    Pleasures for today (Thursday).

    1) A lie in.

    2) Made cheese and bacon muffins (used LO gammon rather than bacon) with tomato soup for lunch. Made a sausage casserole for tea and a tray of brownies!

    3) Hens well and 3 eggs today. Topped up their bedding to keep them warm.

    4) Had a letter from the solicitors so I don't have to go to court about my car. A van hit it while it was parked outside Sainsburys in the summer (I was in Sainsburys at the time) but the man wouldn't accept the blame! But he has now.

    5) Had a phone call from bigger son "just to say hello" as he stayed at his friend's overnight and would be out all day today and overnight (tonight) again. It amuses me greatly that he is out with 2 friends with ridiculously similar names! Bigger son has a fairly unusual very Welsh name (like Idris) and lets pretend his surname is Jones (he also has a Welsh surname!) So his friends are the equivalent of Idris Jonesson and Idris Bones!

    6) My brother took smaller son to the pub to watch a football match on Sky. Took the opportunity to clean the fridge out and steam the floors uninterrupted.

    7) Son came home again and took the chance to do his most favourite activity (joint first with watching his football team play) - a midnight shop. Trundled off to Tesco and he was singing and dancing down the empty aisles. :-D

    8) In bed now with 1hwb.

    1. Back at work. Not at main base so was ok. Long chat with manager after an email I sent. Made her aware of a situation .

    2. Text messages with various friends.

    3. Bus was on time both ways. Read my kindle.

    4. DS2 cooked tea.

    5. His girlfriend came round and had a nice chat.

DH went to collect his Mum's death certificate and her full name wasn't in it and worse the date of death was wrong. I have phoned the doctors this morning and will be getting a phone call back by the doctor at some point but meant to be registering the death early this afternoon.

    Thursday pleasures,

Rough night so pleasure of toast and coffee.

Took small dog for a long walk around the field, just enjoyed being out in the fresh air and stretching my legs out.

    Roasted veg couscous for lunch.

Despite lack of exercise over the last couple of weeks Princess Pony was a very good girl on the lunge, had also run out of her herbal calmer for the past week and apparently she had been very jolly coming in from the field so pleasantly surprised.

Another one who couldn’t face Luther so football went on and I read my book.

    Good Morning,

VL Hope you get the certificate rectified. It is difficult enough......

    1. Sat on the sofa all morning, as I still have a cold. I have been poorly for 5 weeks now, and still feel and look terrible.....sigh. Pleasure was not being at work, and being able to slob about. :o

    2. Gave DS2 a lift to town, and stopped at mr T and M&S on the way back for reductions. :j (This is one of my favourite hobbies).

    3. Made Beef ragu in the slow cooker. DH and I had it as Spahetti Bolognaise last night, and I will make Lasagne with the rest today.

    4. Met up with my friend at Craft Club. Catching up on the gossip while doing a workshop on crocheting a dishcloth. It was freezing!

    5. Watched the second Luther episode with DH when I got home.

Too many things to do today, but feel a bit more motivated!

    Stay warm :)

    Another dry day & freezing

Binge watched the last ever series of The Last Ship - disappointing but the pleasure is I never have to watch another episode :T

Lo Full roast beef dinner - not enough for freezer - but a few slices for a sandwich for DH & a small bit to start a soup.

I finished sorting my wardrobe - now have tidy shoes - but nothing to bin or donate :(

Street lamp not on for 4th night in a row :T but still no stars visible as very cloudy :(

I know I should find lots about no longer in pain etc ,but I just can't ,her children were 7and 5 and they need her .
    I miss her so much
    Sorry
  • Oh my words, I has visions of DD and mHags manning the bilge pumps on the Thomas Crapper!
It is the fourth of January and that credit card bill has come from your christmas past! Payday is still just under four weeks away and they want their cut on the 25th!
Jennys at it again and yous knows why! :heartpuls

V Was inn the smoke yesterday, to meet exiles with BoPsie, so had lunch inn the Admiralty next to big plinth of Nelson! Then wondered past DisMay’s house and back to the Bears’s station. New train sets out west the seats are not very good, but at least it ran this time. BoPsie was happy. Though I cans no believe that inn the boiler room inn my day off in the smoke, we have had infiltrators. Thinks me may sit of fence on this one and watch the wash down on the Thomas Crapper! More later! Should be a bit juicy for some! Minds me of years ago and thirst boss. Rule 17 Section 4. Don’t meet the wife at work! Please be aware that BoPsie does poke her nose around here inn the parish!

