Lots of 'last Wednesday/yesterday Wednesday' weather contrast biz, evident when seeing &pic at Akl Airport a week ago, vs yesterday in Town of Horse. Emporium friends aghast, ask 'How could you leave?', especially with the ordure of B--x-- lunacy.
Old schoolfriend reports temp. drop to 24.5C.....
Hoping for new hand surgery date asap.

1. In Emporium, observed a lovely meeting. 2 elderly gents, certainly in their 80s, saw each other from afar [opposing ends of aisle near door, Lainey] With the widest smiles, arms out and beaming, they met, embraced and began catch-up chat conversation, each listening to and answering the other in turn wih patience, delight and grace. I cannot overstate what a joy this episode was to observe, just as I entered from the vileness outdoors. It will stay with me.
2. Caught sight of oldest Uni friend, also in Emporium, still waiting for knee-brace after her fall down last 2 stairs of home she's had over 35years. Fed-up-ness is understatement, but there we are, so aware of Falls As Enemy, given our sparkling youth. Friend is due to be driver in Ireland in 3weeks....unlikely at this rate. Called in later again and was able to send an urgent envelope for her. She has family in and around, as well as in Yurp, so it's manageable, but infuriating, still.
3. Lovely emporium rtc artichoke hearts and vine tomatoes at 99p per kg! Lent lunches ahead, so....good.
4. Wonderful adaptations on R4 atm, A Room With A View and Passage to India:

[from previous times of high standards and investment i.e. 1995]
and the brilliance of Tanika Gutpa's work here, with the superb Penelope Wilton:

Total A* recommend.:-)
5. &'s sudden realisation - DO NOT BE IN UK ON 29 MARCH on principle, as for a loathed prev. pm's funeral, so done. 5-day DFDS minibreak, then saw the stunning RA Oceania Exhibition is just now in Paris until July! Felicitous timing. Look forward to any Compare+Contrast elements there may be.http://www.quaibranly.fr/en/exhibitions-and-events/at-the-museum/exhibitions/event-details/e/oceanie-38063/
The one major 'seized' item , the crocodile canoe, will not be shown.

V. glad to read your news, Frith - parent and sons. May it continue:-) Glad the JG page is sorted out now. Have had troubles.

A special pleasure was hearing on R4 that Leo Varadkar and his partner, Matt Barrett, will take breakfast together, with Mike Pence, of notably loathesome views:

I’m not sure why but every year when the council tax bill arrives it’s always a shock, being accompanied by final gas and leccy bill also rubs it in, along the lines of it costs you this much just to exist.:o
1 A rapid call in at Aldee for a window seed planter, for 1.99, to save my tomato seeds that decided to rocket off in the airing cupboard, finickicity transplanting achieved only one fatality. I don’t hold up much hope I have never had luck with seeds but you never know the power of positive thinking, I found a few plastic greenhouse type things inherited so have also used them for some other seeds and a rather large amount of hope.:A
2 Washing loads done, 1 animal load, and one clothes load.
3 Really happy with yesterdays sale bargains they will be very useful.:D
4 My new glasses go dark in daylight, horray very useful, I think they are fabulous.:o
5 I’m feeling very frustrated at having to take it so easy, a pleasure being without commitments I don’t need to worry about annoying people.
6 Meal planned for the next few days, today was a hm lasagne from the freezer with salad. But there will be a desert either hot apple pie or doughnuts..:rotfl:
7 Went to Mr T not for RTC’s some very specific bits and bobs, sadly spent enough to use a voucher:(, needed conditioner but had to get it on offer to make it viable but it means getting 3 for a tenner, so mainly on offers and picked up bingham meal with a lot off, although I’ve never known a meal priced so high to start with, but it will be tomorrows lunch for the 2 of us.
8 Starting to think about booking some camping in, I said it out loud and I could see a look of relief on DHs face, apparently he’s desperate to get away but didn’t say anything, nice to be on the same page!:o
9 I complained about something we purchased full price that has a use by of August which is stale, and they are going to sort it out, :)hmm we will see it’s not the end of the world but nice to have not just sat back and said ah well. We rarely purchase anything full price anymore and this was disappointing.

