hopeful of a parking space!
The most stunning sun rising this morning. Not just the actual sky bathed in colour but the huge orange/red sun rising up.
Thursday pleasures.
Went to l!dl got a few things RTC.
Went to opticians and just as well I'd got a few things RTC in l!dl...needed new specs as prescription had changed. Have taken out a one off £9 insurance policy on each pair. Having just broken 2 pairs in 5 days.
Home and managed the dog walks in the dry and then it actually brightened up after being a foul start to day. Got my washing out on line.
Friend came for tea. Had made RTC chicken with RTC roasted veggies and RTC spinach and some rocket. With some lovely crusty bread and butter. Simple but delicious.
Went to a floral workshop privately arranged for my birthday with 3 of my closest friends. It was fabulous. The florist had chosen Australian and Scottish flowers and the colours were so subtle and I loved it and friends loved theirs too. We each took home a hand tied bouquet. And the florist bought me a birthday cake!
Friend came in for a blether which was nice. Always lots to catch up on.
She couldn't quite grasp how I can manage on what I do. But it's a choice ( thankfully rather than an enforcement) and by living quietly and simply I manage ... With the odd birthday treat thrown in!
Had just waved goodbye at the window and the newly moved sofa caught the newly moved rug and I tripped up and went down the full length of myself. Aaaaaaaargh! Sore but nothing broken...not even the specs which were thrown in the air !
Right, I'd better get wriggling! Have a great day0 -
Thursday pleasures,
Popped in to horsey town, visited library and pick up a few bits from emporium.
Over to the yard, girlie worked well and it was nice to be out in the fresh air even though the wind was cold.
Back home, sat down to read and fell asleep!
Tea was mackerel with stir-fry veg with cauli rice and very tasty it was too.
Episode 4 & 5 of Fleabag.0 -
What ho midears! Thank you all for keeping posting & I must try harder.
OS pleasures recently(ish)
“Aww, I got bite marks on my passport” - son has not mastered carrying sensitive documents reliably.
Some Conservative canvasser has dropped off a questionnaire - I am in awe of someone still upholding their end of what is surely a somewhat abusive relationship.
From the whoops I think Himself is completing the questionnaire as head of household rather than the polyglot opinions actually held. Still, he’s happy & I’m carefully not reading over his shoulder.
As I plan to get various letters into the post, OH declares he’ll don his Social Trousers & join me... (Sartorial standards being upheld!)
Oh gods, local restaurant 'specials board' offers fish finger sandwiches! (At nearly a tenner a plate!)
Husband watching the march on tv howling with laughter as folk stay off the grass & leave shop windows intact “they’ve no idea” he opines. (I think a civilised march is a good thing.)
Sis back from march cheerfully grousing “the green park tube station was closed so I couldn't pop into Harrods food hall to get birthday presents for parents” & “Best placard? Eton mess.” (Her opinion.)
“Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is starting to sound like a good idea” March placard, (confounding the Monty Python view that such conduct was no basis for a system of government) is one of my favourites.
Bad way to find your mot has expired - pulled by a copper. Good outcome - got car booked while sat in back of policecar & mot done within 3 hours. Just the fine as a reminder then....
Hanami is starting - the very edges of pink cherry blossom are beginning to be visible! After a days sunlight, I hope to see the bubbles inflating as I trundle home. [Almost - a few more hours sunlight needed...]
A crossing has been partially blanked as building works are ongoing around so one morning I was startled several times over to see what looked like Daniel Craig, suited & tied, driving towards the crossing at pace (albeit not in an Aston but something sleekly metropolitan) and then come to a graceful halt to allow us pedestrians to trundle across!
“She’s so horse faced she makes Jacinda Ardern look cherubic” - miword the lads views can be harsh. Proud of their vocabulary even as I deplore judging on looks alone.
I love my family for the strange things they share. Star Wars sand people/Tusken Raiders bags were 1903 bandoliers (which are collectables to the heavy grade militaria buffs) and therefore have “how to make” copies on the Internet!
Near deafened by the hi vis jacketed lads hacking at tarmac to dig a trench. Not looking hopeful for spuds there lads.... (To be fair, I think they intend to lay pipes/ducts but I love the idea of guerrilla gardening.)
Have just taken off boots I am ‘wearing in’ & resumed my pseudoConverse trainers albeit with all the insoles & orthoses rigged. Not to be wearing rigid leather feels as if I’ve just silk slippers!
“Politics, religion, greed & testosterone” - I think between them that probably explains the current politics, but then it covers most bases...
I do love the daft questions young men can ask “how long does it take for a giraffe to throw up” - being 4 stomached ruminants, they can’t traditionally, but they can & do chew cud...
“You’re too old”
“Some of us can be cunning & guileful.”
“But not you!”
Guess my intended future career as serial killer (to discourage the lads from the idea) is off then.
“Please tuck in your arms legs heads paws and tails so the trolley can get through” - at first I thought the onboard hospitality was being sarcastic then realised she was wholly serious about loved pet not accidentally getting hurt.
Went to a family gathering & despite it being very largely vegan, it was a happy gathering. Several little cousins have learned Mah Jongg & are thus much improved on their younger selves!
Earth hour, the illumination over The Acropolis is switched off & my husband is muttering about the missed opportunity to get a new wing for the British museum...
I have tried the self-scanning technology & I cannot see how you make it work with a mobile phone (with shopping list) *and* drive the trolley. I shall abandon the game in favour of better steering & a human interaction. Pleasure in informed decision.