4 That leaves around only 74 days until BoP tour hits Fisherman’s Wharf! Viewing recommended. BoP will now trim to his beach ready looks in the next few weaks.

3 Talking of trimming, cusin of BoP is racing this year for True Heroes Racing. They are supporting themselves again this year and all are ex-servicemen. They get no money except what they get in sponsorship. So please ditch the TV Tax and put it to good use instead.

2 Night is a film night with BoPsie. Wobbles of Ade shall be consumed. Thinks it could be a Monroe! I know, but I am not going to change now!

Having one today. Short weak, so lunch box of bits today. Smoked wood of apple cheese, LieSter Red, two tangerines, toms, cucumber, four cakes of Jaffa, and a mince pie. Mince pies were cheap inn the emporium partners and w8rs.

When you make others smile, they are happy, but don’t forget to smile yourself!
  • 1) A fine and sunny day, albeit rather chilly round the edges BUT it's dry!!!

    2) A trip to Morrisons to re stock the cupboards and fridge after the holidays brought many bargains, Instant 1 minute cook polenta for 70p, cous cous for 55p, lentils and green split peas too so happy looking at the cupboards now.

    3) DD1 and James turned up out of the blue yesterday which was lovely and they bought me a lovely bunch of flowers which was really appreciated.

    4) Came back from shopping rather later than planned and was able to turn out a hot 'scratch meal' from the fridge and some veggie burgers from the freezer, was yummy!

    5) Got another 2 x iced and marzipanned Christmas Cakes for £1.99 each in Aldi, they keep until 2020, what's not to like?

    Sorry

So so sorry for you, Sue. The pleasure is that this day will pass and you will get through it. That is enough. Thinking of you.

Mrs LW - I have a couple of those cakes too but cut up and frozen. i am sure they would last beyond 2020 in any case.

    Pleasures for yesterday

    1. Easy driving to big railway station and found a parking space. Train was busy but we got a good seat, eventually.
    2. Made the decision that i need to buy a new laptop, marking will pay for it. And marking was finished
    3. had salad for lunch - felt virtuous :rotfl: DD and i ate dinner in a restaurant near Victoria and i had a veggie shepherd's pie. i try for 2 - 3 no meat days a week and have already done 3 :T (though i did have fish on one day)
    4. Between lunch and dinner I went and did good work in the british library. DD went to a show
    5. DD and i then went to Hamilton. I don't really have the words to describe it. it was incredible, amazing, brilliant, and so so moving. It definitely lives up to its hype - i'd go again today if i could.

Got in at 2 so have only had about 5 hours sleep, this is much less than i am used to so a bit blurry. have a good day all - I am off to Tenerifeeeeeee tomorrow.
I wanna be in the room where it happens

Happy New Year, All! (forgive the extended absence but some forms of RL are even more intrusive than others)