A quick update as it's late now.
Pleasures for today (Thursday).
1) Not a bad sleep
2) Got the final greenhouse pieces and slabs from my sister
3) Hens OK.
4) Bigger son delivered more flyers for his coffee morning.
5) Took bigger son for a driving lesson.
6) Just in from a date with MrA :-)0 -
Good morning. A blustery first walk with the dog but dry after a very wild night.
& your heart must be heavy this morning. I've been in touch with my old school friend who lives in Christchurch and she was still in lockdown though her son's school had just been released from lockdown. Just horrid.
Thursday was fairly productive, got lots done.
Weather was blustery so much washing on line ( just with an extra peg)
Walked all the way down to blooming allotment and still could not open padlock. Asked chap who runs it and he said oh just put the number in and it opens. Eh no it doesn't and I do have the right number, will give it another go today.
Met a friend so had a quick chat.
Made pasta for tea with remnants from fridge. Very yummy.
The niecelys came up and took the baby stuff from the loft. Just the stuff under my bed and the garage now! This means the Christmas decorations can go back in the loft ! Hurrah! Freeing up a cupboard that they've been stuffed into.
Spare room sorted out.
A half bag for a charity collection put out on doorstep.
A day of reflection I suppose. It was 2 years since my husband's funeral. How quickly time ticks along. I just miss him so much. It doesn't really get easier.
Have a good day0 -
Thinking of & and all New Zealander’s, such sad times.
Hugs to Mhags too.
Thursday pleasures,
Hmm, tough today as woke with blocked sinuses so bad head all day, guess first one is a good medicine box with painkillers and eucalyptus oil.
Did get out to the farm shop to pick up meat for the weekend and whilst I was out got a net of carrots for pony, bit of a diversion due to road closed.
A nap on the sofa and woke up to find that small dog had sneaked up and joined me, it was her snoring tha woke me up!
Made a smoked mackerel kedgeree with cauli rice, surprisingly good.
Will bank #5.0 -
Oh &...:(
Hi, been AWOL. Again.
Pleasures for the last WEEK!
Friend came to ICT and a lovely time was had - Portmeirion, Beddgelert, Aberystwyth, Red Kite feeding and Devils Bridge, Centre for Alternative Technology
We mostly didn't get wet :T
Good drives to and fro and around. it was interesting to see it all as a tourist.
Saw my boy for a short time as he was here when I got back
All the signs of spring - lots of daffs, magnolia blossom.
OH's grass is growing.
OH was having a lovely time in India but one of the party has been hospitalised with a broken ankle and a broken foot. OH has stayed with him to organise getting him home. I am gutted for him but proud that he did the right thing. I suspect i'll end up going to India at some point this year to do the things he missed with him.
Washing dried on the line
Have a lovely day allI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
If I start, I'll go on for pages & anyway RL isn't that far away, but o midears! It is just so good to see you here even if some days the pleasures are the gulpful ones of surviving, or the eye opening ones of going to Boots "for his rabies, Japanese Encephalitis and Hepatitis A". It's inspiring! Finding things & recovering space as babies are awaited - excellent news amidst a lot of other stuff. Hurrah Mr.Piano safe back, and boys needing feeding - ohmiword yes. It has been wet even for Manchester, it has has been windy enough to rock cars (ulp!) but all kudos to Raffles, there is still yellow stuff!
OS pleasures recently
Y’know how some cars have faces at the back? Saw a car with the most amazing moustache! Ford ka + zetec on research, somewhere between the V for Vendetta mask & a smiling D!ck Dastardly...
Magpies in pairs galore! I suppose there’ll be secrets of them later...
Son reported “some art program went on about Putin & the Craces”. I hadn’t realised he had succumbed to the current propaganda, not least since Pugin had a hand in the original decor of the House of Commons. (And is thought to have died, raving, of syphilis.)
Discussing forecast wet weather - “you’re not sugar mice” quoth a firm teacher who was fondly recalled, at a safe distance.
There are green bits on fattening cherry blossom buds! Daft how a few seconds scrutiny fills me with anticipatory delight, even in the wind & rain.
Some days just the knowledge that in another 10 minutes you will be hugging your mum is a treat.
There’s a very unhappy baby & an as-badly-stressed parent but I don’t think there’s anyone here grumbling as we were all baffled yelling babies once. As she got off, little one was settled immediately by walking.
I am scolded for leaving the pelleted plant food on the table. Seems the chef has nearly sprinkled it over two dishes. No toxic label but no one keen to test!
Tried to reassure myself my parents are relatively prepared for Brexit & yes they have a 3 month stash of medication. After that, baby sis has gone long on what she regards as European essentials & my parents (who survived the war) are altogether we may have to live without some exotics but we can re-learn to enjoy UK grown produce. As attitudes go, that should help along with a cheerful twinkly eyed thought that the black market will doubtless fill any overt gaps...
The train back from my mindfulness course was cancelled so this one is a beautifully British exercise in queuing & cooperating on an overcrowded train!
Very carefully drove past a dumped flapping tarp, cheerful speculations as to whose body & youngest intoned “Big Issue?” - his sense of humour is black as obsidian, & his timing as sharp.
Oh gods. Sat at mother in law’s, unwillingly eavesdropping as my mother calls to worry about my weight. Whole family listening & laughing (silently), bless 'em.
Boys watching science fiction & someone’s overdone the caffeine “you should try tea” - yes! I want that on a T shirt....
Son's new glasses through & he's happily crooning at things he can now see despite this being the same prescription. [Beware novelty slippers - the pleasure is he heals wonderfully quickly.]
On a day that started bad, breaking down on the M way at a junction, I was surrounded by unexpected kindnesses, from the arboriculturists who shoved the car onto the hard shoulder to the police, traffic & RAC folk, to the garage who got my car fixed that day knowing I needed it. Just wow!
“Can you become a visiting foreign diplomat?” - husband trying to find a council tax loophole... I have not drawn his attention to either death or dementia & am sipping tea, basking in my self discipline.
Son frantically ironing pyjamas for Red Nose Day at sixth form. Whom to approach for photographs, I wonder? [Who better than his little brother also at the same sixth form, and equipped with a phone to snaffle a snap with?]
Just signed up for scout shooting course - have wanted this for years & now signed up for!
Now then, health galore for all as need same, strength as the digging etc requires it, hugs for all who accept same & courage for whenever your own amazing abundant supplies wobble a bit! Onwards - it really can't get Hugely Worse, can it?0 -
Ooops, as I don’t watch this Bolshevik Badcasting Commissariat, I must has missed it was celebratory in Africa day to go and grab a child! Remember that the girl on the checkout puts more of her earnings into this tin pot than the celebratory on holiday does! Avoid!
V Was at the gym this morning just keeping that beach ready look in shape for the Wharf of Fishermen. BoP Tour Live soon!
4 Had the Steak and … Nite last eve. BoPsie had her whine of red and I had wobbleade! Tum was rubbed, tasty and good for you!
3 Now please think of BoPsie today as she has sour grapes in her box for lunch and no cheese. Sjhe also has no biscuits either. Well her salt mine does not provide good things, where as at BoP’s mill we has a biscuit barrel! And I don’t need to tells you that it is full of good things do I! hard cheese to BoPsie!
2 Nite is the Tour of Grand and some wobbleades!
Not having one today!
God so hates the earth he put man on it!0