“First you’ve got the monkey bars, then the swings, then the mud tunnel” - my son’s view on ‘how to get out of Europe’ has a distinctly has a children’s playground nuance. Can't imagine how he comes to take such a view...
“Some lights stay on til bed time!” - my plaintive cry as I manage to pinball along a wholly familiar corridor sending sundry items flying...
Truly the April Fool is she who still is not wholly sure what the correct time is.
Waved to the tailor! What with building works, scaffolding, & our collective erratic hours, this is an endangered but ongoing pleasure.
Got to love the orderly queue for the loo on the train. Polite conversation on (almost) any topic other than running water & politics! It is just so gloriously British.
Rhubarb Bellini sounds like worth watching over the rhubarb for. Thank you MrsLW for the inspiration! Plans to forgo a mere champagne cocktail this New Year in favour of a home grown Rhubarb Bellini, plus Much more interesting Christmas presents, as not entirely by chance I have the little Kilner bottles needing a use.
Loving the original Hedwig google doodle. Huge respect for women in science with an extra grin for bonus points to JK Rowling.
Trying to get all needful sorted for a weekend away training to get my NSRA Youth Proficiency Scheme Tutor's Diploma. (A surprising amount of which is meal planning, so there is still something to chose from on Monday!) My Easter egg this year...
Right. Health strength love & courage to all as have need, rousing cheers for all things that grow (plants, relationships, grandchildren - tho I'll excuse unpleasant germs) & may we all have the appropriate clothing as the weather stutters towards Summer!0 -
D for V you don't have to use only rhubarb for cordials, most other fruit will make a lovely drink and Bellini too! plum, damson, blackberry, red currant, black currant, raspberry, strawberry all are nice and if you grow your own fruit it only costs you the sugar and the power source too. If you're going to keep cordials long term you need to sterilise the sealed bottles in a water bath by bringing the water with the bottles in it up to a boil slowly and keeping it at that for an hour, the water should cover the cap of the bottle. Let them cool in the water and when they are cold and completely dry you seal the opening round the cap with melted wax. That ought to stop fermentation in the bottles and then you fridge them when opened and use within 6 weeks.0

MrsLW you have made a good intention into a potent motivational tool! My garden will now be monitored, better nurtured, diligently harvested (and an assortment of waxes will be laid in to seal bottles.) Hurrah I have Months but what fun now the plum, the berries, & the currants all have additional new & interesting futures!
Oh yes OH has managed over 10 hours sleep
Middleson is doing the washing up without dickering about it
I've found a rail pass eldest might be eligible for
& I'm in class this weekend learning to teach shooting to scouts.
5 OS pleasures in a single morning!0 -
Stewed Rhubarb. That is a nonsense food. Not good for you. At least DD has seen sense and wishes of a Rhubarb Crumble! No more of this …
Date Nite last night again and I had steak, as it is on offer at the local thing inn! Wobbleades were consumed and BoPsie had her wine! Raffles followed us out and guided us home again! Why do cats do that?
Nearly got my swing back at the mill with the shovel. It takes time to pick it up again.
Getting wobbleades inn for the note, we are catching up with challenge of uni and tour thing. Did not watch it other nite as we saw ‘Support your local gun fighter instead’. Finger kebabs will be served!
Nows yous lot probably don’t knows what finger kebabs are? They are cheese, cocktail sausage, and cherry toms on cocktail sticks! Proper food not like that stewed rhubarb thing!
BoP will be keeping his beach ready looks inn the gym as well! This will next be on tour at Steel’s Corner House in mid May. Details soon about other BoP tours this year! Please think fo boPsie who has spent up in Macy’s just last weak!
Not having one today.
You will just have to sit out the rest of the day now knowing yous had you BoP fill!0 -
1 Vets signed off our little lad who is slowly coming out of his shell.
2 Home and haggled a great internet deal as we are due to renew but very happy with who we are with now, and they have given a great rate so far, upgraded for free for now we will see if the contract increases over time I bet, cynic I know.
3 Tomato soup for lunch, and dinner will be a different, I picked up a pre boxed Indian meal for 2 reduced to 80p, but will add some peppers to it and make our own healthier rice.
4 I spent the afternoon starting on painting the main room ceiling, it’s a pain as I’m forever working around in on myself as all our stuff is still in here, but it’s now officially half room done, just the rest to do, while I dislike doing it, it’s also a pleasure as I can see the immediate improvement. Although I just keep staring at it now. The next half should be easier as it’s the sofa end so fairly clear just a ceiling fan to contend with.
5 Just sent off the paperwork for the first steam fair of the year for us. Always a nice feeling to get to that one.0 -
Bedtime.
Very quick doggy walk first thing. Out to hospital and got a parking space! Had a pick of them which is very unusual.
Washings in and out. An excellent drying day today.
Walked all the way to the blooming allotment and could not open the new padlock. This is so frustrating! I'd carted two heavy rhubarb crowns ( with half the soil from my sisters garden I think) and was not for carting them back up the road ( uphill most of the way) so lobbed them over the high gates...may have almost knocked myself out at least twice as they landed back on top of me! Hoping noone else nabs them. Did message chap in charge but no reply as yet.
Popped in to T on way home and nabbed 2 huge bunches of flowers for £3 RTC from £20.
Much chatter and laughter in DD2 room, her, me, her brother and the dog atop her bed!
Finished painting and waxed a console table. Also painted the legs of a footstool( though not convinced) and have started to paint some photo frames that have been in garage since I came back. Now all 'winter grey'
Wasn't convinced by my moving round the other day so did a swap of all the rugs and that's made such a difference! Have swapped some 'winter ' decor for more Spring like. Much happier with how it's all came together.0
