5 OS pleasures in your day today - part 3

ampersand on ne peut pas envoyer pm, Encore. Em demain?
Ollie - ham stock was a massive treat of my childhood & mum found she could get us to eat almost anything green so long as it was made into soup with ham stock!
Hopeless Case - absolutely right to avoid some books. Can I suggest Pride & Prejudice as a read so that everyone has a warm safe place to retreat to as the festive season winds up?!
DundeeDoll - chortling at "fish and chips in for tea on his way back from the gym" - well, positive reinforcement always helps
BoP - wrap your beloved up warm - she's unique & you know it!
plumduff - a masterpiece of pottering - I must try harder!
mhagster - birthdays can be trying times & I suspect some of these gifts are not once a year things either, but well done DD2 & hurrah shopping around for car insurance!
Frith - you've started picking up stocking filler things too? Oh Good - son gave me Such A Look....
LaineyT - proper planning means you have a better chance of getting through with your humour & finances intact & hurrah smart girlie learning.
Yesterdays OS pleasures
Discussing risks to flour
"Spinach"
"Eh?"
"I said spoilage!"
Ah...
"Bring down the computer desk of dubiousness!" - as we don't know if it'll fit. The bed did... Not this trip with the chest of drawers - maybe the chair? Oh gods - why are landlord & I lugging furniture while lad lugs clothes?! [And today Owch. Ah well.]
Brother has given 6' stuffed toy sloth to moving-out brother, who has named it Salvador & is both grumbling about the humiliation & how he's glad of a stuffed toy. (I have of course arranged a few photos with a keyboard & bottle of IrnBru suggesting "comfortably moved in"...) while the flat pack awaits.
I feel adopted by the community of women cleaning the flat & the landlord's wife. They were happily gathered chatting & mopping as I lugged furniture & they led me astray with coffee. They were discussing cleaning products (bleach & stardrops) as I heaved one end of a Billy bookcase, and as I wheezed down for the next load I had a brew pressed into one hand & was told to take a moment in tones a strict nanny might employ effectively on her tears-before-bedtime charges.
I know, not mince pie season yet, but I was seduced to try salted caramel mince pies. Frankly not quite as fun as the traditional article, even out of season, but novel.
Ergh. Hefting furniture & eating mince pies has led to a politely worded warning from my knees. Ah well, I was meaning to take up green leaf soup for a bit. Health, strength, love, courage and swift thorough professionals wherever needed!0 -

Just back from a lovely short break, the weather held out which has too be pleasures 1-5.
6 Beaulieu was amazing, we spent so long enjoying the motor museum and touring the house that we had to take advantage of the free second day to check out the ride on monorail, ride on bus, amazing gardens and the mill pond walk, which was enchanting.:T
7 We could walk directly from the campsite to long new forest walks and we did every day.
8 Nice to be away, lovely to be home.
9 I ordered something online from JL which was perfect for DH for a Christmas gift, and they sent me a wonderful offer on it, I literally couldn’t say no, and the delivery was incredibly fast, thank goodness for wonderful neighbours.
10 Just ordered in, watching a Christmas movie and plan on watching pirates of the Caribbean.:)0 -
Hi, I've had such a nice day that I'm not sure that five pleasures will be enough
1) Got up early and prepared main course, veg and pudding for dinner at 4 - you can never be too organised :rotfl:
2) Had washing out on the line by 9.
3) Flying visit from ds1 who lives over 400 miles away and had been kayaking in Skye before flying to Poland tomorrow.
4) DS, myself and Mum went out for a drive and crossed over the Queensferry Crossing Bridge that was opened on mum's 86th birthday last year. Took lots of photos of the bridges over the Forth.
5) While dinner was in the oven Mum watched "Brooklyn" - thanks to House elf for giving me the idea.
6) Had a lovely dinner and all plates were practically licked clean
7) Son went out after dinner and his car broke down so he has borrowed my car to get to the airport tomorrow and I will get it back on Friday. Not sure this is a pleasure
8) Payback time for son 😉 - I got him to swap over double bed mattresses from spare bed and my bed. I watched a programme last week saying mattresses should be changed every 8 years. Shocked to realise mines' was 23 years old so I slept in the spare bedroom twice and had a much better sleep. Looking forward to sleeping in my ' NEW ' bed tonight.
9) Watching Strictly now and looking forward to the the Little Drummer Girl at nine.
Today was really special xxDebt free - Mortgage free - Work free ( in that order)

1) Started today with a paper review which should have been in by Friday. Submitted before church yay (and just noticed they sent a week's extension on Saturday :rotfl:)
2) eco lunch after church. i did rice salad - gluten free, suitable for vegans. Thought i'd been very careful to be allergy-free but noticed dressing had MUSTARD in list of ingredients so dutifully put warning on label. was lish
3) then back to mum's to read out loud my paper i've been writing. it now stands at 6101 words and sounds pretty good if i say so myself. some areas still not finished but have definitely broken the back
4) she gave me a lift home and some bolognese out of her freezer which she is desperate to defrost.
5) cleaned my bedroom and en suite. now lying on my bed thinking hmm need to pack. off to Oban tomorrow till Wednesday :jMrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

5) Just watched Celebrity Hunted with bigger son.0 -
Ollie - no ODD here but a lovely side order of PDA........
. Nathan (17) has very, very few friends and those he has are 'similar to himself' - and young Billy (the one who was taken to the GP last week) has hardly any friends either - he seems to 'over-react' to almost everything and other kids just steer clear of him altogether - quite heart-breaking
.
house elf .............. Ollie My Dad Used to make a big pan of soup on a saturday night, using the broth from the ham hock. We would have it when Mum and Dad got back from the pub.DigForVictory ........... Ollie - ham stock was a massive treat of my childhood & mum found she could get us to eat almost anything green so long as it was made into soup with ham stock!. Whenever I had them staying over as babies after weaning, they were all fed with my HM Soups/Stews etc. I don't use extra salt in any of my cooking (personal choice due to Raised BP) and always aim for 'Low Salt Stock Cubes whenever possible, so it was all quite suitable for very young 'weaners'
.
Those two shanks cost £4 - got 4 x 1kg tubs of Shank Scouse out of them / the batch of Yellow Pea&Ham Soup / and two well-stuffed rounds of sandwiches out of them.
Added cost of some veggies (potatoes, carrots, half swede from fridge, 1 leek, 3 onions, 6 sticks of celery) PLUS a pack of Yellow Split Peas, but excellent vfm :j!0 -
My working week is finished ! Hurrah! My Friday feeling on a Sunday.
Had a very productive day.
Was a beautiful day after a yukky one yesterday. Three loads out on line. Almost dried, ironed & on clothes horses.
Between us son & I cleaned the new doors/windows. I scrubbed with soapy water & he hosed ( from my new outdoor hot tap)
Continuing the tidying of the garden.
Obviously a day for pumpkin soup. Made pumpkin & ginger soup & it was lovely. Accompanied by home made rolls ( been ages since I made bread ) and some twinx.
Work was great. Glad to finish though. The weather makes such a difference.