mhagster - some days I yearn for a shower (Must Get It Fixed) & just have to have a quick bath. Won't see son for several months - (a) hoard the food savings & (b) you *may* enjoy it at times. Friends who "just pop in" should set themselves a timer, or at the very least cosset you fully! May all your thermals be effective. A proper NYD steak pie - atta girl! Then hand to hand with someone else's plumbing... The bag trick worked?! Round of applause! GN misconduct? Shock.
purple kitten - love a "very purple very me" diary! "A quick clean turned into a full on vax, twice" - you too? Oh Thank Heavens - I was feeling Got At by the Fates. If your spreadsheet does not reassure and comfort you, tweak it a bit? Fear and loathing do not help good accounting. Hoping all going well.
Frith - Eleanor in 12 hours? Awed! Middleson a huge fan of beans on toast not least as he eats them lukewarm. Within reason, I am no longer fussed what number the Star Wars is, so long as I am allowed to watch it all! Son cooking for NYE? 3 hours - Awed! Congratulations of football win! First geocache of the year? Your lads are Wonderful. They cook & their vices are largely intelligent ones, like a midnight shop!
house elf - Tudors? They are loads of fun! QE1 got scolded by Parliament for having a bath once a year whether she needed it or not, as they thought the "evil humours" were more dangerous than the Catholics & besides she had no heir... What superb timing at Lidl! Drat the cold though. Hurrah a good fire & also planning for return to school. So much better to plan than be startled... (I haul the lads to the dentists every Valentines Day - so long as they're open - easy to sort & remember!) Oh yes Blenheim keeps its secrets! Crafting in the cold strikes me as being less fun than it could be?
LaineyT - very glad to hear robust policy of fluids & bed for UTI - then antibiotics (Yowch!) -good to hear now getting better. Well enough to manage a bacon buttie - almost fully recovered then! Isn't it wonderful how petrol has gone down for a change for a while?! Herbal calmer, eh? Almost certainly equine specific, or the drama lama owner would have been dosed.
VJsmum - ah sons. Still, laudable targeting & hope he gets his jacket & keys back. Roast pork & all the trimmings is a delight & followed by a just landed french apple tart?! Superb! Even the best friends can have off days - hope both have recovered. All strength with PhD & wow, starlit bike ride! Even if "Dad made us do it", it's still a delight to come home to!
BoP - there's something about a good curry, isn't there? Raffles, I hope you are feeling less got at soon & can get back onto the yellow stuff. Feel free to taunt the Denbyholic, just count how soon the new stuff starts to show wear. Buzzard and Ostrich - there's the stuff to see the laundry drying. Cask or bottle? Eh, does the heart good to hear the Wobble of Ade...
DundeeDoll - bless you I had Clean Forgotten the Crow (now on to do list before decorations come down) Much smitten with your new sig. Enchanted by winning ways with plastic bag, just baffled as to How (not an engineer at all!) Grinning at sending DD2 home with tupperware as freezer full. Also at christmas panda onesie.
topsyturphy - you never Have to do things on this thread - look at how erratic some of us post (ahem) well done on both dog walk and training run! Playing music loud in the car is definitely a pleasure!
ampersand - argh the evil mobile and may all images, notes etc be restored unto you. Rousing cheers that M-E has rightly seen off the malin that was infesting thumb. Proper real hm pates, too with du vrai beure. Yum! Fantailed prawns from the emporium after a thoroughly seen in New Year - yum! Is it kind to post footage of Southern Rail's annual staff party thus?!
Suffolksue - may your New Year please include someone to go on a booze cruise and chortle with. Keep an eye out for angels unawares? Hurrah the roasting joint & of course the SW plan counts though other pleasures are available. Could you lead a U3A monthly wine group field trip? Thinking of you, your daughter & the children.
plumduff55 - ironing hung out?! Truly the seasons are out of whack! May 2019 work out a lot better for you. The stars in the night sky are a very special pleasure. That said, so is a Tunnocks teacake with a birthday cuppa. Steady on the pins, I've been advocating knitting as therapeutic & to hear you "furiously knitting" seems wrong somewhere!
MrsSD when is your lovely neighbour taking you for a spin in said Jag XT? (Reciprocate - stick on back of bike...) Three months worth of birthday cards - brilliant use of quiet time! Cloudy here too - my hopes of shooting stars gone for a burton.
Hopeless Case - they keep letting me back in... Garden centre vouchers turned into pots? Monty Don would so approve! Lending Mr SD & his hedge clipper - there, so many people happy with one kindly thought!
amber03 - well done deleting sundry apps - inspirational & decluttering too! (I have a tip run of Just Rubbish awaiting me.) Asynch leave - well done! with "chocolate without being mithered" - So Right.
villagelife - may all the paperwork happen on time, and well done getting away until it could start. All strength with the path ahead & big hugs. The first bit of paper is wrong - may that be the only hiccup.
Skint yet Again - hullo midear! Happy New Year to you, too & well done getting through the first Christmas.
MandM90 - every good party needs plenty of the soft stuff, if only to keep the determined swigging happily at your third bottle of chateau beetroot juice. Well done DD cooking!
MrsLurcherwalker - may your hollies root & berry & your dentist be swift & effective.

    OS pleasures recently
Rewatching Skyfall "orphans always make the best recruits" I adore Judi Dench. Deadpan, solid steel, principled.

My chaps may blink at the heap of empties, but to leave a bottle of wine to oxidise seems discourteous. (I Do Try to uphold the courtesies.) Even Jerome K J acknowledged thirst is a terrible thing...

I do love lebkuchen at Christmas. My waistline disapproves of that enthusiasm when the remaining supplies are reduced by the shops, but some temptations should be given into?!

Son’s bright-eyed expression as he realises the six red apples were bought with an eye on his fruit intake.

