Seizing a moment before required To Do Things to vegetables. Wishing Everyone a Merry Christmas!
OS Pleasures recently & so far
Some thoughtful child has set the TV to blasting out Kerrang as we tidy up. Potent stuff. The young have not only recycled all their glass bottles, they have layered innocuous stuff on top! That's Advanced Concealing of the Evidence as well as admirably Eco-savvy.
The Christmas spirit has arrived - "I should have got a smaller truncheon, mine's too big to use indoors"....
Oh gods, lads debating the merits of Schwarzenegger as President - I did mention the "not born in the US" bit, but they (not unreasonably) pointed out that Trump got in, so Merit Clearly isn't required....
Ah. Family have bought into the "coke in glass bottles for Christmas" marketing. Still, they're happy so shall just enjoy the moment & avert thoughts of budget.
Lad struggling to describe profiterole cake, "well it's frozen, so a high end pudding" and sure enough there's an almost midnight feast...
Oh my word. Mindful of that chart of so many minutes walk to exercise off a mince pie etc, I think I need to start walking now & quit after Boxing Day. It would be simpler. Vegetarianism suddenly seems *almost* reasonable. [Well, maybe later. Maybe.]
Quantities of veg bought. The intention is to make a socking great tankful of green veg soup on Boxing Day to atone for the Dear Gods Did We Eat All That....
There is a pleasure sure in stuffing stockings. Fond thoughts directed towards sibing who gave me several pairs of scarlet rugby socks, seasonal abuse for the use of. Comradely grins with youngest who has helped me chose much of the contents...
Interesting to see graves with Christmas decorations & on balance the loveliest were the wholly natural ones, berries & variegated leaves. The baubles looked garish, somehow.
Cold pizza is actually a rather nice start to Christmas Day as it has the joy of familiarity with no effort. Plus it can be eaten whenever you wake up, rather than hoping others are awake & peckish too.
BBC Newsreader in dinner jacket etc & bow tie - family suspect this is either a bet or a gesture towards Reithian values.
Started a 3D dinosaur model, (having given one to each son) & gave it to eldest at step 3 as it was getting beyond me. [The ongoing screams are not wholly of triumph.] The T Rex is walking! Memories of primordial sludge have us cheering & cowering and generally celebrating the miracle of Christmas. And now a stegosaurus proudly wheezes under clockwork power across the impenetrable veld of the carpet! [How was I to know they'd be the sleeper hit?!]
Son has given me a Porsche. Suited to my height & perceived age, it is a Playmobil one....
Wishing everyone a Very happy day today & in the coming days!0 -
Good evening, just had dinner and just sat down. We are going to attempt pudding in half an hour.
A funny old day when you're less of a family than you were.
Wide awake through night then managed to snooze again. Woke at 7.50am which is very late for me but even later for the dog.
Nice gifts.
The niecely people came over. Rolls and sausage for brunch. My son collected my mother. She may have moaned. I don't have much tolerance for it.
Nice chats with sister and friend and friends daughter.
Wishing our dog friend a happy birthday. Haggis was very pleased to see her.
Being glad when everyone went away. Having a snoozette. Woke at 4pm.
We had chicken breast wrapped in soft cheese and pancetta. Gammon. Roast potatoes, honey roasted parsnips, carrots and sprouts. A friend had made us cranberry sauce so that was nice too.
Pudding is pavlovas and peaches.
Been mild and damp today after a very heavy frost yesterday.

Pleasures for today (Christmas day).
1) Good to be up after 3 hours sleep. And to have a 20 minute accidental nap on the sofa this afternoon!
2) Hens well. Bigger son drove us down to feed them (its about 15 mins each way to walk) and the roads were so quiet he had an unexpected driving lesson through a couple of villages afterwards.
3) Parents and brother came round for a cup of tea and a bagel.
4) Christmas stocking presents were fairly well received - the most popular being bigger son's Take Away Secret cookbook.
5) Lunch was OK - a turkey leg, roast pots, parsnips, carrots, peas, stuffing, gravy, bread sauce and pigs in blankets. And Yorkshire puddings. Had a few hours gap before Christmas pudding.
6) Had a few games of poker with bigger son who had received a new poker set from my brother.
7) My school friend appeared unexpectedly - while I was asleep! So nice to see her and have a cup of tea.
8) Smaller son much better today though would not get out of bed to see my family or school friend. He did accept guests into his room. While we were out watching bigger son doing wheelies on his bike, I suddenly noticed he has grown (I actually looked down to see if I was standing in a hole). He has been 5 foot 7 like me for months - including November. Measured him and he's now 5 foot 10.5 - no wonder his legs ache and he's always asleep!
Vaguely planning tomorrow which includes a trip to Hereford to watch our team play them at football. Smaller son now has the scarf, gloves, enamel pin and calendar.0 -
no train for bop but a porsche for dfv you win some you lose some bop
1) lovely midnight mass with the new bishop. he joined us end of august so maybe time to drop the 'new'
2) slight change to our normal timetable as ds spending christmas day with gf and her mum (her dad sadly died this year so i told ds we would fit our day around theirs)
3) went to morning mass and didn't need to rush back due to 2).
4) then home and a long walk with the dogs, again due to 2)
5) lunch was nice and easy - salad, mini pizzas, spring rolls, garlic mushrooms and breaded jalapenos
6) full turkey dinner at 7 with cranberry and mushroom bake for dd1 who is veggie
7) then a game of dixit and a game of ticket to ride
so i think all in all our new schedule worked very well. lots of left-overs for tomorrow nom nomMrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

Beautiful full moon
Not too many rainy days :T
Stuck to my menu plan
DH did the last of the Christmas food shopping - he is soooo lovely
No kitchen disasters, DH prepped all the vegetables except the potatoes which I had prepped Christmas Eve, I LOVE my warming drawer & Christmas dinner was scrummy even the sprouts (which were cooked with lardons, chestnuts & a drizzle of honey).
Only los are from Christmas dinner - so plenty for bubble & squeak on Thursday as we are at my in-laws on Wednesday.
Champagne with Christmas dinner
Lovely presents from DSis

Christmas Day
1. Sons liked their stocking presents and both wore their new sweatshirts to Xmas meal.
2. Opened parcel from DD and the room transformed into an Indian Bazaar. (She has not received hers yet).
3. Finished veg prep and and starter with the help of DH and arrived at friends house only a bit late.
4. Meal lasted from 2:30 to 8pm when were we're having coffee. Courses interspersed with board games.
5. Home to Call the Midwife.
I like to have a DIY project to work on between Christmas and New Year, but may be EBay this year....DH, DS1 and DS2 have all had head phones, so I will have no one to talk to. :rotfl:
Have a lovely day0 -
Christmas Day pleasures,
Woke up to white and sparkly world due to a heavy frost, very festive.
Just me, Capt S and small dog but was a perfect day, most of my presents could either be read, drunk or set light to, perfick. As always little dog enjoyed ripping the paper up more than anything else.
We talked about childhood memories of Christmas past and toasted our loved ones.
Food was tasty, might have had a glass or two and chocolate was involved as well
Enjoyed the festive edition of Upstart Crow.0 -
