Pleasures for today (Sunday)
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Hens well and we got courgettes, chard, raspberries and corn on the cob from the allotment.
3) Plenty of nice food today - porridge for breakfast, courgette, chard and cheese omelettes for lunch, little pizzas for tea with bits and pieces from the fridge for topping plus cous cous and corn on the cobs.
4) The turtles were rehomed with a friend of mine whose children seem to like them! I can no longer afford their food. In fact, this may become a bit of a theme as I cannot afford bigger son's college bus ticket tomorrow and can't really see any sudden improvement on the horizon.
5) My school friend phoned. She shouted "hello" to my friend who has the turtles, since she also went to high school with us!
6) Smaller son went with his friends to play football (they hire a pitch between them). Bigger son cycled over to join us (about 8 miles). We walked around while we were waiting but could not find a route down to the canal. It was all fenced off or a huge drop, or there WAS a nice set of steps but ending 15 metres above the canal over a culvert! In the end we parked by the station and watched the trains coming and going.
A pleasures for yesterday that I forgot. Smaller son was looking at his football, which needed inflating slightly. I asked him why he didn't pump it up a bit more. He looked at it sadly and said, "But I don't have a moysenneedle". I was confused by this so he repeated it a few times. "I need a moysenneedle to inflate it". Had a look at the football and it said, "Moisten needle to inflate"!!0 -
Morning Folks!
Woke early, so thought I would post some pleasures before another rollercoaster week begins!
Brilliant Weekend......
1. Saturday......Car test driving as lease coming to an end........Ordered a car for Xmas.......MSE bit is beacause it is an electric car with a bigger range than our ZOE. I will miss her.:(
2. Test drive in the same town as a huge charity supermarket, so had a browse around. Got some nice things for DD for when she comes home from Greece. She will need warm stuff! Also got some things to put away for Xmas, for her and the boys too.
3. Tea was Mexican and using up bits out of the fridge. Lit the log burner and watched The Barbarian and The Geisha. (John Wayne film, recommended by chap giving lectures about Japan on our cruise). Lovely sets, but a bit thin on the story! :rotfl:
4. Sunday.....a Grand Day Out! down to Hampton Court. DH had ticket for Hampton Court and DF and I went to Kirsty Allsopps Hand Made Fair.
5. Too many pleasures, but highlights.......photo with Kirsty as she signed her book for me. (Put away for Xmas), sat near the front at the Super Theatre so had a good view of Kirsty making envelopes!......beginning to sound like a stalker:o......Tibetan curry for lunch and tea and cake at vintage tea tent before home.
6. Lots of inspiration for my new role at school, and bought a metal stamping kit for the students to use. Such fun!
6. Got home in time for Victoria.
So tired this week, I have not kept up with all your happenings. Have a good week.0 -
Different type of day.
1. Went to a French property exhibition. We are considering moving to France and went to see what we can get for our money and how expensive different areas are. The tickets were free as was the train travel. It was interesting and some good advice given.
2. Given a bag when we enquired about something and in it were good balls DS2 is happy.
3. Had a talk with DH about moving with more information and we will probably wait for a year/ 18 months as doing major work on MIL house to eventually rent it out. I would move immediately but DH isn't as keen to move that soon.
4. Cleared a small area in the garden of bindweed and other weeds and then planted some hardy geraniums which have taken over in another part of the garden.
5. Managed to fix the boiler. It will hopefully last til October when it's due it's annual service. DH wanted to call someone out. I googled and it seemed a very easy fix.0 -
Frith I am glad to hear bigger son is home well done on refusing to pick him up. I would have done the same with my DS need to know they cannot be hurtful / try to walk all over you then expect you to drop everything and run after them. Also good to hear smaller sons provision in place till 25.

OS pleasures of two very OS 26 year olds...
1. Woodburner. Spent Friday night listening to the radio (Victoria Coren Mitchell interviewing Sheila Hancock, and a few other things) with fire on and wine in our hands. Bliss.
2. On Saturday morning OH cleaned the house top to bottom, whilst I:
Went to the supermarket
Went to the bank
Made an apple tart
Made a roasted squash and sage soup
Prepped mushroom wellington and parsnip mash
Prepped rhubarb crumble, with rhubarb from the garden
3. Then at 2pm we went to a family BBQ - joint 60th and 2nd birthday parties - they made us delicious vegan food and we brought an apple tart. Had a few laughs.
4. Our friend (a neighbour in his 70s who is great fun!) came over for dinner with the most fabulous couple of wines. He said he thoroughly enjoyed the meal, which made me super happy!
5. On Sunday morning we had a very relaxed few hours, with DD reading, me cutting out fabric for my new skirt, and hubby tinkling on the piano.
6. Sunday afternoon it was off to my mums for another dinner party - hosting friends she's known for nearly 40 years. She made thai coconut soup, vegan nutty pad thai, Sri Lankan squash curry, coconut sambal and veggie thai red curry with jasmin rice. Really pulled out all the stop.
7. Sat at my desk, where I finally feel a bit relaxed0 -

This had me in fits! Do hope things improve on the ££ front, Frith :grouphug:0 -
Oh Frith, your youngest' comment did make me laugh
Skint, hear you sister on the dogs hair!
Sunday pleasures,
Up early and out with Tilly, it was foggy and oh so quiet, good thinking time.
Took Lulu's rug off and gave her good groom, went to fill up her water buckets and turned back to see her on her back, big old legs waggling in the air, itching herself, mud everywhere, oh the joys of a grey :rotfl:
Chilled afternoon at home, catching up on Gardener's World and eating Bara Birth with butter.
Enjoying my current book, Crimson Snow Winter Mysteries.
Your pleasures, thank you.0 -
Oh Frith - hope things improve soon
Pleasures for yesterday.
1. i wasn't very well, i think i have / had the family 'lurgy'. In it's third incarnation it wasn't as bad as DS and then OH had it. THat is the pleasure. Not sure if i'm totally ok, but certainly better than yesterday
2. Journey home was a bit of a 'mare. Why, oh why can't parents control their children (FB friends will appreciate that I have toned down my language somewhat). the pleasure is that i did get home and on time, though it was touch and go at times
3. A gentle walk with OH by the sea
4. Watched X factor and Comoran Strike
5. Early -ish to bed and slept 8 1/2 hours :T
Drain man is due any minute, so hoping that the blockage is cleared and a temporary repair is put in place. Keep everything crossed...I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
1) Being back at home and feeling well again, the grandpickles managed to give me their tummy bug.....interesting weekend! Sadly He Who Knows is feeling 'off today' so I'm full of sympathy as it was short but intense!
2) Sleeping for virtually the whole day yesterday, all the way home in the car and straight to bed, up for a couple of hours and then sleeping all night too, must have been what I needed as I feel human again this morning.
3) Lovely neighbour over the road delivered a big bag of pears to the door with the promise of more to come so I will make a batch of chutney and some pear jam.
4) Found 2 nice jumpers in a sale at Edinburgh Woollen Mill on Saturday morning before the 'lurgy' took me so I will be warm this winter.
5) Found a lovely 'chick pea' cookery book too with some super sounding recipes in it that will help keep housekeeping costs down. We're very fond of chick peas!0 -
Get well wishes duly sent Lyn x0