Oooh! Tesco still have a contract with Orla K so even though she’s gone bust there are designer bags for my kinswomen. Phew!

Stopped in Aldi for noodles (as you do), and picked up the three internally lit little buildings (pub, church, house) all reduced to £3 each. Patience rewarded!

Misplaced my glasses. Yelled for help, as stepping on them is both expensive & painful, & got a derisive “Try On Your Head!”. Ah. Yes. Oh good.... <blush>

“There’s only one left, you greedy...” laughter back at offspring snaffler-in-chief of delights for sharing with everyone.

More digitising of family photo albums. Happily past my childhood & getting into young parenthood - aww the hulking great louts were cute!

Aw. Youngest has not only hugged me but made me a cup of tea. I must rewrite my Will...

Yet more photographing family photographs. Both extremely boring and wholly rewarding, but least as some future study will know I have not curated a single shot. Everything m’lady mother archived is here, including the shots I’d edit out myself. That’s why I’m doing it. I trust myself to produce a complete record, not a diluted perspective. Change of software & I could learn to love Snapseed for image manipulation!

Sweet irony of life, we have a former biscuit tin in a bus shape that hold the 1;12000 fleet of tiny spaceships... So we have a bus full of spaceships. Happy new year, all!

Sorting photos while listening to Neil Gaiman with ‘Great Pleasure At Christmas’. Hearing Peter Capaldi reading Dickens & John Finneman just-not-chortling through A.A.Milne’s stage directions. My rate of file renaming has dropped like a brick, but I am gurgling with laughter. [Ah. Over 309 files wrong & I can’t batch correct them. Dash.]

Limerick season has broken out with the fb gang. Honestly season, reason, treason & weasl’n all cheerfully in play.

Thankyou letters are being written (the bentwood chair, whip, & pistol remain nearby but are not currently in play) and although the layout & handwriting still need work (after over a decade of routine practice!) the whining is not presently part of the procedure. (Other than mine.)

In this house, when pans clatter, we jump. I hurtled gown two storeys, cleared some junk on the floor, burst into the kitchen to find Himself absolutely fine & mildly amused. The junk turned out to be saucepan lids that had escaped... It is a pleasure to know my hearing isn’t that vintage, that I can still shift & Himself is gratified I care.

Awww! Percy pig bags for life at M&S, so even though fruit patterned bags were available, I got Percies...

Chinese wholesaler - all sorts of merry mischief laid in, and the lobsters gawked at happily.

Whipped out a folded bag for life & a charming customer asked me how had I done that - so I shook it fully open, then showed her how I folded it to an orderly flat package held shut by its own handle. We grinned that it is So Much Easier to carry a bag that sits folded flat in a pocket til wanted. (Not quite Kondo samosa fold, all more square, but folding in the middle of the handle so it can be looped back & holds the bag shut.)

Reading money tips aloud "Glasgow to Faro £15 return" - son curious as to where is Faro & anyway what kind of plane as he doesn’t want to fall out if the sky!

Swapped in new keyboard where you can read every letter! Discovered three kindle charging cables, shortly after new one arrived from eBay. (*Always* tidy up first..) Managed to disconnect mouse in process. Really, I should have gone full New Year on it, worn safety footwear, shifted furniture, filled at least one bin & finished with a restorative sauna whilst awaiting the groin strain to fade, but there’s hindsight for you. [Thank the kindly gods for Tea.]

Invited to join South London Warlords - happily in a miniature model context. Commodore’s new fleet (of 1:12000 spaceships) has arrived & little packets of metal are being crooned over. Has freebies of replenishment ship, escort ship & torpedo ship too!

Online job app test ‘missing’ - called as tech support, when lad muttered “Ah. Didn’t scroll down”... Later followed by “how do you work out percentages?” - he’d figured it by the time I got there. If he gets this, I think his business will have a lot of fun.

Got chucked out of gym! Well, fire alarm going off, so son & I hit the emergency stop buttons, advised security gym now empty, rugged up & put several hundred yards between us & the site.

Right, along with all the very best wishes for a Happy New Year (now, and a happy New Year of the Boar as of Feb 5), may you enjoy health, strength, warm underclothing, robust waterproofing, good spreadsheets, superlative plumbing, calm administration & scheme to enjoy the epitaph "they lived well!"
'Tis the season to remember our absent friends as well, may they watch over us & cheer us on.
